the kids are calling them "stone fruits." they start off small—think cherries. then they're hooked and they need a quick fix, they get peaches, maybe some nectarines. it's all they can think about. before you know it, they're trying the really hard stuff—apricots, plums. once they taste a mango there's no going back.

That thing is straight-up a BUG
Why do you have this thing
Grace falls asleep on his biodome beach and learns that the Eridian scientists who made his false sun replicated Sol a little too well because he woke up with a sunburn.
Rocky is concerned. Grace’s skin is the wrong texture and temperature, question? What happened? Is Grace sick???
And Grace has to go, “no I was just dumb, it’s just a sunburn.”
“Sun burned Grace, question? How??”
“Yeah, sort of. I mean, it’s not the same as a burn exactly, it’s…”
And then he has to pause and say, “Okay. Rocky. I will explain to you what a sunburn is and what causes it. But first I want to promise you that I am okay and I am not going to die, and you have to promise not to freak out.”

The urban fantasy show I actually want to see is a hospital drama with a dedicated wing for supernatural illnesses.
Vampirism. Lycanthropy. Cheap spells gone wrong. A woman brought in for her prenatal has to be told her baby is a lindworm. Someone is literally being followed by the anthropomorphic personification of the Black Death.
Someone somewhere out there is having their perception of the world irreparably shattered by the knowledge that magic is real, and at the other side is a team of doctors who have to roll their eyes and pull out Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tales because some high school kid tried to go Carrie with a cheap spellbook and turn all the kids at prom into frogs, and the doctors have to wrangle a couple dozen teenagers into admitting if they have a true love who can break the spell.
I want the hospital director to be some dark entity that feeds on human misery but figured out that if you successfully treat the source of the misery then instead of hunting you down as an abomination the humans start bringing more miserable people to your house en masse and things kinda got out of hand from there.

this site is actually insane and so amazing for anyone who reads historical cnovels and wants to understand historical context
you can find things like: * this map of chang'an when it was the capital of the tang dynasty
or * this reference on the various measurements and units, their conversions to more widely known western units, and their regional/dynastic variations or * this list of sayings related to marriage
etc etc etc
Self-managed abortion (SMA) with pills is very medically safe and effective throughout early pregnancy, but there is a significant risk of criminalization in many U.S. states. While it is impossible to fully eliminate the risk of criminalization when having or planning to have an abortion at home, t
Leave no online footprint of searches or purchases. Digital Defense Fund’s abortion privacy guide is your go-to resource for this. Using private browsers, two-factor authentication, encrypted messaging, strong passwords, etc. is critical. Google searches have been presented as evidence in an SMA trial before. Do not leave a digital trail.
Use the medications properly to prevent interactions with healthcare providers. The pills are very effective, but they have to be used right. Carefully follow the instructions provided on the How to Use Abortion Pill website. Note that misoprostol tablets should always be taken by dissolving them under the tongue. Do NOT insert misoprostol vaginally if you are self-managing an abortion. While this is medically safe, it can leave incriminating pill remnants that can be detected in the vagina during a pelvic exam if you end up needing to seek medical care.
If it’s not an emergency but you need expert health advice, use a free calling service like Google Voice to call or text the Miscarriage + Abortion Hotline at 1-833-246-2632. Medical complications are very uncommon with abortion pills, but they’re not impossible. The M+A Hotline is safe to use and is staffed by trustworthy clinicians who volunteer their time to help those who choose SMA. Do not use your own phone number to call as this will create a record that is visible to your cell service provider.
Don’t disclose any information about SMA to emergency room staff if you do need to seek medical care. This is how most people who are arrested for SMA are reported. Healthcare providers are almost always who calls the police in cases of SMA criminalization. Contrary to popular belief, HIPAA does not protect your private health information from being shared with police if you are suspected of doing something that could be considered a crime. If you believe you need to seek urgent medical care, do not hesitate to go. Say “I think I’m having a miscarriage” and provide your symptoms. Do not mention any use of or purchase of abortion pills. There is no widely available test to detect misoprostol in your bloodstream. If you do not disclose it, there is no way for a medical provider to tell the difference between a medication abortion and a spontaneous miscarriage.
Do not talk to the cops. Period. Do. Not. Talk. To. The. Cops. If you are questioned by police you should state, “I am exercising my right to remain silent, and I wish to speak with an attorney.” Do not speak again or nod in response to a question. Contact the Repro Legal Helpline as soon as possible for expert legal advice: 1-844-868-2812. Do not agree to questioning or speak to any law enforcement official without a lawyer present.

boring take from real 21st century idiots: bdsm is bad because it's basically torture
interesting take from a fictional 14th century monk: torture is bad because it's basically sex
Shoutout to the nun who had other nuns tie her up and pour hot wax on her as she confessed her sins
I'm sure that's true, but something tells me googling "nun tied up by other nuns" "hot wax" "confessing sins" will likely get what you might call rather un-academic results
MLK was a star trek fan
I just wanna add that the real reason most photos of people and events like this were in black-and-white when color film existed and was relatively available (less so for Anne Frank tho, that WAS actually time period but more war scarcity) was newspapers and TV stations.
The Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam War were happening at the same time. And yet, almost all the video of Vietnam is high-quality 16mm and the photos are all Kodachrome color, while Civil Rights Movement coverage is all black-n-white newspaper photos and really bad b&w 8mm video.
Simple answer to the videos is that national news, when covering domestic events, used footage from whatever local network affiliate was there, and TV broadcasts were seldom ever archived on anything but the cheapest medium - 8mm Telecine film. Yes, they had VTR recorders like the Ampex 2" Quad system, but those tapes always got reused, so the only copies surviving before 1978 when VHS because A Thing are all on shitty cheap filmstock. Meanwhile, stuff shot half a world away in rough environments HAD to be done on film, and of course the military press corps wanted QUALITY video footage for propaganda even if it mostly ended up being antiwar cause draftees didn't give a fuck.
And for still photos, that's a REAL simple answer: newspaper photographers shot black-and-white because their MEDIUM was black-and-white. No point shooting color film that costs more, has worse grain resolution, and is slow and finnicky to develop when it's gonna be printed in greyscale anyway. This went on even into the 2000s. And even if it WAS a color photo for the Sunday Color paper, it isn't ARCHIVED on paper, it's in the microfilm/microfiche library in black and white with the rest of the newspapers. But personal photos? Those were done in color since pretty much as soon as it was cheap to do so.

the way ozempic has finally made the fact that eating healthy and exercising doesn't necessarily make you thin well known and society's reaction to this is not "oh i guess being thin or fat doesn't actually show if you're healthy" but "oh i guess everyone should be on this drug"
I hate that this is infact how ozempic is viewed now because I watched, in real time, how my mothers diabetes got significantly better on ozempic, she didn't start it for weight loss, infact she started it before it even got big for weight loss, but all people can talk about is the weight loss on ozempic and not how good it is as a diabetes medication. Watching my mom find energy and happiness because for once a drug wasn't making her lethargic and miserable was wonderful, she was able to feel better, but then it was spouted as this miracle weight loss drug, and suddenly she just couldn't access it anymore at a good price. Not only has the ozempidemic made fatphobia normal in an already fatphobic society but it's making it harder to access for people who genuinely need it because it's seen as a luxury cosmetic drug.

Im thinking about Luo Binghe and rivers. Like, We can look at this one two levels. PIDW and SVSSS.
For Bing-ge his name is the river and time he was abandoned on. Thrown away by parents who didn't want him, only to survive and live a miserable life watching the only person who ever loved him wasting away.
Then he has his teacher, Shen Qingqiu/Jiu. My basic searching skills say that 沈 means 'to sink' which is horrifying tragic in the context of PIDW. For Shen Jiu it could be a warning, that he would sink further and further until it killed him. If you go with his relationship with Bing-ge then its mockery. A threat that Shen Jiu would do what the river didn't, sink him, drown him. Or at least make him with it had.
Even after becoming Emperor and combining the realms, he never gets a new name. No cool breaking away from his origins to something more. He's still Luo Binghe, the cold river he was thrown away to.
(I can't remember but I think the Luo river was one of the landmarks that stuck around after the merge. If so that's kinda poetic.)
Meanwhile by the end of SVSSS:
They're in the Luo river. After all that Luo Binghe is floating down the fucking Luo River again. This time with Shen Yuan and the truth that, he wasn't thrown away. He was sent down that river by a dying woman who loved him so much that it cost her everything. He wasn't someone's trash, he was someone's son. He has his jade guanyin, the symbol of the mother who raised him. She didn't just passively fade away, she worked hard and she wanted good for Luo Binghe. The washer woman named him Luo Binghe, not to remind him of being sent away, but as a celebration of how they came into each other’s lives.
If Shen really does mean 'to sink' then in this life its to sink into each other. To be held tightly and cared for. Its the good kind of drowning, the kind you want after your skins been scorched by the sun and your bones ache from carring the weight for to long.
Luo Binghe having his name at the end of Scum Villain doesn't feel bad. Maybe because Shizun loves all of Binghe, even the parts Luo Binghe isn't able to.
