[The taller of the two seems much more upset than usual today. In fact, she hasn't smiled once. Nothing to smile about, it seems.]

[She scrunches in on himself as he walks out to the car in toe of her best friend. The one forcing her to do the one thing she doesn't want to do: go home. Home is an awful place, he knows, full of things that what her dead. The more she had come to learn, the more it cemented that he should never go home.]

[But he goes anyways.]

[Chloe keeps their hands uneasily on the wheel. Every now and then, they look over to Joel, worry fluffed over her face.]

"Joel," [she eventually murmurs, worry etched into their voice,] "Are you sure you're okay? Because, like... You've been quiet all drive," [they go on. The car pulls to a stop on a corner, and they devote her whole attention, for a moment, to her best friend.]

[She's scared... anxious, worried. But that doesn't mean they can stop driving.]

[Their friend seems to not even hear them at first, simply content with staring out the window glassily. When she realizes the car is no longer moving, he turns wearily to the driver. She tilts her head at Chlo's expression.]

"Huh? Oh, I'm fine, I guess." [she assures. It's a hollow statement, said with an ice cold edge. Their glasses are still broken.] "Just... waiting to get back home." [A shudder scurries through her as he says that word. She doesn't want to go home.]

[Chloe looks, unconvinced, at Joel before signing and nodding. It isn't worth it to fight—if Joel wants to talk, she will. Chloe will get nowhere by pushing him, and they know that.]

"Well... We'll be back soon," [they assure, because they think it's what he wants to hear. It's not at all, but how could Chloe know that? All that's on their mind is helping.]

[The car starts up again, and they're only about ten minutes away from Joel's cousin's house.]
