This will be informal but basically, Terence possesses the constant, subconscious desire to be pitied. It stems from the fact that, when Daniel left him in his childhood, he never felt as though he received validation in his anger and humiliation at being abandoned - he never felt as though anyone around him could properly understand the cruel thing his brother had done. As an adult, he primarily holds this against his father, but his undying need to share stories about how shitty Daniel was as a person stems from his belief that if he could make people truly understand the kind of person Daniel was, their indignation would prove him right and his father wrong. However, more than that, there is a part of him desperate for sheer, nurturing sympathy, hence the reason his favorite doll is Sonia, who canonically asks him, during her introduction, if he’s lonely and wants to talk to her.
