After being brought to Japan by Karlheinz, the man set them up in a manor he owned. With this came some maids, butlers, and a personal chef. Ruki was accustomed to this and easily took to it. However, the same couldn't be said for the other brothers. Azusa was mostly all right, but kept asking the staff to hurt him ( much to their discomfort ). Yuuma, having issues with artistocrats, would start arguments over them with the staff. And Kou was terrified of having unknown adults in the manor. He would often hide behind Ruki out of fear. Even if the staff only worked for the rich, it still presented issues.

Ruki decided it would be best to request that the staff leave. After they did, Ruki learned from a young age how to cook so he could cook meals for them. He even began to teach them self-efficacy ( which Yuuma was already accustomed to ). Ruki and Azusa were the two who had the easiest time learning how to cook. However, Azusa rarely gets to for his brothers since he overspices everything. Yuuma is ok at it, but because of surviving on the streets, he tends to forget to chop vegetables and meat up, which can make them difficult to eat in certain dishes. And sometimes he undercooks the meat. Kou doesn't know how to cook, and even when taught by Ruki, he easily gets frustrated with it. It'll just take longer for him to get the hang of it. They rotate who shops for the ingredients ( and do use Yuuma's vegetables after he started gardening ). For a while, Kou was so scared and untrusting of adults that he couldn't go without one of his brothers. Azusa is usually fine, but Ruki does check-ins to make sure he isn't bothering anyone.

Ruki came from an aristocratic family. He briefly got to live that life and was not only afforded the opportunity at an education, but was also taught manners and basic everyday things that humans do. Kou, however, despite being born an artistocrat, was given up by his parents ( they couldn't continue to look after him ), and also abandoned by the maid who was supposed to care for him ( for supposedly the same reason ). He didn't have the same opportunities as Ruki. And even though the orphanage provided classes for the kids, Kou struggled to pay attention and couldn't always attend.

After meeting and bonding, Ruki took it upon himself to help Kou. He taught him how to properly dress. However, Kou struggles with buttons ( prefers clothes with none ), which is partly why his school uniform isn't worn to code ( and because it's stylish ). He also struggles with laces and prefers shoes without them ( hence his school boots ). Ruki also taught him to properly brush his teeth and hair, other hygiene basics, and even manners. Ranging from how to communicate with other people to table manners. Kou mostly ate with his hands until Ruki taught him how to use utensils ( possibly Azusa too ). Although sometimes Kou will still eat with his hands, it just depends on what the food is.

For quite a while, as a child, Kou was terrified of adults outside of Karlheniz ( and it was mostly attributed to the man actually saving them ). He couldn't be left alone with any adult, and he was one of the major reasons why Ruki had their staff dismissed at the manor. He tensed up around adults, got triggered when anyone referred to his appearance (especially if called beautiful). He often hid behind one of his brothers, especially Ruki. When he started having nightmares, Ruki was the first to try and soothe him because of their closer bond. He barely opened up about it, and when he did, he pretended like nothing was a big deal. Ruki felt he couldn't truly get through to him. Yuuma tried, but resorted to shouting to wake him after a while when talking didn't work. Azusa struggled with the emotional side, but tried in his own way to soothe him.

Because Ruki taught him the basics, saved him, and helped him when he was receiving an education, he became very important to him. He adores all of his brothers but feels closest to Ruki. Ruki tends to worry about Kou because with the flip of an invisible switch, he can go from kind or calm to angry and aggressive.

It's revealed that Yuuma's original name was Edgar and Kou's was Emilio. However, Azusa and Ruki never mention other names. I may be wrong, but I feel like they'd likely have original names too, so I have decided to do some research and choose my own. Ruki's original name was Severin ( seems to mean stern or serious ), and Azusa's would be Alexi ( seems to be a form of Alex, but I like that it seems common, given Azusa's background of being abandoned. I doubt much thought went into his name ). So:

Ruki: Severin Kou: Emilio Azusa: Alexi Yuuma: Edgar

There is no guarantee Ruki and Kou will reveal their former names, but if they choose to, it will only be with people they have built deep connections with and trust. Ruki will sternly ask you not to use his former name, as he prefers not to be associated with it anymore. Kou will likely lash out if you call him his due to his past trauma. Telling you doesn't grant automatic permission to use these names. Yuuma can't remember, so unless Shuu is involved, it likely won't come up. Even so, Yuuma has no interest in being Edgar anymore ( he merely wants to recover his memory ). And Azusa really doesn't care, but prefers Azusa. Compared to his brothers, he has the least negative association with it. I will be headcanoning that Karlheinz gave them these names after saving them.

After turning them into impure vampires, they likely stayed in Romania for at least another year, until they were able to control themselves as new vampires. When they went to Japan, Karlheniz told them they would have a greater purpose in due time, but first, he had them educated. They were home-schooled for a period of time. Possible chance they didn't attend with other students until they were in junior high.

As a child, Ruki was the most privileged and educated since he lived with his wealthy family for a time. Yuuma was likely educated too, but to a lesser degree. With Azusa being abandoned, I highly doubt that receiving an education was a high priority or easy. He may have learned things on the streets. Despite coming from an aristocratic family, Kou ( as far as I know ) is unaware of this. His parents gave him up since they couldn't care for him, and the maid who took him in was also unable to truly care for him. I really think he was likely undereducated, like Azusa. And due to Kou's mistreatment at the orphanage, even if they had a teaching program, he probably wasn't able to attend or retain much.

When the opportunity came, all four boys were finally able to learn to read and write. Ruki is the smartest of the Mukami's. He tutors his brothers if they need extra help and is a big reason why they never forgot how to speak Romanian. This may end up in another post about Kou, too, but Ruki is the one who taught Kou how to take care of himself, like brushing his hair, his teeth, dressing properly, and tying his shoes, among other things. I do believe Kou was Ruki's main student.

@macabremischief helped me with this verse. Karlheniz was a crazed man in life and grew much worse after being turned into a vampire. This transformation gave him a newfound purpose, an interest in experimenting with creating new beings.

The first woman he turned disappointed him when he discovered vampires aren't capable of bearing children. He quickly discarded her. He met a beautiful human woman named Beatrix. She birthed Shuu and Reiji. These were his first two sons. His next wife gave birth to the three triplets: Laito, Ayato, and Kanato ( the latter being a warlock because his mother is a witch ). And his last child, Subaru, was born, unfortunately, by Karlheniz's cousin Christa. When they were older, he turned all of his sons into vampires, starting with Shuu. Upon doing this, he discovered that once turned into a vampire, a warlock loses all of their magic. This kept him from ever turning Cordelia ( she created the sun rings for all of the sons and four additional ones for the others pulled into Karlheinz's craziness ). However, he eventually lost his wife, Cordelia, when her sons turned on her for her disgusting behavior, and Beatrix, when Reiji's jealousy towards Shuu's better treatment pushed him to kill her. Christa, having a mental breakdown, was locked away.

Karlheinz, a wealthy aristocrat, befriended Ruki's ( original name Severin ) father ( another aristocrat ) and compelled him into financial corruption. Ruki's father was killed, and his mother fled with her lover. Kou ( original name Emilio ) was born into an aristocratic family, but Karlheinz made that experience short-lived when he interfered in their lives. Not to mention the war in Romania was financially hurting families, and his parents had to give him up. The maid who took him in was compelled to abandon him not long after. Yuuma ( original name Edgar ) was a friend of Shuu's. He lived in a small village nearby. Karlheinz had considered interfering to add him to his list of newly acquired kids, but Reiji had compelled someone to burn Yuuma's home down. Discovering this, he kept an eye on the boy, learning that he hadn't died. Azusa ( original name Alexi ) was abandoned as a child and lived on the streets. He was taken in by some traveling Romani people and considered the three children who bullied him family. Karlheinz schemed to make sure each of these children ended up in the same place for collection. Due to the poor conditions and Kou's mistreatment, they tried to escape the orphanage, and Karlheinz found them being chased. He offered them salvation in exchange for their loyalty. The Sakamakis and Mukamis became a legion of vampires, yet lived in separate households. Where the Mukamis felt loyalty towards Karlheniz, the Sakamakis felt resentment.

Karlheniz eventually learned of someone named Klaus, said to be a hybrid. Because of his own experimentation, he became interested in him. Because I don't want to push anything onto a Klaus writer, I am very open to discussion about this. I default with all of the Sakamakis and Mukamis being told that if they ever happen to meet Klaus, they are to be loyal to him and win his good graces ( which isn't guaranteed ) because plots can make loyalty shift, or muses just don't get along. I don't plan for any of my DL boys to know anything else about Klaus outside of his name and the hybrid status because we don't metagame in this house. Regardless, though, they will all be a part of Klaus's sire-line. More background info on the four boys I write is in their bios. Yuuma and Ruki are likely to quest muse since Kou is a primary muse ( any other Sakamakis showing up depends on plot ).

This may be written later on their about pages, but with Kou and Shuu when romantic shipping isn't happening, they may autoship with two of my own muses. I never apply this without asking. But:
