Tobio doesn’t have Shoyo as a teammate anymore, but that’s okay bc he’s got so many amazing players dancing to his tune. He’s having so much fun as a setter, playing with everyone.

Still, I wouldn’t consider any of the Adlers players as a replacement for Shoyo tho

Unlike popular opinions, Hinata isn’t a replacement for Osamu either. He’s been in Brazil for most of his professional career, not necessarily by atsumu’s side.

If anything the closest thing Atsumu has to a replacement is probably Bokuto “I want your 120%” Kotarou

and Sakusa “he’ll see things through to the end” Kiyoomi.

They’ve been in the same club for much longer anyway, unlike Hinata who left MSBY after barely a season.

Besides, you don’t just replace a bond like that. Yes, Osamu doesn’t play professionally anymore, but he’s not dead. He still supports Atsumu.

I won’t deny that Hinata also makes volleyball fun for Miya, just like Hoshiumi and the others make it fun for Kageyama.

But I wouldn’t consider them replacements for bonds that took years to build either on the court or in their personal lives.

and I understand the kageyama isn’t the only one who can do the quick narrative.

something something about hinata finding comfort in atsumu after losing his first partner but the thing is shoyo never really lost tobio, not really and what kageyama is to him, atsumu or anyone else can’t replace, they can’t fulfill. This goes for hoshiumi too

I really do talk about tobio/kghn so passionately a lot don’t I??? Lmaooo 😭😭😭 I think it all started back in 2021 when I created an acc on TikTok just bc I felt like they weren’t getting the appreciation they deserved there. Since then I started defending tobio online and talking abt kghn more and more like it's my one purpose in life sksjsbjgf

also bc he would have done the exact same thing.

He would sneak into a camp uninvited, he would go to Brazil just to learn and get better at the sport. He’s just as driven, just as dedicated he simply had more opportunities. As in the chance to start playing vb and working towards his goals earlier.

I know the whole natural talent vs hard work discourse in this fandom gets tired so I’d like to avoid talking about it further but I still wonder how do so many people underestimate how dedicated Kageyama is to volleyball

I do think the fandom is aware that kageyama is a volleyball freak but many don’t see him as inspiring in the same way they view characters like Hinata or Oikawa because his story isn’t told through an underdog perspective.

He succeeds really young and continues to succeed even bigger which often gets read as being handed things on a silver platter rather than perseverance.

In contrast we see oikawa struggle “for longer” he doesn’t make it to nationals, he doesn’t get everything he desires. So the audience feel for him, they project onto him. They admire him for “working harder” precisely because he doesn’t get to win until the very end.

Kageyama gets to Nationals, he becomes an Olympian at 19, wins countless time with his team. He even get to achieve his dreams of becoming Japan’s best duo with hinata when Iwaoi could never (I’m joking but not really)

seriously tho tobio’s success shouldn’t make his story any less compelling than Oikawa’s especially since they are basically two sides of the same coins. if you think oikawa’s arc is amazingly done? well…

More importantly the same qualities that people admire tooru so much for are traits tobio carries as well : they are both resilient, passionate, determined etc etc

Yes tobio has an advantage of playing vb since he was basically 0 years old but he also had a very challenging childhood, went though so much isolation and rejections, from not having anyone to keep up with him to losing his support system to his teammates abandoning him but he never once became discouraged or thought about giving up.

He always shows up at the gym to practice every single time despite EVERYTHING he went through.

It’s only a fair to note that Oikawa had his own kind of privilege. He always had his childhood friend by his side and never experienced the same kind of loneliness tobio did.

Kageyama’s serves are so amazing and that’s because it’s one of the few skills he could practice completely on his own. He became so good at serving because he didn’t have anyone to practice everything else with.

Oikawa also is naturally charismatic which makes it easier for him to communicate and connect with any of his teammates… a huge advantage for a setter and that’s something Kageyama inherently lacked. He had to work hard to develop those skills.

Technically shoyo fall first bc of this moment right. Seeing the cape and crown without even knowing anything about the king of the court??? that’s some soulmate shoujo manga type of situation

But people tends to treat the trope like one is more in love with the other especially the character who falls harder and I don’t like that.

tho I understand why in some ships character A has to fall first, character B has to fall harder but with Kagehina you can always switch the roles and it works just as perfectly bc the infatuation and interest is mutual since the very first episode

Sometimes Kageyama looks like the one who’s been totally bewitched by Hinata and other times it’s shoyo who’s not normal about tobio.

Kageyama likely developed feelings first he’s very in tune with how he feels and waits for shoyo to catch up. Personally I think he subconsciously thought of shoyo as his “someone better” since that first meeting on the stairs when shoyo vowed to spend years chasing after him.

meanwhile for hinata It’s more of a sudden moment of realization where it all clicked.

I have two moment which I picked in canon where the “oh OH” moment could happen

but I like to think that during his time in Brazil, being away from Kageyama made him realize just how much he cared, as the distance and yearning helped him acknowledge the feelings that had always been there.

Listen I’m not too fond of the portrayal of shoyo just being chased by some setter. Yes he’s charmingly lovable and should be adored but he himself also has so much love to give. So much yearning so much devotion… ignoring that isn’t doing his character justice.

It really does make perfect sense that if he didn’t get to meet kageyama. He wouldn’t have gone pro!

That aside…. Kageyama looking at tsukkiyama quitting the team broke my heart but It also makes perfect sense that without shoyo by his side kageyama didn’t achieve his dreams. THEY NEEDED EACH OTHER

we’ve been knew Hinata most likely wouldn’t have flourished in any other team the way he did at Karasuno, they were the perfect fit for him.

But what makes the chapter even more special to me is that, out of all the options he was given, he chooses Karasuno. He chooses Kageyama. he didn’t want to leave him in the first place??

Idk I love the /choice/ of it all because

well yeah the abusive allegations has more to do with people viewing hinata as a damsel in distress than Kageyama being “violent”

iwa and the twins aside (I’m sure they were the ones you were referring to lol) hinata also has those tendencies but he looks like a cute gremlin half the time even Tobio isn’t phased

I don’t think aggressive is the right word to use because it has negative connotations but it’s true that Tobio can look extremely serious/angry and be very hands on

he has a very physical way of expressing himself like when he gets frustrated he doesn’t hesitate to grab, shove or hit Hinata just to get him to be calm or be polite to strangers lol

but they’re teenage boys and it’s all mutual not an issue at all. If hinata had an issue with it he would SAY SOMETHING and tell him to stop.

besides I genuinely believe hinata could have won that fight if Tanaka didn’t stop them in time

On the surface level It essentially means that while Kageyama struggled as a kid to find players at his level, in the future he will eventually meet others who are even more skilled.

as Tobio himself improves at vb he’ll get to play against monsters who are just as good (or even better) allowing him to compete at full strength without holding back

Unlike when he was a kid where he had to go easy on his opponents just to extend his time on the court and keep playing a little longer.
