Kara does not like the TV screens in Cats office. Usually she is displayed on them and it makes her flimsy excuses even more unbelievable because she and Cat are still upholding this ridiculous charade. But now she likes them even less. Because Cat is sighing in a soft and slightly… gasping way. She has had her chair turned towards the screens for over an hour now and the little sounds that she makes when a particular good shot is revealed makes Kara’s stomach boil with something nasty and sharp.

‘Oh…’ Cat sounds surprised and in awe and Kara has had enough. Without thinking she walks into Cats office and produces a polite, sunny, yet little fake ‘do you want a latte, miss Grant?’

Cat turns a little, but only enough to look at Kara with a gaze that means “does your IQ get over 20”, her body remains pointed towards the screens. ‘I don’t believe I asked for one, and neither do you have one to surprise me with, so apart from reminding me of your incompetence I don’t understand what you are doing in my office.’

Kara blushes. Busted. ‘Yes. Of course miss Grant, I will leave. I just thought perhaps you would want one. And I have finished bringing the layouts to James so I have a spare minute to get you one. If you wanted it, that is.’ She lets out a nervous laugh.

Cat only grabs a few M&M’s. ‘No. I don’t. So chop chop.’ She turns her gaze back to the screens again. Kara acknowledges her attempt at… well… something, has not worked. When she is almost out the door Cat speaks up again.

‘Oh and Kiera? Contact Rio, I want a spread on feminism and sports. The way these reporters talk about female athletes is appalling.’

Kara lets out a relieved sigh. So Cat was just doing research. She wasn’t-

‘And I just know these shoulders will motivate many.’ Cat’s eyes turn a little darker while the female swimmers get ready for the 200 meter backstroke.

Drooling. Cat is drooling over female swimmers.            

‘But miss Grant these-‘ Kara starts, but Cat interrupts her.

‘You see the lines? The elegance of the way they cut through the water, the broadness of their back’ Cat continues with a far away gaze. ‘You don’t see that often. I mean Supergirl flies but…’

But what? She can do that. Hello, it’s just that she isn’t allowed to compete, Kara wants to say. She can be as speedy. She can run, she can fly, she can swim, she can wear a bathing suit and show off her shoulders like that if Cat insists on drooling over a little skin, she can- ‘I can get wet.’

Silence. Kara understands she said something wrong. Very, very wrong. She hasn’t said anything this embarrassing since George Milton had her believing raisins were dried rabbit droppings. But this, this exceeds it all. And she said it to Cat. Oh my. She is so fired.

Cat just stares at her. Her mouth slightly open and her eyes dark. Very dark. ‘You...you…’

Shit. Whoopsy daisy crappity crap. ‘I mean Supergirl. Supergirl can get, I mean, she can swim. Very good. I know so because I saw her once. Swimming.’ Kara is blushing harder than she ever has. This is so bad.

Cat seemed to have collected herself a little. Still, she takes a swig of her glass, not caring that it is empty. She swallows thickly. ‘Well, then… Contact Supergirl that she can be in the spread too.’ Cat looks imploringly.

Kara nods like she wants her head to fall off. She has been let of the hook. ‘Of course miss Grant. I see what I can-‘

‘In bikini.’

Kara gasps again. ‘Right…’

‘What? Oh, that. Nothing. I mean, just a silly gift. It’s nothing. Some prank my sister pulled on my because of my lack of love life okay shutting up now.’ Kara nervously smiled, trying to hide the outrageous mug standing pontifical on her desk. Alex had it delivered to her with a little note saying ‘Maybe it’ll spur Olsen or some other hottie on to offer some water in your embarrassing desert of a love life. X, sis’. She had blushed after opening it, which luckily to the absence of windows in her office no one saw, but had immerged herself in work shortly after as her new job as junior editor was –if possible- even more difficult than being Cat’s assistant. Which was partly because Cat still behaved like Kara was her assistant, seeking her out at least once a day to give her some meaningless task. She had all forgotten about the gift until Cat had entered her little space and immediately commented on its presence. Kara should have known this was disastrous. Nervously she tried to distract Cat away from the cheap ceramic.

“The lay-outs are ready miss Grant. They’re right…’ Kara nervously shuffled through several papers on her desk, ‘here! There you go.’ She smiled and held out the papers. A blinding Sunny Danvers smile. ‘Anything else I can do for you?’

Cat strutted towards her with the confidence and grace that revealed her name even though she abhorred any puns. But instead of accepting the lay-outs she continued until she stepped around the desk right into Kara’s personal space. With a smirk she leaned in closer and before Kara could process the whole situation –superpowers or not- she felt a soft kiss pressed to her cheek. Right near her ear. Kara was stunned.

‘Thank you, Kara. That’s all, for now.’ She heard Cats voice so close and felt her breath along her skin.

With an elegant curve Cat plucked the lay-outs from her hands and strode through the door, leaving a blushing and shocked Kara behind.

Okay but what about an AU in which instead of Pokemoncards there were these things called Shipcards (a mix between Pokemoncards with different strengths and Happy Families cards) and there was this special set with all the glitters and shine called ‘Queens’ featuring the Ice Queen (Miranda Priestly), The Evil Queen (Regina Mills) and The Queen of All Media (Cat Grant). And then these goofballs Andy, Emma  and Kara are obviously millenials that grow up with this right? So Andy is a fan from the first hour on. She has a neat little map where she keeps her cards. One Christmas Andy gets a package, and she gets all exhilarated when she sees glitters when she opens it but they’re pink and even though she is overjoyed with a Queencard she hoped it would be the Ice Queen instead of The Queen of All Media. Still, throughout the years she collects most of the cards, and the kids in the schoolyard are often willing to trade with her because she is honest and sweet. When everyone around her grows up Andy does too, but when Nate suggest she gives the cards away to her nephew because they dont have much space in the appartment he sleeps on the couch for two days. Kara’s first material thing on earth that she truly got attached to were the Shipcards because they looked so pretty and it helped her remember things about humans. For example the difference between a Shipcard character that got described as snarky vs a character described as snide, and it told her about approprate favourite foods to have such as lasagna instead of pancakes with apple sauce and mayonaise. The Queen set was her absolute favourite set because they truly seemed to make a difference on this planet. In fact she never grows out of it and sometimes buys a package, giddy with the prostpect of perhaps receiving a Queen this time. Winn stutters while James laughs really hard when they find her carefully opening one during her lunchbreak on a particularly challenging day with Cat being dissatisfied with everything and everyone while looking absolutely gorgeous. ‘Supergirl - again’ she mutters when she sees the first card but underneath it is one with - oh Rao- glitters! Her Kryptonian heart beats loudly only to falter slightly. Well, Ice Queen is great obviously, but perhaps she had hoped a little for The Queen of All Media. Who is now looking at her with an arched eyebrow through the Bullpen, whoops back to work it is. 

Cat: *raises an eyebrow*

Kara: Right, yes, haha, you are not a fan of those, I know. It just showed that everyone can be with anyone you know, like rabbits and foxes...

Cat:
