It’s not news anymore that since several months ago, millions of workers have been forced to take unpaid leave, discharged, or even laid off. Bagirata is an Indonesia-based platform that aids the financial conditions of workers impacted by the lockdown. I’m participating in its program titled ‘100 Ilustrator Melawan Pandemi’ (roughly translated; 100 Illustrators Against The Pandemic) in which I’m given the honor to retell one of the workers’ stories into a comic.

A Stranger in A Strange Land

I, who made this comic, am not a Papuan. Therefore, I don't know how it feels like to be terribly treated for my race on everyday basis. As a fellow human, I try to understand their feelings by reading and listening to stories from Papuan students who study in Java, from various sources, and this comic tries to retell the stories. ⁣ Don't ever forget, that to this day, racism is still an everyday occurrence to Papuans in Indonesia. It happens in our own neighborhood, done by our own people, and perhaps ourselves. ⁣ Thanks to @delouisyane (Amel) who's willing to share her stories to me. Thanks to @papuaitukita for the efforts to voice issues surrounding Papua, and for introducing me to Amel.
