jack's sitting on the opposite end of the couch, idly squeezing the foot you have resting in his lap. he looks up from his phone, eyebrows furrowed. he laughs a little bit. "what?"

"like, i know you're a doctor, but i forget that you know all the doctor stuff."

he blinks at you, repeating: "all the doctor stuff?"

"yes—you know what i mean!" you huff, pressing your foot against his stomach.

"sorta," he shrugs, but smiles. "what made you think about that?"

you shrug back. "i don't know. i was thinking the other day at work—when i'm sleeping you're saving lives, wearing latex gloves and pressing your stethoscope against peoples chest."

"yeah," jack laughs. "that's all i do for twelve hours."

you roll your eyes. "obviously you do more than that—do you get what i'm saying?"

"yes, baby," his voice is light. he squeezes your foot. "i guess I should start reminding you more."

"what are you doing?" you ask your boyfriend, laughing.

jack stands in the doorway of your bedroom, dramatically snapping on a pair of blue medical gloves with his stethoscope hanging around his neck.

"reminding you that your boyfriend is a doctor," he grins, shutting the door behind him.

"oh, you're my doctor tonight?" you watch jack walk further into the room, standing beside your side of the bed.

he hums, gently pulling the comforter down the bed. "i'm dr. abbot, i'll be taking care of you tonight," he tells you softly. he pulls you towards the edge of the bed and turns you to face him, leaving your legs dangling over the bed. "i need you to face me for the exam, ma'am."

you adjust yourself on the bed, sitting up excitedly and pretty for jack. he stares at you for a second, eyes roaming your face and the way you’re sitting in front of him, and inhales a deep breath before reaching out to cup your chin with his gloved hand. he tilts your head back and gently moves your head side to side, humming approvingly.

he switches to cup both sides of your face and presses against the hinge of your jaw. "does that hurt?" his voice is rough. you shake your head no. "good, baby. now, open and close for me."

and you do. jack presses his thumbs a little firmer against your skin and watches the movement, nodding approvingly. one of his hands slips down your jaw, far enough to drag his thumb against your bottom lip. he pushes forward, pressing down on your tongue. you wrap your lips around his glove and gently suck.

jack smiles. "that's really unprofessional of you, ma'am."

you laugh around jack's thumb and pull back, shaking your head. jack laughs with you and pulls both of his hands away to pull off his gloves.

"are you like that with all of your patients?"

"they wish."

you both decide on getting coffee. it’s easy enough. there’s small coffee shops all over the city!! it turns out, neither of you have been to this coffee shop. there’s the awkward moment where you both nervously fumble your orders and try to figure out if you stand around for your coffee’s or if they bring it to you. but, eventually, you two settle into a corner seat.

but it’s… awkward! the small coffee shop is almost empty. drinks aren’t being made to fill the noise. the lofi music they’re playing is too quiet. your short conversations travel across the room. it’s not going good :( you both can feel it—and you can see it on victoria’s face!

you start to say something to fill the silence—like sorry this is so awkward or can we forget this ever happened??—and the music cuts off. the lofi music. the 24 hour youtube loop of lofi music stops playing right when you start talking.

victoria stares at you, wide eyed and embarrassed.

but she laughs. not a pity laugh but a real and loud laugh. you laugh too, at yourself, at her laugh, at this.

“god, this is bad.” you laugh.

victoria nods, coming down from her laughing fit. “like, really bad.”

you lean forward, scooting your chair back in the process. “do you wanna go somewhere else?”

“yes, please.” she eagerly nods, already leaving her seat.
