âSo⌠how are things going with you and Spencer? I saw you two out with ivy on my morning walk the other day. You looked like a real family.â Something Leanne has never seen with Catâs husband. âHave you, you know..â Leanne wiggled her eyebrows sensually as she sipped on her peppermint tea, her warm, wooly socked feet sliding under her as she relaxed into her husband Malâs recliner, opposite cat. âDonât even think about the calories in that, just eat it.â She nodded to the homemade chicken and dumplings sheâd made for them. Leanne was anxious to hear how things had developed since the serious conversion theyâd had during their little camping trip. Sheâd invited her surrogate to stay over with Ivy since she had Lucas for the weekend, allowing the babies to have their first official play date. âThey look so precious together.â It was going well so far, both of them sat on a fluffy blanket in front of the television with the Backyardigans on low volume. âYou need to tell that douche bag of a husband to hit the road already. I know itâs hard for you to, but you canât keep living like this. Heâs draining your life force, he doesnât care.â She sighed, hoping this little affair with Spencer was opening the womanâs eyes to as to how she deserved to be treated. âAt this point Ivy is going to think Spenser is her father. He had more to do with her.â That sentence made Leanne feel both sick and saddened. She wasnât one too encourage cheating, but good lord, Cat needed to get away from her emotionally abusive, neglectful, distant husband.
Catherine and Spencer had seen each other a couple of times recently, mostly at her apartment, but once when they knew David was out of town theyâd gone on a walk instead. Just to give her daughter a little fresh air, nothing too obviously romantic, but god it had felt it to Cat. Every so often sheâd reach out her hand to graze the manâs fingertips with her own, almost holding hands but not quite. Watching him dote on the baby whenever she fussed and take her down the slide on his lap like she was his own, it had melted her heart a million times over. Probably why she hadnât even realised anyone she knew had seen them, aka Leanna apparently. âYou saw us? Why didnât you come and say hello! Now I feel so rude for just not seeing you or anything.â Although how could she have spoken to her if she literally hadnât known she was there. Glancing down at the food in front of her she did as she was told, taking a bite, it was delicious of course. The woman knew how to cook homey food and it was something Cat had never really had in her life before. âUm, we have.â She murmured as she looked down at the plate, feeling her cheeks heating up considerably as they turned bright pink, not because she was embaressed sheâd had sex but more because talking to Leanne about it felt like talking to a mother. Well she was a mother. Glancing over at Ivy and Lica she broke out into a big mile, loving the sight of the two littles ones together, ivy already a social butterfly just like her mother, obviously. âThey do, I canât believe Iâve never shown her the show before, sheâs loving it.â Taking another bite the blonde almost choked as the brutally honest words left the older womanâs lips, agreeing with the sentiment but not quite expecting it. Hearing someone say so bluntly that her husband didnât care just hit differently to when sheâd murmured it hesitantly herself in the past, it was so stark, so final. âI think she already does a lot of the time, she loves him.â It was true, anytime Ivy was in Spencerâs arms she looked happier than ever, which was both adorable and sad in equal measures.
