Words to find (in your WIP folder or published works):
stumble, glass, purse, hold, mobile
from The Mole
Four rumpled and tired-looking players stumble down the stairs to breakfast. “Help yourselves to coffee,” Mycroft tells them. “You’ll want to be alert for the next quiz.”
Moriarty, Mrs. Hudson, and John groan.
Sherlock — who earned an exemption by winning the dance competition — looks smug. “I’m not worried,” he says.
John kicks him under the table. Sherlock winks at him.
...
from MJN Ranch
“I’m glad this isn’t really our honeymoon, because being in the saddle all afternoon may have done permanent damage to the necessary equipment,” Hamish says ruefully.
“Well, then, it’s fortunate that I’m married to my work instead of to you,” William replies with a chuckle.
But when he turns away to look out the window at the starry night, his grin fades to a wistful smile. His expression, reflected in the glass, is mirrored on Hamish’s face.
...
from The Value of Deductions
Placing the coin in his purse, Sherlock continued along his way. Soon he met with a young man selling chickens. Sherlock took one look at him and deduced:
“Those chickens are not rightfully yours to sell. You pilfered them from your neighbor.”
Once again, Sherlock’s deduction received no response. The young man had disappeared, leaving nothing but a gold coin — and his ill-gotten chickens — behind.
Sherlock retrieved the coin. It was identical to the first. He added it to his purse.

from Playfully Planned Parenthood [plus podfic]
JOHN: You know that thing we don’t do very often, but save for special occasions?
SHERLOCK: Special occasions like, for example, our wedding day?
JOHN: Right. But only after Mrs. Hudson leaves, because someone is a screamer, and I don’t want her phoning 999. Again.
SHERLOCK: I hold you entirely responsible for that.

from Sherlock in Oz
“Mrs. Hudson wasn’t kidding about Kansas being flat,” John says with a sigh.
Sherlock can’t argue. The land is flat. The Vacancy/No Vacancy sign in font of this rundown motel is lying flat on the ground at his feet. And the tyre on the rental car they abandoned on the side of the road half a mile away is undeniably flat.
John’s voice is as flat as Kansas when he adds, “I suppose we’d better see if they have any rooms available.”
There is a room — singular. Sherlock takes the key card from the bored-looking young man at the desk and leads the way along the row of numbered doors until they come to 114.
Inside, it is clean but cramped. A double bed takes up most of the small space. It is flanked by two tiny end tables — one with a lamp on it, the other with a phone. There’s also a chest of drawers with a television bolted to the top, and a single arm chair. The en suite has a shower stall but no bath.
Sherlock lifts the handset of the ancient phone. No dial tone. He reads the instructions printed on the base and tries to call the front desk. Nothing. He slams it back down.
“Problem?” John asks.
“No service. I don’t know how people communicate in this country, with no mobile reception, and landlines that don’t work. There isn’t even any Wi-Fi here. How are we supposed to contact someone about fixing that flat?”

The goal of this game is to find particular words in one's WIPs, but if you don't have enough/any WIPs, please share any posted fics that have them.
Thanks for the tag @chriscalledmesweetie !
Since I didn't get any new words, I picked random ones: moon - waterfall - song - love - button
Respectable Haunting (for the most part) I actually started this WIP today! It's the third work in The Haunted Manor series.
They stop talking about it, but that doesn’t mean they stop thinking about it. Both know it’s counterproductive to avoid the metaphorical elephant in the room, but the topic is too upsetting. When Sherlock feels close to bursting with holding it in, something happens.
Going by the darkness outside, he knows they are approaching November. Tonight, a full moon shines nearly as bright as the sun, illuminating the manor in all its glory.
“It must be Halloween, don’t you think? I can hear children shouting in the distance,” John ponders where he’s standing beside Sherlock looking out on the overgrown garden.
Eleven Doors (my monthly Infinifluff fic. This excerpt is from the November chapter)
“Come on. Let’s solve this mystery,” John coaxes and walks down a broad path where the sound of rain comes from.
As they get closer to their goal, the forest opens, and John discerns sunlight just a few metres away. He grips Sherlock’s hand tighter and increases his pace. When they reach the spot, they both gasp in astonishment.
In front of them are several waterfalls. The highest – a several hundred metres drop – looks like a long silver slide. To its right is a broader one with plateaus. Each level is adorned with dark blue flowers, which makes for a dramatic effect. Opposite is a more accessible waterfall with less power in the spray. The water ends its journey in a cyan-coloured pond.
The Tenor from Northumberland (my second 2026 FTH fic, which needs some more editing and a beta before it can be posted)
I hadn’t thought my plan through. Well, I had, but not how it would affect me. However, there was nothing for it; I had made my bed and now I had to sleep in it.
Since when had I started using such idioms?
We found a secluded place behind some cliffs, John warmed up his vocal cords by doing some scales, while I found the perfect angle to film his performance.
I had no idea which song John would choose. Even if he had told me the title, I wouldn’t have had a clue.
“I trust you and your instincts, John,” I assured him when he asked about it.
The lovely smile he gave me, plastered a broad grin on my own face; it was contagious.
And that was the end of my current WIPs.
Yellow Softness (fluffy parent!lock)
“You miss Mary.”
“No! No, Sherlock. Absolutely not. Mary never showed Rosie this kind of…”
He trailed off. What word did he avoid saying? Certainly not “care”. Something else, more profound. I looked down at a now sleeping Watson and tried to analyse my feelings for this little girl. When it hit me, it was like an earthquake. It was “love” John meant but didn’t dare to say aloud. The same word I would use if I were to explain my feelings for John.
A different kind of love, obviously.
“Sherlock, are you still with me?” John teased.
I’ve been walking the corridors of my Mind Palace, and I’m not always able to control the amount of time I use there. Watson still slept in my arms, but her fist had gone limp and lay splayed on my stomach.
“I’ll take her upstairs,” John whispered and skilfully lifted her into his own arms.
I felt bereft of her warmth, like a blanket being torn away from me. Before John turned to leave, I leapt to my feet and placed my hand on her bare foot. I squeezed ever so slightly and murmured my goodnight before retreating to my bedroom. I could feel John’s gaze on me like a laser.
My Kingdom for a Frappé (a silly fic about iced coffee that never seems to be delivered to the one who ordered it)
He was led to the room where Mycroft was waiting for him, and just when John was extending his hand with the cold drink, an indecent female moan – a loud one at that – startled him. His grip on the plastic cup loosened and seconds later, Mycroft’s perfectly polished shoes, suit trousers, and the Persian carpet were soiled with coffee, syrup, whipped cream, and ice cubes.
“Sherlock!” Mycroft exclaimed.
John was quite certain he’d heard wrong, but when he turned his head from the catastrophic sight on the floor, he saw the younger Holmes brother who was sprawled on the leather sofa. In his hand was a mobile, which his long fingers tapped rapidly on.
“It is hardly my fault Lestrade sent me a text just now, Mycroft,” he scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“Very well,” Mycroft sighed dramatically and pushed a button on the desk.
Before John could locate something to clean up the mess he’d made, a man entered, surveyed the scene, nodded, and left again.
“I…I am so – “
“Yes,” Mycroft said slowly, dragging out the e as much as possible. “You may go back to the office. Find your other suit jacket and await further orders.”
John looked over at Sherlock who winked at him before he continued texting.

John would totally get Sherlock one of these for his birthday. And Sherlock would totally flood him with kisses, wearing it proudly as he picks up Rosie from school and glancing at it as he plays his adored violin. Yep. He'd go crazy.

Summary: “What if I was the consulting detective, and you were my assistant?” Sherlock asked.
John rolled his eyes. “Don’t be a wanker. It would never work.”
“Why? I’m smarter than you.”
“You may well be, but you lack common sense and have no finesse.”
“Says the man who just called his partner a wanker.”
What if their personalities were intact, but their roles were reversed? This is A Study in Pink flipped. In this au, John is the unstoppable consulting detective, and Sherlock is the broken doctor, newly invalided from Afghanistan. Both gifted geniuses, both equally flawed.

John is a soldier, following Mycroft’s orders. He knows how to separate his feelings from his work. It’s convenient he’s a doctor too, but that isn’t why he was hired. He has an assignment: find the mole. When that’s done, he’ll move out. Staying was never a possibility.
Never trust your heart to a soldier.
