30th L'Anniversary Starting Live "L'APPY BIRTHDAY!"
Thirty years is a long time. Frankly too long for most bands to be around, I'd rather see them go gracefully than make mediocre music and keep singing old hits for old people who want to relieve their youth. But that does not apply to Laruku. And this concert is a statement to confirm that. The band delivered 100/100.
This wasn't how their 30th anniversary was supposed to be but right now it's a miracle it even happened. Covid made adjustments and they had to make do with a small audience of 10,000 people. The masked audience couldn't sing along but Hyde made them hum and clap and made sure everyone was having a blast.
I have felt a profound admiration for Hyde as an artist, even more than before. What a powerhouse! What an absolute tiny unit! Incredible vocal and emotional range. He never stayed still, he ran, he rolled, he jumped, he danced and filled the stage with his huge presence. Like, young Hyde might be prettier but he could not put on a show like this.
The setlist was great, because literally all Laruku songs are great. They had some huge hits, some new songs and also some unexpected ones, like Metropolis.
Everyone looked great. Of course, Hyde, that gorgeous bastard but especially Tetsu. Do they put him in cryo capsule for 5 years between anniversaries? He doesn't age at all. Ken looked a little distant. Did he quit smoking on stage? At least Hyde kept him entertained.
Despite the limitations, it was everything you expect from a L'Arc concert, 2+ hours of amazing music and overflowing energy in every colour.
