when I went to drama school I was forced to discuss animal characteristics in characters with another guy because this one specific drama teacher I had was low-key arthritic as fuck and hellbent on making us sit down and talk about things for hours. anyway the guy said something about how the volatile character he was reading reminded him of a doberman, in the script, and because I hadn't said anything in a while and people were picking up on it, I was forced to offer something up so I was like wow funny you should say that. Because back in the day people believed doberman dogs were inherently dangerous, due to the fact that rumour had it the specific breeding methods of them had made it so their brains would eventually grow to get too big for their skulls, and this would cause the animal to "turn", in the sense the aggression in the dog would gradually and steadily increase from puppyhood, because their brains were thought to be just slowly vacuum sealing themselves in their skulls as they aged. and our drama teacher immediately interrupted like "I think that's crazy. that you said that. you guys need to do something about that." and when I was like what... like... With the character? and he was like no, you need to raise awareness. About the dobermen. And I was like but it's not true. It was just an old wive's tale. And he was insistent like I think you guys should put your heads together and talk about this over lunch. See if you can't come up with some solutions to this. And I was like, sorry but I'm not clear on this- to the doberman breeding myth problem? Or, for what, the character? And he was like no. You're not listening. the doberman problem.
