Looking at what national news outlets are up to right now, one might not realize a whole major US metropolitan area is, you know, sort of under attack by paramilitary forces. Wild.
While it's not going unreported entirely, what's been happening in Minnesota and in MinneapolisâSaint Paul in particular since Renee Good was murdered is not getting the attention it should be.
There are already 2000 gangsters from DHS deployed, and "hundreds" or "1000" more are on the way, depending on which Trumpland person you ask. As a point of reference, the Twin Cities' actual police total just under 1200 (600 in Minneapolis and 590 in Saint Paul according to the depts' sites).
The feds there are more or less attacking people at random. They've gone door-to-door for "citizenship checks" (completely illegal). They've knocked doors down when residents haven't complied (obviously also completely illegal). In addition to abducting and brutalizing the immigrants they come across during their rampages, they've done the same to US citizens of color and are also harassing, stalking and physically attacking observers.

literally the mobile interface gets worse with every update. like who asked for the âreblog nowâ button. Was the two seconds it took to be given the option of adding something to the post before clicking reblog too much for people that now we need a whole new âstreamlinedâ reblog button? i seriously want to know who itâs for. and thatâs just one tiny gripe compared to some of the other shit interface design choices on this app đľâđŤ
I think what makes me angriest is that staff will roll out changes in an attempt to appeal to everyone BUT its userbase. Like tumblr live and tumblr tv trying to draw in tiktok users, or the reformatting of the UI to resemble twitter and bluesky⌠but why would those users come here when they already have tiktok and twitter and bluesky already doing those things, and doing them better? All tumblr ends up doing is further alienating the people still here, who want tumblr to be TUMBLR.
It just ends up feeling hostile and benefits absolutely nobody.
EXACTLYYYY!!! this is a greater problem with most social media now, everything is becoming homogenized. every app is trying to maximize user retention so they can scrape in that sweet ad money by offering everything the other apps do, but it just makes apps lose their original appeal and pushes away their original user base.
For example, like you mentioned with tumblr trying to entice tiktok users over, everything has a scrollable short form content feature now because tiktok is super successful. insta and facebook reels, youtube shorts, and tumblr tv. To make it worse, 90% of these short form videos are cross posted from one of the OTHER platforms, so it really is all just the same stuff in different places.
donât get me wrong, i do like tiktok. i spend quite a bit of time there. but i donât need tiktok on EVERY APP. itâs exhausting. and boring. and with AI, late stage capitalism, and features no one asked for infecting everything (etsy and pinterest definitely come to mind) really all social media has gotten SO MUCH WORSE just in the last 5/6 years alone.
