(Warning: blood. Partial g/ore.)
The texts had caught her off guard. Although the nature of the message instilled enormous amounts of fear in her, that was a sense of urgency that she felt, reading the texts.
Puppy? Who did he mean by 'puppy'? Had Jake owned a dog that she wasnβt aware of? No, that couldnβt be right, in fact, she was there when his last dog passed away due to old age, and after that, Jake avoided all talks about getting another dog that would replace the one he had.
But she knew there was little time to spare, a wave of nausea hit her, but she was not about to give up. She was still unable to locate or reach Jake, which was, in it itself, strange, because he would always answer her texts and calls no matter where he was. That was a thing between them. She understood that he might have been busy the day before, but something about what Sooji said gnawed at her insides. If Sooji was able to drop everything and come to the hospital to visit her, Jake would have done the same thing, regardless. In fact, he switched all his classes to the online versions just to keep watch over her since this fiasco started.
Something wasnβt right, and the texts only confirmed that something might have happened to Jake.
βMr. Yeonjunβ¦umββ
She had no time to be meek, she had to assert herself if she wanted confirmation that Jake was ok.
He seemed to sense her urgency, and made his way over, concern clear on his face. βWhatβs wrong? What happened?β
She passed her phone to him, with the stalkerβs texts on full display.
βI got a text from the stalker, and I think my friendβs in troubleβ¦β
Yeonjun stared at her, and then at the offered phone in her hands before he took it and read through the message.
And then his expression turned to one of disgust. And maybe irritation. Not in that specific order.
βDamn it,β he growled, clearly enraged. βIβll call the others for back up and weβll go to his home to check on him.β
Y/N tensed, and then attempted to get out of the bed. βWait, Iβm coming, too.β
Yeonjun stared at her, almost dumbfounded at her declaration.
βNo, youβre not. Youβre not recovered yet. You should stay here.β
But she was not having it.
βI need to go to make sure heβs okay, itβs my fault this happened.β
Yeonjun looked like he was fighting a losing battle, at this point. If it was him in her shoes, he would want to know if his friend was okay, right?
βFine, but stick with me.β
The drive there was undeniably intense. Chan, who was contacted on the phone, was a little more than unhappy that Y/N was allowed to tag along. The whole reason why everything started was because she had been a victim of a vile stalker. Why bring her to a place where she could, at any time, be the target of a crazy creeper?
But Y/N begged and begged. She knew that this could very well be another case of her being stupidly stubborn and getting herself into more trouble than she could ever imagine, but this was Jake, and she had every right to know if he was okay.
Jake had still yet to recover fully, at least, in her mind, and if he were to fall prey to some crazy predatorβ¦
β¦no, you canβt think that way, Y/N. Get that thought out of your head.
She wanted to vomit.
No, no, Jake is fine, Jake is fineβ¦
Before long, they arrived at the front of Jakeβs home, where she had been staying for the past few weeks. Including Y/N, Yeonjun and Chan, there were three other police officers on-site, who had arrived before them.
βSir, the door to the place was opened when we arrived,β the officer declared, notifying Chan of what they found.
Open? Jake would neverβ
Chan nodded at the officers on-site and motioned for them to follow his lead. βWeβre going in.β
Y/N followed suit, right behind Yeonjun, and waited as the officers searched the house for any signs of danger.
βThe floor upstairs and the current floor are clear,β she heard one of the officers call out.
But there was something out of place, after all, and Y/N took notice of them a little after they were given the clear. And it was the door to the basement. Like the front door that was reportedly opened before the police officers got there, this one was also left open.
Y/N knew it was an empty space down there, and Jake had plans to renovate the place into his own studio, or rather, recording studio, so he could make his own songs instead of always bugging his co-worker to use his.
The problem was, he didnβt have a lot of money on hand to just plainly throw into renovations so he planned to wait until he graduated to fully renovate the place.
And the door to the basement was always left closed. That was the discrepancy.
βUm, the basement doorβ¦β
Chan looked over his shoulder at Y/N, and then stared at the door she was pointing at before he turned to face the other officers, motioning for them to get into position.
It was the last floor in the house they had yet to clear.
One of the officers pulled open the door fully, and descended down the stairs, followed by other officers, Chan, and finally Yeonjun.
And something stopped them in their tracks.
Chan, without looking back, growled for Yeonjun to keep Y/N out of the basement.
βYeonjun, keep her upstairs.β
Y/N, who heard the order, tensed up. With every passing moment, she could hear her heart beating faster and faster. Why, though?
ββ¦whatβs down thereβ¦? What do you seeβ¦?β
Yeonjun took a peak over Chanβs shoulder and his eyes widened at the scene.
βMiss Y/N, itβs best you donβt see this.β
What did he mean by that? What were they staring at? Where was Jake? Was Jake ok?
βIt might be too late to save your friendββ
She felt her heart stop.
Was that a cryptic message of some sort, what did he mean by too late to save Jake, what did he mean, what did he mean, damn it, what did he meanβ
Chan looked rather irritated at Yeonjun, who countered with his own frustrated sigh. βShe will find out eventually, whether we like it or not.β
Chan was just about mutter something along the lines of βYeonjun had one jobβ when Y/N screamed.
And a blood-curdling scream at that.
Seemed like she saw what they were all staring at.
In front of her eyes was her best friend, bound to a chair, blood everywhere. There was just so much blood. His face was brutally cut into, his clothes were left in tatters as a result of all the cuts that covered his body, mainly his torso. Thick layers of blood covered all of his wounds, indicating that what had transpired had occurred a long time ago.
There were blood splatters on the far wall, on the ceiling, and all around him. The one single blade left on the ground next to Jake gleaned in the evening light that seeped through the basement window, covered in a thick layer of blood. The sunset's heavy red hue had set the stage for the violent murder.
There was justβ¦soβ¦much bloodβ¦
And his head was tilted back, and in her mind, she could have sworn he was just asleepβ
βbut she knew.
She knew. But she denied itβthat wasnβt possible, her best friend wasnβt dead, no, no, no, that wasnβt possible.
Y/N was fighting a wave of nausea as her vision became obscured with tears, and she didnβt know what to do at this point.
She vomited on the stairs right where she stood, and passed out.

βΎ SYNOPSIS y/n is a girl who lives a mundane life as a university student. however, things started to deviate from her sense of normalcyβgifts start arriving at her door, creepy messages bombard her phone, and the constant feeling that she's being watched. she enlists the help of her best friend, jake, and as time passes, both of them realize that this is the work of an obsessive stalker with a motive. time is running out and things are spiring out of controlβwill y/n be able to take back the life she once had?
It was going to be an in-and-out task. Plainly simple, in Y/Nβs eyes. True that it had been a few weeks since the break-in, and she probably figured it would take a little longer for her stalker to act up again.
However, looking back at it, it had been a long time since she had stepped foot in her own house because of the previously βactive crime sceneβ title that it held. No longer, though.
Regardless, she managed to get inβand now that everything was said and done, it did feel a little disappointingβand she would just grab her project and leave because that was what she promised.
The search was a speedy one, as she knew exactly where it was supposed to be. However, what she didnβt count on was the fact that the longer she stayed in her own home, the uneasier she felt.
There was little use in dwelling over that as she made her way out of her room.
And that was when she heard it. The sound of someone else in her house. Soobin really jinxed it, didnβt he?
The footsteps didnβt seem like one she had ever heard, and knowing her friends who had been in and out of her house constantly, the existence of unfamiliar footsteps made her on edge. More so now than ever. It could, she reasoned, very well be a member of the police force, but then again, wouldnβt the police need a warrant to come into the houseβor rather, explicit permission from the house owner?
Because ultimately, her home was no longer an active crime scene.
And that was what made her heart raceβand not in a good way. Damn it, maybe she should have listened to Soobin and Sooji, why did she have to be so stubborn?
With little time to spare, she ducked into a spare room and looked around for somewhere she could hide in. Y/N wasnβt by any means large, but that didnβt mean she could fit into any nook and cranny she could find. Locating a good hiding spot proved to be difficult, but she was saved by her good fortune when she spotted a closet that was big enough to hold a person with a relatively small stature.
Slowly, making sure that she made no noise, Y/N crawled into the closet and closed the door behind her, making sure to turn off any items that could possibly give her location away.
And she waited.
And waited.
And then, she heard it. The sound of the door to the room she was hiding slowly creaking open. Y/N covered her mouth with her hands and waited for the storm to blow over.
Damn, the intruder wasnβt leaving. She at least didnβt hear any signs of movement from the person, at least. That was a good thing, right?
Also, could her heartbeat get any louder? She suspected that perhaps the intruder could hear them too and that was why he was not leaving.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump!
Why was it getting louder?
She was feeling lightheaded. Please, please leaveβ¦!
And thenβ
βI know youβre in here."
It was an almost automatic voice, so it did not resemble any voice she had ever heard. And it was taunting her.
And she stopped breathing.
Please, please!
βI can hear you breathing, princess.β
No, no, no, no, no!!
βCome out and I wonβt hurt you. Promise.β
No, no, no, pleaseβ¦
β¦Please!!
And then it all stopped. There were no more sounds after that. At this point, all Y/N could hear was the sound of her own heartbeat thundering against her ears.
Every beat was like a strike of lightning that came before a heavy storm.
And then just like that, she managed to ride out the storm when she heard retreating footsteps, exiting from the room she was hiding in.
She could finally breathe again.
She waited for a while before she carefully pushed the closet door open and crawled out, her legs shaky from the near-death encounter she had experienced.
She needed to make a beeline for the main door, it was of paramount importance. Hopefully, she would be out of the intruderβs line of sight at this point, but she had no confidence that things would go in her favour in the long run.
But she needed to leave. She needed to get out of here.
So she made a mad dash towards the doorβ
βand that was when she saw it. The back of the intruder. She was in so much shock that she knocked over a box that sat against the wall.
Y/N froze stiff.
'Damn it, body, move!! Move, damn it!'
'No, no, please move!'
'Damn it, Iβll do anything!!'
'Just moveβ!'
It was the fastest she had ever run. She wasnβt even sure that it was possible for her to move this fast. When she saw that he had stated after her, she quickened her movements and willed her limbs to push on forward.
But it seemed like it wasnβt good enough because by the time she had made it out of her door and almost to the sidewalk, he had caught up to her.
In a split second, he grabbed onto her wrist.
And she was caught.
'Damn it, not now, please, if there is a god somewhere, please let me escape, I donβt want to dieβ
βIβm scared!'
But she had to escape somehow, and when push came to shove, she relied on her survival instincts to guide her way.
And she bit him.
Effective, but animalistic. There was little she could do at this point. His grip loosened and she wrenched her wrist from his grip, and ran off, away from the man who was chasing her.
But she kept on running. And running.
Right into Sunghoon.
βY/N?β
It felt like everything came crashing down, and as she felt her adrenaline wearing off, she could feel her dizziness returning.
βSunghoonβ¦?β
She had never seen him look that concerned in her life, but then again, it wasnβt like she knew him that well, but it wasβ¦a welcomed reactionβ¦maybe.
ββ¦save meβ¦β
And she passed out.

(Note: another word vomit chapter. This was written on two separate days and my thought was kinda jumbled, please bear with me. Also sorry for the late update, life happened.)
The ride to the hospital had been nerve-wracking. Y/N spent most of the ride looking over at Jake lying on a stretcher. His eyes were closed, but that didnβt make him less injured. She remembered the instructions that were given to help with Jakeβs injury, and while she was applying pressure on the wound, Jake had passed out.
That had been over 20 minutes ago. She had just arrived at the hospital, her legs quivering as she sat in the waiting area outside in the hall, waiting to hear some decent news about Jake.
Fortunately, she didnβt need to wait too long, because soon after, the doctor came out of the operation room with a smile on her face. And she was told that while Jake had sustained a serious injury, it was not life-threatening. He was going to make a full recovery.
Thank goodness.
With all that said and done, Y/N could breathe easy. But that didnβt mean what had happened could just be waved off as an isolated incident, because after all, all this happened because of her. And Jake was only doing what he could to protect her.
He was willing to go the extra mile for herβand she was going to do the same. No longer will she just sit idly by and let her stalker walk all over her was what she decided, and she was determined to sort this out. If she didnβt take the reins of this herself, who knew who else could be hurt from this?
And that was why, not even a week after the break-in, she was sitting in the police station with Jake, who was discharged from the hospital a day prior.
To be fair, she told him he should stay home or stay at the hospital to recuperate some more, but Jake was determined to go with her. She was worried for him, but he was so persuasive about the whole thingβ
βI canβt just let you go alone,β he said, βit wouldnβt sit right with me.β
The whole reason the case was even moving forward was that Jake had been a victim of an assault, and there was physical evidence of trauma, as well as evidence of foul play. βIt would work,β the police officers taking their statements told them, βwe have an obligation to at least check it out, even if it was an open-and-shut case.β
The problem, though, lied with the fact that this wasnβt an open-and-shut case. The perpetratorβs identity was unknown, and from the description that Y/N had given in her statement, it wasnβt really conclusive. But the police had worked on cases with fewer leads.
Well, at least in television shows and movies, right? Although the lack of plot armour seemed to dim the chances, but regardless. It was what it was.
She waved the worries from her mind and focused on the current situation. Whatever happened would happen, and she would do everything she could to prevent any more tragedies from happening.
βHi, you are miss Y/N and mister Jake, right?β
This was when Y/N met the young genius detective for the first time. And boy, was he stunning.
βIβm Chris, and Iβm the detective assigned to your case.β
Though the initial attraction was clear, Y/N willed herself to focus on the task at handβnow was not the time to get caught up with feelings.
βH, hi,β she started, albeit nervously. βThank you for investigating this caseβ¦β
Chris offered a courteous smile, and extended his hand towards Y/N, gesturing for a handshake, which she took.
βItβs our job.β
The three were brought to a small meeting room, where he was given a general briefing of the situation. Along with some of the initial statements and preliminary findings that were gleaned from the status of the two victims of the assault, he asked both Y/N and Jake for their statements again, but this time, in further detail.
βAnything you remember that might not have been mentioned previously,β Chris said, offering them two glasses of water. βAnything could be important. Sometimes the initial recall might not be as complete as youβd like because of trauma, so, Iβd like to just question you two again, just to get the story straight.β
Y/N swallowed her nerves and nodded.
βW, well, I didnβt know what was happening because it was late at night, and, I woke up in the middle of the night and there was someone in my room,β she recalled. βI think he broke in somehow.β
Chris nodded and gestured for her to continue.
βUm, he was just staring so creepily at meβI thinkβit was so dark, I couldnβt see him, but I think he was wearing a mask of some sort, I mean, you would be able to see facial features at that close of a range, right? But then I didnβt, so I knew I was in trouble.β
Y/N look down and breathed out, trying to calm her nerves. βBut then he muffled me with his hand so I bit him and screamed out for Jake, and that was when Jake came into my room to help. I didnβt even realize the person who broke in was carrying a weapon until it was too late andβ¦β
Suddenly, the room felt like it was ready to swallow her alive. Though it had been a few days since the incident happened, it felt as though it was happening as she spoke. How did she manage to get through the initial questioning, she wondered to herself.
Ah, right, she had broken down a few times that day.
A voice cut through her jumbled thoughts, and she looked up at the detective sitting across from her, and then at Jake, sitting next to her.
She needed to do this.
βIt just happened so fast, and before I could even react, the person who broke in had already stabbed Jake, and there was just so much blood...β
If there was one thing in her life that she feared more than her friends getting hurt, it was the sight of blood. Despite enjoying her fair share of horror movies, the sight of actual blood that came as a result of her friends getting hurt made her extremely squeamish.
Jake decided to cut in, hoping to shed more light and perhaps offer more insight into the case.
βActually, detective, thereβs something else you should know about the situation,β Jake stated.
βOh?β
βYeah,β Jake added. βY/Nβs been the victim of stalking for a while before this incident. We tried filing a report, but nothing came of it.β
Chrisβs eyes narrowed at Jakeβs subtle accusatory tone, but chose to hold his tongue out of civility. Perhaps Jake was testing the waters, but Chris had a feeling that this was only the beginning of a pretty messy lawsuit if it went sideways. And as much as he hated to sit in on open-and-shut cases, he would rather partake in the easiest and most obvious cases than dwell on court cases.
Not to mention the hit on the policeβs already unfavourable outlook.
βAre you saying that the two cases are connected?β There was a tone of challenge in the detectiveβs voice.
Was this a declaration of war?
βYes, itβs undeniably clear that theyβre connected,β Jake countered.
Chris leaned back in his chair, seemingly very unsettled by the accusatory tone, and while he understood the reason Jake said what he said, it was ultimately up to the higher-ups what actions the police officers could take. If they had just acted on these tips with no concrete evidence, they could open themselves up for a major lawsuitβand that would be a pain.
Chris understood the flaws in the system, but⦠his hands were tied, and acting on his own could very well cause more harm than good, even if it led to favourable conclusions, more often than not. Damn.
But Chris was not an out-of-the-box thinker in the precinct for no reason. He was willing to go that extra mile, and willing to expose himself to harm just for justice to be served, as cheesy as it sounded.
So he decided to bite the bullet.
βWhat makes you think so?β
There was a heavy pause.
βThe stalker had been harassing her for a long time via presents and text messages,β Jake said.
It had been so weak. Jake knew this, too. He had the same train of thought days ago when the texts came. There was no way the police would take them seriously. But that was then, and this was now. The situation had escalated to this extent, and he just knew that the same person who was harassing Y/N was behind the break-in, too.
But in the context of the break-in, it might be the vital piece of information needed to tie things together. And as much as Jake hated to admit it, he wished he had convinced Y/N to keep the packages that were sent to her.
No use crying over spilt milk now. He was going to take what he could get. And if that meant he was going to become the butt of the police's jokes during morning coffee time, then so be it. He did what he could.
But it seemed like what he said had paid off, at least for now.
βShow me.β
Jake stared at Y/N and gestured for her to show the detective the texts she had received. And after carefully looking over the contents, Chris abruptly stood up, and walked out of the meeting room, leaving Y/N and Jake to sit inside, wondering what would become of them.
Twenty minutes later, Chris re-entered the room.
βLetβs examine the crime scene, then.β
And alongside him was another young man, who looked slightly fidgety. But as soon as he had made eye contact with Y/N, he smiled warmly and offered his hand.
βIβm Yeonjun. Iβve been asked to go with detective Bang on the case.β
According to Chris, the scene of the crime had lined up with what both Y/N and Jake had said earlier, both the young police officer, Yeonjun, and the detective had noticed some clues that could be useful to the case.
It had been abundantly clear to Chris that this was no longer an open-and-shut case, as he had assumed earlier. However, with the lack of concrete evidence as to the identity of the perpetrator, he had very little to go on but proceeded with the case anyway.
He had seen thousands of harassment cases, and he knew that this was almost textbookβperhaps the most common form of stalking. But something didnβt sit right with him. He wasnβt sure whether it was because of Y/N herself, or because of the underlying circumstances, butβ¦
β¦ he would see this one through to the end, he decided.
And this was further proven true when Captain Choi called him to his office later that evening.
Seemed like Yeonjun had also been asked to sit in with them.
βAh, youβre here,β the captain called, gesturing for Chris to close the door behind him. βGood, both of you are here, then.β
Chris took a seat across from the captain.
βIβll get straight to the point,β Captain Choi said, looking rather grim.
βIβm not entirely certain, but something about this case didnβt sit right with me when it was brought to my attention a few days ago, but I have a feeling that this is a part of something more.β
Yeonjun, who sat on the couch against the wall, straightened his back. He had seen his brother look serious, but not like this. He knew his brother, and despite not being as close, he knew his brother had a keen instinct.
βI believe this case might be connected to a murder case that went cold ten years ago,β he said. βWe never solved it.β

(Note: warnings of blood, mentions of gore, and a reallllly creepy dude. Also, I'm extremely sorry for the word vomit. And incoherency. My brain is a little fried.
Moreover, unlike the previous chapters, this one has an omniscient narrator. )
Deep in the night, when people had long retired to their sleeping quarters, one house was riddled with faint scratching noises.
Someone was breaking into Y/Nβs home.
Slowly, the man slipped in through the crack before the door was shut closed, all of which was done quietly to avoid confrontation.
Slowly, the man slipped in through the crack before the door was shut closed, all of which was done quietly to avoid confrontation.
He made his way up the stairs, being overly careful not to wake the two occupants in the house, as he searched for the door to Y/Nβs room.
He passed by the guest roomβthe stalker recalled that Y/Nβs best friend, Jake, had been staying over. It was knowledge he gained from an anonymous source, but regardless. He clicked his tongue faintly as he expressed his displeasure at what he had seen.
He initially did not harbour any ill feelings towards Jake, but with the current turn of events, it had been hard for him to act on his desires. Sometimes he wondered whether he should go inside and suffocate the boy to deathβthat would eliminate further barriers between him and Y/N.
He should. He really should.
But that was not his goal today. He had an important task to do, and the faster he got it done, the better.
With one last look at the boy who escaped his ill fate, he closed the door and made his way to Y/Nβs room.
This was why he was here today.
He pushed the door open, and immediately, he was met with a scene that made his heart swell. Y/N looked like an angel, and it probably didnβt help that her hair was spread out on her pillow, forming a halo above her head.
Of course, she was his angel, and his angel only.
He crept into her room, closing the door behind him, and slowly made his way to her bedside, where he could stare at her up close. In his view, she was ethereal. She was the epitome of an angel descended to earth. He so desperately wanted to cradle her in his armsβto kiss away all her worries.
Everything he did, he did for her. All for her. Why couldnβt she understand that?
He leaned towards her and moved a stray hair from her face. His expression stiffened when she stirred, but to his surprise and relief, she did not wake up.
He knew this day would comeβa day when he would whisk her away to his home, where he would make her his wife, his muse, his sole reason for living. And as the desire inside of him increased, he knew he had to swiftly carry out his duty. That way, he could claim her as his own.
Surely, she would be moved by his actions. He would profess his undying love for herβhe would!
It was pure euphoria, even the thought of her smiling in his direction when she would ultimately accept his hand.
He had to steel his resolve. And thus began his task.
Everything in her room was his to take, everything that belonged to her, he had to have. Every ribbon she tied her hair with, piece of clothing she had ever come into contact with, and every stray hair that had fallen from her head was sacred to him.
But one would not just take and not give.
Yes, he, too, had a present for her. It was a symbol of his devotion, the sign of his eternal love for her.
He would shower her with dolls and stuffed animalsβhe was sure she would love them. It wasnβt impractical, like the roses he had given her a month prior. No. And though her denial of his initial affections caused him to go slightly insane, he reasoned with himself that the gifts were simply not practical.
Surely she would sleep with the dolls that he gave her?
The stalker stared at her again, and felt, yet again, the desperate need to be right beside her. Yes, he would fantasize about her while he watched her.
Forget about his task for todayβhe needed to be beside her.
But the moment was short-lived when his hand came into contact with her face, and her eyes snapped open.
His expression was frozen stiff. He had to do something to keep her from screaming.
He watched as her eyes widened, perhaps realizing what was happening, but before she could cry out, he slapped his hand over her mouth. This would do for now.
He was killing two birds with one stone. He had effectively silenced her temporarily, and, more importantly, he was touching her face.
He had always wanted to touch her face.
Surely, she would let him continue, yes? His identity was safe, as he remembered to wear a mask to cover his face, so the chance of her finding out who he was was almost impossible. This, and the fact that he was wearing dark clothes, made him blend in with the night. Factoring in the lack of visibility, and youβve got a fool-proof plan.
The stalker, though, had not considered that she would bite his hand to escape his hold.
He was so gentle with her, and this was what he got in return for his kindness? This was unacceptable. He needed to show her how much he truly loved her because if she wouldnβt willingly give herself to him, he would force herβeven if it was against her will.
Because it didnβt matter.
He made a grab at her again, but in the time he took to bounce back, she had let out a scream.
Before he had a chance to react, her door was slammed open completely, and in the entrance stood Jake. Even in the darkness, he could tell that Jake was on high alert.
β¦with a bat in hand.
The stalker had prepared a pocket knife just in case, but he didnβt know that it would actually come in handyβthe blade that he had prepared to cut a lock of her hair with would ultimately be a tool to defend himself.
Luckily, Y/N had not seen the knife for now. This would make it easier for him to kill two birds with one stone, yet again. Perhaps he would actually eliminate Jake right then, right there. It would make for a wonderful photo, after all.
Him, Y/N, and perhaps the mangled corpse of her best friend.
Y/N might actually change her mind after that.
What he hadnβt expected was the fact that Jake was actually rather good at dodging his lunges. And by the way Jake was moving, he must have realized that the intruder had more than just his fists to fight off a bat-wielding boy.
But, no matter. It was all trivial. He would get what he wanted, even if he would have to sacrifice a limb to get it.
βJakeβ! Heβs got a knife!β
Y/Nβs sudden exclamation had caught both of them off guard, but Jake, who quickly recovered from Y/Nβs sudden outburst, swung at the intruder with all the power he had.
With little time to react, the man blocked the blow, and it was painful. Very painful. It would be hard to recover from this. But there was a time and a place for everything, and right now, all the intruder thought about was how he would drive the knife into Jakeβs chest. Or stomach. Or anywhere else that would cause Jake excruciating pain.
An eye for an eye, of course.
With that thought in mind, he attacked. What followed was blood. A lot of blood.
Jake howled in pain as he felt the knife pierce his shoulder, but with all the strength he had left, he kicked the intruder away, and that was when he felt the knife forcibly pulled from his wound. Nothing was stopping the flow of blood now.
Tension was high. Perhaps the stalker knew that there was little else he could accomplish that night, so he smashed her window open with the closest item and disappeared into the night.
The threat had been eliminated, but Jake wasnβt any less hurt from the experience.
And there was so much blood.
Without a moment to spare, she grabbed her phone and called the police. She needed to get them involved now.
For her sake, and for Jakeβs.

ββ ππ’ππ π¬π’π¨π₯ ππ₯πππ§π ββ 07 What should have been
It took one scream for Jake to come running down the stairs into the living room, just about ready to pounce at anything that moved. When his eyes landed on Y/N, she looked like she wanted to become a part of the wall, by the way she was digging herself into the living room corner.
He made his way towards her, almost trying to convince her not to continue digging herself into the corner. By the way she was shaking when he held on to her, he figured she must have seen something horrifying.
That wasnβt the only thing out of place. He had heard something fall in the living room, and when he looked around, trying to locate what could have made the sound, he found her phone on the floor, looking rather abandoned. Although he was still holding on to his best friend, he could clearly see the shards of glass scattered around the phone itself. No doubt that Y/N has stopped the phone in shock.
βIβm gonna go grab that phone,β Jake started to say, while reluctantly letting go of her.
But before he could succeed, she suddenly grabbed his arm, refusing to let go. βDβ¦ donβtβ¦β
βDonβt look at itβ¦β
He was confused. Why?
βY/N?β
Just when he thought her grip couldnβt be tighterβ
βDonβt lookβ¦β
And yet, it seemed like she was afraid not just for herself, but for him, as well. Regardless of what happened, he was going to protect her, and if it meant putting himself in harm's way, then so be it.
If it meant that he could share some of her trauma, then so be it.
He was her best friend, and she meant the world to him. Always did, always will.
He pressed a reassuring kiss on her forehead, and whispered, "it's going to be ok."
She seemed to relax slightly, and he took this as a go-ahead for the phone she had previously asked not to look at.
Y/N still looked visibly disturbed, and yetβwhat was important this time was the fact that the look wasnβt directed at him, but rather, at the semi-shattered phone Jake held in his hand.
After unlocking the screen, he could understand why. The incessant messages that bombarded her phone were not only unwarranted, but also deeply disturbing. Jake could feel his own anger boiling over, and the contents of the messages were nauseating.
Disgusting.
What started as a message with a creepy undertone quickly escalated to obsessive rambling, and ultimately, compulsive anger.
Not only was this person mentally unstableβbut the stalker was also smart. Or seemingly so, anyway. Jake couldnβt even remember any time in Y/Nβs life that could possibly warrant this sort of behaviour.
If Jake took this to the police, wouldnβt they just hand it back to him, telling him that there was nothing the police could do? Unsolicited texts were, unfortunately, very common, and it wasnβt like the police could actually do with the limited amount of information. In addition, if Y/N were to face backlash, wouldnβt he be the one to put her there?
Damn.
However, there was no harm in filing a police report. That was for sure.
And as he zoned back in, Jake promptly removed the SIM card. He toggled the airplane mode onβno more incoming messages. This should take care of a few things for now.
βLetβs get rid of this phone,β Jake started to say, as Y/N slowly lift her head. βWeβll get you a new one along with a SIM card so you wonβt have to deal with the same number.β
Although Y/N was in no position to speak much, she managed to nod.
ββ¦thanks, Jake.β
The calls just kept on going to voicemail.
Ah, how feisty. How playful. How entertaining. Like a game of cat and mouse, perhaps. He could feel his heart palpitate with excitement.
He had to keep his behaviour in check. Yesβhe should. Perhaps he should go at this differently. He unconsciously rubbed the crack on his phoneβs screen, conjuring up a new plan.
ββ ππ’ππ π¬π’π¨π₯ ππ₯πππ§π ββ 06 False sense of security
When Y/Nβs phone pinged, she thought nothing of it. It was normal for her phone to go off sometimes when her friends were texting in their group chat.
However, it didnβt stop there.
One text alert became two, then three, and then four. The texts just kept on coming. And though her friends talk a lot, this felt different.
And then, suddenly, it all came to an abrupt stop. No more notifications. Just radio silence.
Just what made her phone go off like that?
She got her answer when she picked up the phone.
In a span of three minutes, she had received 16 text messages from an unknown number.
Unknown number? If she had given her number to someone recently, she would be able to recall, but the only person who came to mind was Sunghoon. And Sunghoon was already on her contact list, so it couldnβt be him.
So, who? Who else would text her so late at night?
Hesitantly, she opened the messages in question andβ
βher phone fell to the ground with a sickening crack.
Before she realized what was happening, a blood-curdling scream tore from her throat.

It seemed like an eternity had passed since y/n last moved. What transpired had instilled a sense of fear in her, and the thought that she could possibly be watched at any given moment made her physically sick.
Everything around her felt utterly unreal to her.
How was she supposed to move forward, knowing that the safe and secure environment that she had built for herself was utterly violated and broken into?
She⦠should do something. Anything. Anything would be ok, anything would do. Anything other than sitting on her butt in the middle of her kitchen.
When her world refocused, the package was the first thing she saw. Calming her nervesβat least to the best of her abilitiesβshe shoved everything back into the box, roses and all, and closed it. It would be best to not have the items sitting right in front of her, she thought.
She trudged her way out of the kitchen and upstairs to her bedroom. On the way there, she made a conscious choice to avoid all the windows in case anything freaked her out. Luckily, she had forgotten to open her blinds and windows in her room that morning, and she was able to settle down on her bed without fear of being seen.
At this point, the only thing she had was that she really didnβt want to be alone.
The sun had not yet set completelyβshe could call Jake to ask him to come over. It wasnβt unreasonable, right? It was only a 20-minute drive from his house to hers, and she could even ask him to stay over since she had a spare bedroom.
But her phone was still in her kitchen downstairs. And she really did not want to walk downstairs to get it. If she had missed calls or unanswered texts, she could deal with that tomorrow.
So she picked up the landline in her room and dialled Jakeβs number, the one number she had memorized by heart other than her parentsβ numbers.
And he picked up on the first ring.
βHey, is everything ok?β
Y/N probably knew that Jake somehow understood that something wasnβt exactly right, because she rarely called him from her landline. The concern in his voice allowed her to relax for the first time that day.
But she couldnβt leave him hanging. After all, she called him.
βJakeβ¦ could you please come overβ¦?β As best as she could, she tried to keep the shakiness out of her voice, but it seemed like Jake had caught on.
βIβll be right overβ!β
The sound of rustling could be heard before he hung up. And before long, Jake was outside her door.
At first unwilling to leave her position, she slowly made her way downstairs, and after making sure that it was Jake outside her door, she let him in.
There was a moment of silence between the two before he spoke up, asking her why she seemed so distraught.
This was Jakeβher best friend and the one person, other than her parents, she would tell everything to. The one friend who had been through thick and thin with her from childhood till now. Someone like a brother to her.
And as he sat beside her, patiently waiting for her explanation, she finally spoke up and gestured towards the kitchen, where the box sat on her counter.
βDoβ¦ do you remember the package I received last week?β
Jake thought for a moment and then nodded, gesturing for her to continue. ββ¦ the one with the flowers?β
There was yet another pause. Y/N nodded.
βI think Iβm being watchedβ¦β
The look of concern on Jakeβs face was immediately replaced with one of fury.
βWhat do you mean, watched?β He asked. βDid you get something from that person again?β
Y/N nodded, and hesitantly pushed the box towards Jake. βItβs in hereβ¦β
Jake grabbed the box from the counter and hastily opened the top, where the bouquet sat. She heard him suck in a breath, and for a long time, he paused, as the look of disgust marred his face.
And the roses were promptly tossed in the nearby trash with a satisfying thump.
The next thing was the cardβY/N remembered tossing the card in with its envelope inside the box, and now, it was just sitting at the bottom of the box, slightly opened.
That, too, was tossed, though Jake made sure to look over the contents before ripping the card in half beforehand, vertically down the centre.
Just pure anger on his faceβthat was all Y/N could see.
βWhat kind of sick bastard does this?β
She, too, would like to know the answer to that question. She had done nothing to warrant this kind of behaviour, and though she hated to admit it, she had done nothing out of the ordinary or even over-the-top to garner any unwanted attention.
Well, aside from this unwanted strange maybe-stalking. Maybe.
She couldnβt even remember the last time she had attended a partyβaside from the ones that she threw with just Jake, Sooji, and Soobin.
She hadnβt even realized that she had, once again, retreated into her thoughts until Jake spoke up again.
βIβll take you to school from now on,β he said. βWhether this is some sick prank someone is playing on you or a case of stalking, Iβm not taking any chances.β
Y/N looked up for the second time since Jakeβs arrival and managed out a slow but relieved βthank you.β
He pulled her close to him and hugged her, trying to give her assurance.
βItβs going to be okay, Y/N. Iβll keep you safe.β
Somewhere in a darkroom, a faint red glow could be seen from a flickering safelight. From what could be made out with the only light source in the room, a pile of store-bought cards sat neatly stacked in a corner.
Developing photographs hung on a string held up with a clothespin. As time passed, the photos became clearer, and only one person could be seen on them.
Jake. In his car. Getting out of his car. Walking up the steps of a house, knocking on the door of the said house.
ββ ππ’ππ π¬π’π¨π₯ ππ₯πππ§π ββ 03 The package
The knock on the door took Y/N by surprise. She wasnβt expecting any visitors, and she knew for a fact she was not expecting any packages, either.
So she hesitantly made her way to her door after telling her friends that she had heard knocking, and looked through the peephole to see who was outside. To her surprise, there was nothing.
That was strange.
She slowly unlocked the door and upon opening it, the only thing that sat immediately outside was a package. Even stranger. The package, however, was not, by its outward appearance, anything spectacular. It looked very ordinary, almost irritatingly so. There was no senderβjust an address to indicate where the package should be delivered to. Peculiar still, was the fact that there was absolutely nothing else that gave any indication as to who the sender might be.
She picked up the package, and almost immediately, she could tell that there wasnβt much content in the box. Though there were some rustling sounds, it really could be anything. Upon tilting the box, there was a faint thumpβas though something had slid from its original position to the tilted side of the box. Then she slowly tilted the box in the opposite direction, andβthe sound was present again.
What was it?
She had closed the door at this point and made her way back into her kitchen. With little effort, she opened up the box and was greeted with a bouquet.
Roses, in fact.
Something inside of her head clicked. The roses from a few days agoβthe ones she threw away because she thought it was from Jake but ultimately wasnβt. Plus, the roses werenβt in the best condition, considering that they were in a boxβ
Who sent bouquets inside boxes, anyway?
βhowever, the strangest thing was not the existence of the roses, but the envelope that accompanied them.
And on the surface of the envelope were the words, in a typed font:
βDear Y/Nβ
If the alarms in her head werenβt going off earlier, it definitely was now. Regardless, still, no reason to panic. There was someone in the world who knew who she was. Not too alarmingβ¦
β¦but her gut was telling her a different tale that evening.
(Here is the thing about y/n. Sheβs friendly, caring, and quite interactive with people she meets, and she can generally remember peopleβs faces if sheβs met them before, or at least she will remember if someone left a big impression. And sheβs sure that either she or her friends will be able to pick up on some clues that someoneβs overly friendly with her.
Right?)
Yet, the previous package also came with an envelope accompanied by a generic card inside. This one was the same.
And like the previous one, the tab was tucked in and not sealed.
Once the card was outβit turned out to be another generic βIβve missed youβ card found in every card shopβ
The creepiness of the entire situation slightly lessens.
But then she opened the card.
And she had to stop herself from screaming.
Inside, the card read:
βIβve sent you roses again. I hope you wonβt throw them out like last time.β
Note: in the fourth screenshot, (the one containing two meme images,) is a little cut-off, but the top image is sent by Sooji and the bottom image is sent by Soobin. Sorry for the inconvenience!

September. The month when people bid farewell to fond memories of summer and embraced the season of harvest. Although coincidentally, it was also the month when educators welcomed students back into the classroom.
From the day she got her schedule for her second year at university, y/n knew it was going to be a pain. Although she had picked no electives during her first year, she was told that she needed to pick one to satisfy her graduation requirements. The counsellor who helped with her scheduling told her it was better to have that done and out of the way before her third- and fourth-year rolled around. That way, it would lessen her workload for heavier courses, and she took that advice to heart.
Her two friends, Sooji and Soobin, whom she had met in her first year at the university, were also in a similar situation and decided that they would all take the same course to help each other out. Sooji, the resident law student in their group, suggested that they all take entry-level criminology. Though both y/n and Soobin had reservations, the three of them agreed and reworked their schedule to accommodate the new course load.
That was nearly two months ago.
Fast forward to the first week of classes. y/n already felt like she was going to hate this schedule.
However, that week, she had also met Minho Lee. He was the professor in charge of the entry-level criminology class that she had taken, along with her two friends, Sooji and Soobin.
By the next week, she had already figured out what kind of professor he was: a hard marker, (far more than her other classes,) but an extremely dedicated person who made sure that students who had trouble with his classes were not left confused.
This class that they had taken also came with a tutorial sessionβthat was where she, along with the rest of the students, met the teaching assistant. Heeseung was, like professor Lee, very accommodating and overall friendly with the students.
Despite her busy schedule, y/n did well in all of her second-year classes, and without realizing it, a year had passed by.
Before she knew it, y/n was sitting with her education counsellor, planning her schedule for third-year. This time, she was taking more specialized classes that were available to her, and she left the counsellorβs office feeling relatively relievedβat least for the time being.
Sooji had told y/n beforehand that she was going to be taking more specialized law classes, and the three of them wouldnβt be able to have a lot of time together like the years before. Soobin, being the resident psychology major, kept on taking his courses as usual.
The three friends promised to meet up now and then to unwind, knowing that they would become busier following the start of the new semester.
y/n had a good feeling about her future. Her third year was just around the corner, and she was prepared. She wasnβt worriedβafter all; she had a whole life ahead of her.
However, what she didnβt count on was the appearance of one unpredictable variable, and before she could make sense of what happened to her, it thrust her into a world of chaos.
And it all started with one package sitting on her doorstep.
