talesnboneā:
scrunching her nose at Georgeās obvious discomfort. made something in her snarl quietly. it wasnāt right for people to force someone to wear anything they didnāt wish to. now, Sabine wasnāt sure if her friend had actually voiced their concerns, but she was certain they didnāt look comfortable and anyone with something even close to a brain would have noticed. so, instead of focusing on the first response she received, she focused on the next ones.Ā ānothing to forgive. i should have known the cooking here would have made us all irritable.ā she winked knowing full well that it wouldnāt have just been the cooking. but they would act like it was.Ā
her smile, instinctively, grew to mirror her companionās. it wasnāt a very common thing to see in the world from the other shadow born. so, Sabine didnāt totally care why she was getting a genuine smile. so rare that to her, it didnāt matter. a joke was on the tip of her tongue. something light. something to make the other laugh until she heard them struggle with trying to figure out how to not make it seem like the dress they were wearing was terrible. which⦠yeah.Ā āwell, i mean,ā looking down at herself, Sabine titled her head before laughing softly.Ā āi like the color orange. makes me think of sunshine, which is definitely incredible.ā she defended the dress slightly. yeah, she wasnāt totally a fan of it but she did like the color.Ā
looking back up at beautiful brown eyes she thought over Georgeās question. she imagined they would get tired of using them as dolls at some point. maybe they would turn their attention to something else. but instinct told her she would rather deal with the being dressed up then a lot of their other attention.Ā ā hopefully soon. if not, we canā¦. acquire ⦠you some. worst case, you can wear them under the dresses if you donāt wanna fight for no dress at all.ā she nodded along to her words. her father and eomma wouldnāt judge her for helping George feel more comfortable.Ā
āi bet we could convince a fellow shadow born to part with some. i mean, Hook barely wears trousers. iām sure he wouldnāt notice a pair missing.āĀ

"itās bright,ā george acknowledged as they looked again to the dress, but then their unspoken thoughts amended their words, too bright. everything was to them now. they werenāt sure they would ever grow accustomed to the brightness of auradon, the way everything demanded their attention, everything demanded every sense of theirs. too bright, too loud, tooā āfitting for you, iād say,ā they said with a shrug and took again to fiddling with the skirt of their dress, shoulders hunching just slightly in a way that made george appear small, smaller than they were. if they could be so small, then perhaps no one would deign to look at them in such an unsavory get-up.Ā
āiāve heard of what hook does when heās out of those trousers,ā george said, nose scrunching now in a show of disgust,Ā āiād sooner toss myself onto a mountain of lace than succumb to such drastic measures.ā still, they appreciated sabine trying to find a way to make some good out of a bad situation. they knew they could count on her for just that.Ā āyou neednāt worry about me,ā they reminded them, though the words likely fell to deaf ears, knowing they too would pretend to not hear the other if she dared to utter such words.Ā
if anyone earned their unyielding loyalty, it was sabine. they would always worry for her.Ā
āiāll drudge through the evening and then promptly toss this and any dress they throw my way into a fiery hellfire that even hades would commend.ā the thought again elicited a smile.Ā ātell me, when you heard we were coming, is this all you expected?ā they gestured towards the display before them. the music, the dancing, the ballroom. they knew sabine didnāt peer much into mirrors back at home. they wondered what she must have thought of such a nauseating show of extravagance.Ā

Juliette hadnāt meant to seek him out, she really hadnāt. But when sheād spotted a tall, dark haired man that she thought may be Julien Legume moving towards the hallway, Juliette found herself rushing in that direction.
But not too fast. Not enough to be suspicious.
Though her heart may have been pounding and anxiety had most definitely kicked in, Juliette did not allow herself to break out into a run. She couldnāt. Moving at a healthy clip instead, she made sure that she slowed her pace enough when walking past others to keep them from noticing her hasty departure.
But then she was in the hall and sheād confirmed that her identification had, in fact, been correct. It was then that she slowed her steps even further, almost leaving her at a standstill so as to not appear desperate.
He had been avoiding her, or at least hadnāt made any effort to see her since their arrival in Auradon, and Juliette was beginning to panic. Things with Nikolai had been a mistake, but things with Julien had seemed so promising. She would not have done half of the things she had done with him if she thought the outcome might be the same as before, and on some level her brain was refusing to process that she could be in for a repeat situation.
But on another level, with full recognition of the fact that she might have been getting ahead of herself by immediately rushing to the worst conclusion (and perhaps she owed Julien more than that), she could recognize that in a room full of suitors sheād been approached by approximately zero. Up until recently she had most definitely had one. The complete lack of the maleās presence in her life since their living situation had changed. She didnāt have a great understanding of mathematics, but she wasnāt nearly as naĆÆve as one might believe.
āOh-ā she started once she found herself close enough to him, pretending to be surprised that they just so happened to have found each other.Ā āGood. I see that you did make it over in one piece.ā

the beauty of the chateau was far grander than anything julien had ever laid his eyes on ā himself, included. (it was a given that the son of gaston inherit not only his good looks but his overwhelming ego as well.) and with such a lavish place to spend their evening, julienās curiosity piqued, spending a better part of his time traversing from room to room when his eyes werenāt thoroughly raking over every perfectly-poised woman in his vicinity. men, too, but he was far more unsuspecting with such lingering looks. no, his sights were sat far beyond simply finding someone warm and willing to keep him company.Ā
the evening had only just been a taste, and he wanted more. more riches, more nobility, more of what was never to be his if he had stayed in the shadow realm a second longer.Ā
truly, he had to find her royal highness to thank her. if not for her, then how ever would he have known all that he was missing out on? sipping such sweet wine, julien couldnāt keep the dimpled grin from his face as he surveyed the ballroom, music accompanying those who danced, fine gold glinting in the light of the chandeliers, donned in clothes far nicer than he had ever owned. he could certainly get used to this.Ā
with a word to excuse himself from the person he stood with, he set his drink down and walked out towards the hallway, the music quieter from here, but still emanating through the walls as he stopped at an elegantly adorned mirror, taking a moment to straighten himself. his chin held high, he regarded himself handsomely and only pulled his gaze away when another joined him in its reflection.Ā
juliette.
spinning on his heel to face her, he realized then that he hadnāt even so much as said a word to her upon their arrival. frankly, it had completely slipped his mind. but standing before him, he found he couldnāt quite pull that as an excuse, so instead he smiled and took a gloved hand in his, kissing her knuckles as he greeted her, āmy lady.ā standing straight, he let go of his hold on her and continued,Ā āyou are a sight for sore eyes, juliette. even more beautiful under these lights than that of the drabness of home.ā
heād have to find a way to let her down. but for now, heād play his part.Ā āi take it youāve settled in well,ā julien started,Ā āa princess like you should have no trouble fitting in around here.ā her title meant nothing, and it hadnāt for some time now, but he knew she likely would appreciate that someone would still placate her with pretending it did.Ā

now, Sabine wasnāt, totally uncultured. she liked certain, classy things. maybe but she couldnāt help but hear her fatherās snide comments about all of the sparkling things around her in the back of her mind. always something aboutĀ āthem auradon people having everything and never wondering how they got it.ā it was a thorn in his side. an annoyance. even if he wasnāt exactly the villain the world made him out to be anymore, he definitely had some choice opinions on things. the people she was now in the company of was one of them. still, he had been adamant that her and Sarafine take advantage of the invitation. and to of courseĀ ānot make deals they werenāt willing to pay for.āĀ
with that in mind, the youngest Facilier ignored the pull of the shadows and spirits she could hear whispering and instead searched around the room for a familiar face. well, a familiar face she wanted to talk to. after already bothering her sister, she had another person in mind. catching sight of George, a grin nearly split her face as she moved about the room. dodging a few people. could practically hear the scandalous whispers but, didnāt care. she was uncultured⦠obviously.Ā āGeorge,ā she nearly hissed out in a whisper as she slid next to them.. looking over the outfit they had been shoved into.Ā āare you comfortable in that?ā she questioned, running her hands over her own dress.Ā
what she wouldnāt do for one of her motherās hand made hanboks. way more comfortable in her opinion.Ā āi mean, iām not and if you are, youāre lucky and i am completely happy for you.ā @cnceuponadreamā
george regretted not paying more attention when being taught what each fork was for, because if they had, then perhaps they wouldāve known which was the most appropriate to stab themselves with in the vain hope that itād spare them of the rest of this evening.Ā
tugging anxiously at the fabric of their dress, a frustrated sigh slipped past parted lips, and they wished all the more that mrs. potts had allowed them to wear absolutely anything else. in fact, they wouldāve even preferred showing up completely bare if that were even an option, because even that felt more representative of the middle gothel child than this ā this gaudy-colored, too-long, too-soft dress with a corset tight enough to feel against every one of their ribs. knowing no amount of fiddling would do them any good, they crossed their arms over their chest and appeared every bit as uninterested as they felt.Ā
turning their head to glance about the room, their eyes caught a flash of a mirror. how jarring it was to look into a mirror and see themselves; no longer looking from the outside in, but to be inside looking out. george wondered if their mother could see them now. narrowing their eyes, they dispelled the thought as quickly as it came. she didnāt think of george before, so why change now?
it was only sabineās sudden hiss of their name that forced them to look away and towards her.Ā ādo i look comfortable?ā george gruffly retorted before they stopped to take a breath ā a too-short breath given the corset, but a breath nonetheless.Ā āforgive me,ā words theyād never utter to any other,Ā āperhaps iām irritable because i miss your cooking already. the dinner they served us left something to be desired.āĀ
george grinned now, another rarity, but sabine was the only one they entrusted with anything other than brusque words and terse nods of acknowledgement. sabine was the only one who deserved to see the other side of them.Ā āyou look....ā they started with a glance over the dress they donned sabine in, a crease forming in between their brows as they finished with,Ā āwell, they certainly dressed you.āĀ
shaking their head, they said,Ā ādo you think weāll ever get to wear our own clothes?ā george glanced about the room at all the others who seemed effortless in their movements, their grace. it made them want to turn their nose up at the sight.Ā āor do you think i will be forced to commit some unseemly act to come about a pair of decent trousers?āĀ
