It was a busy day at the supermarket, but Chaerin had to get her favorite shrimp snacks no matter what. If she was going to spend the rest of the evening all alone, she needed those snacks. Chaerin hated crowdy places though. She got annoyed by all the whining children and nagging mothers very easily. As soon as she noticed there were only a few of her favorite snack left, she hurried to the shelves to put two of them in her basket. 

Chaerin noticed that Changmin didn’t really like the haziness of her words. There was no way she could actually give him every detail though. Those were secrets. Even she didn’t know everything. 

“It’s not that we can’t keep track of our money. We simply don’t have any money anymore. We need a new sponsor.” Chaerin spoke as she shrugged a bit. It wasn’t her problem, she would even prefer her gang to go bankrupt, so she could live her own life. However, it was very important to her brother. 

Chaerin was pretty surprised that Changmin actually seemed to care about another human’s life. Most people she met were ruthless and had never shown any pity. “There’s no need to know what happened to our sponsor. All I’m saying is that it wasn’t our fault and you will have nothing to do with it.” She assured Changmin. Their enemies had killed their sponsor, because they knew it would be troublesome to the Black Bloods. Chaerin had to admit it was a smart move, but she also knew her brother wouldn’t give up that easily. 

There was something about the young woman that quelled Changmin’s suspicions. Maybe it was the way her eyes widened just the slightest in sincerity when she spoke. Maybe it was the way her voice softened to reassure him. Whatever it was, it had Changmin listening, waiting, and thinking. She had made good points. More so the professor was desperate to get a lead. He only had one part of the story, he needed the other side to actually get into the depth of his quest. 

“Alright. Can I ask you some questions?” Chaerin asked as soon as Changmin finished talking. Instead of waiting for an answer, she continued asking her questions. “First of all.. How precise do I have to be with my answers? How exact should their locations be?” She wished to know. It would be difficult to track down every certain location from such a long time ago. Also, many people didn’t like sharing their personal lives.

Chaerin silently sipped from her drink as she listened to Changmin’s offer. This guy was smarter than the foolish, perverted guys she usually met. What else did she expect though, there was a reason he was the youngest professor at Seoul University. A feeling of jealousy took over. She imaged what it would be like to be a student in one of his classes, actually learning things out of books instead of learning them the hard way. 

“It’s not that we can’t keep track of our money. We simply don’t have any money anymore. We need a new sponsor.” Chaerin spoke as she shrugged a bit. It wasn’t her problem, she would even prefer her gang to go bankrupt, so she could live her own life. However, it was very important to her brother.

Chaerin couldn’t help but see the scars on his arms. She had never seen them before, he must’ve been hiding them. Even though she knew it was none of her business, she still wondered what exactly happened. Instead of being rude and asking him about the scars, she simply apologized for coming in.

Chaerin felt relieved once she realized that the guy in front of her didn’t get hurt. He even showed her a smile, which was quite new to her. She thought it was weird that she had never seen him before. An appearance like this would be memorable, especially for Chaerin. Observing was something she always did, without having to think about it. This guy had definitely never crossed her path before.

Chaerin wondered what he was thinking about. His face was hard to read. That’s why she didn’t see his next sentence coming. “My date?” Chaerin asked surprised. He must’ve concluded that she was going out to eat with someone else.

“Oh, my date called ‘food’.” Chaerin spoke, hoping he wouldn’t take her too serious. “Yeah, I’ve been looking forward to meeting ‘food’ the entire afternoon.” She couldn’t help but give him sarcastic answers as a grin slightly appeared on her face,

Before Taemin could stop himself he quirked a brow, lips settling into a smirk at her words. Ah, of course he’d read too much into it– he supposed he would have answered in much the same way. Instead of being annoyed he merely laughed softly, the back of his hand coming up to shield his mouth.

The way he spoke made it seem like he was serious, lips settling into a soft line as he looked at her. It wasn’t until the corner of his lip trembled, another fit of laughter leaving him as he looked away. 

                                                            ＂Sorry, sorry I couldn’t help myself. ＂  

When the last of his laughter had subsided he smiled gently, mirth still dancing behind his eyes as he spoke.

“Oh my, I wouldn’t want to meet him being all cold. I’m not sure if I can handle that.” Chaerin spoke, a shocked look on her face. “Thanks for warning me.” Hiding her laugh was not something she was good at, so she quickly looked down. 

“Yes, yes.. I’m sorry too.” A softly mumble escaped her lips as she put a strand of hair behind her ear. She still felt a bit surprised by this pleasant but uncommon meeting.

“Taemin? My name is..” She hesitated a short moment about whether it was safe or not to tell this stranger her real name. However, the person in front of her didn’t seem like someone that would ever get in touch with her brother’s gang. ‘Fuck it’ she thought and continued with her sentence.
