one thing that I find funny about this blog is that I started it after I had been playing my instrument for a whopping two years and now people are coming to me for music advice even though I’m still a violin toddler

those nighttime band bus rides where people are napping or singing or laughing or listening to music and there’s the faint glow of the streetlights passing by and everything feels right in the world

Band rehearsals are weird because sometimes you’re all laughing about some inside joke or music pun and then sometimes your director has just screamed at the band and it feels like someone just died

You’re also good enough to be Section Leader, Horn Segreant, or Drum Major. As long as you put in all the work, you’ll get there. Sometimes with these positions you’ll get screwed over by seniority (it happened to me for Drum Major) but that does not mean you’re terrible at conducting, or you’re a bad musician, or anything like that. I was afraid too that I was horrible until my BD and Drum Major told me otherwise. And you know what? You don’t have to wait to be told. You’re not terrible, you’ve made it this far. You’re good, and you will make it happen.

Conductor: I couldn’t give a bigger cue if I had firearms.
