Laurance Zvahl x Reader, loosely inspired by NewJeansâ Ditto MV
tw: reader has some insecurities; but no extreme details are mentioned. also reader is a hopeless romantic with no experience. plus first fic so⌠bad warning ?
You knew for a long time you were nothing special, and that only gets more confirmed when your friends consist of such big characters.
Aphmau, despite not trying to get into trouble, is practically your schools main character. Garroth is Phoenix Dropâs golden prince. Katelyn is a volleyball genius. Nana is a sweetheart. Aaron⌠honestly you couldnât explain him, but still. Point is, your list could go on for a while.
In comparison you were just⌠you, which wasnât necessarily a bad thing but you couldnât call it all that appealing. Personally that was something you were content with. This setup made for good videos at least. They were the stars, you were not.
One thing you would call bad about this scenario though, would be how closely connected you are to one person in particular thanks to your friends. Laurance Zvahl, pretty boy casanova, soccer team captain, sophomore, and⌠the only opinion you held in high regard for whatever reason.
Another slight lie, you knew the reason. Something along the times of a barely hidden crush.
Sometimes you wish he would just say he liked you back instead of existing in this confusing riddle, but this was Laurance you were talking about. He was a total sweetheart with a good head on his shoulders, but for worse and better, he was a flirt. A popular casanova who would take any opportunity to tease. As confusing as it sounds to hate the attention your crush gives you, you kind of did. Though you could reassure yourself with the fact he flirted with everyone meaning you were nothing special.
Acting like you didnât like him was fairly easy as you were already quiet and you did it well, mostly.
Even if there was moments where youâd catch his gaze and get away from there as quickly as possible. Leaving your friends in confusion to wonder if you were upset.
Or the times your camera would drift to him when you were meaning to film your friends. (Sometimes youâd less secretively point it at him, but that was beside the point.)
Did he want you like you wanted him? No, no. That wasnât even a possibility. Sure he smiled at you when youâd see him walking into school, but thatâs something heâd do if you werenât the one doing it.
As you stepped outside of the doors of Phoenix Drop, you can the realisation the rain had gotten so much worse. You fixed your bag over your shoulder contemplating for a moment. Maybe you give it a minute to settle down? It probably wouldnât be great to soak your bag.
Heading over to the vending machine you punched into the numbers. At least this place was out of the rain. You crouched down grabbing it out, punching your straw in. Getting lost in the sound of the rain.
âIt feels like forever since Iâve seen your face.â A voice rang out next to you, as you quickly moved your gaze up to look at where it was coming from. Laurance. A small smirk on his features, âYouâve usually got that camera right in front of you. Kind of rude, you know a lot of people would love to see something so pretty, right?â
Just like that your heart was sound loud. It echoing in your head.
Before you could even get in a response, Laurance continued on. Taking a step closer to you. Inspecting your drink, âI thought you liked strawberry.â
âI do, itâs just⌠winter.â You responded after a moment. Looking down at the flavoured milk in your hand, then up at him.
âOh, you have a system?â He tilted his head, a familiar laugh ringing out, âMaybe youâre onto something. Strawberries are more of a summer thing.â
You just gave a slight nod in response, taking a sip of your drink. Trying to obviously gave a him. There was something so otherworldly about Laurance⌠like no high schooler is supposed to look that good, no way. Itâs like having an awkward appearance phase just skipped him (though⌠you would be curious to see photos from his Shadow Knight Phase).
After a moment of silence he spoke up again, âSo, what are you doing still at school?â
âForgot my umbrella.â You mumbled out a response, nodding at the rain. The two of you stood under the small piece of shelter.
âSo you werenât waiting for me to finish soccer practice.â He sighed dramatically, leaning over you. Before giving a better explanation, âIt got canceled today, also thanks to the weather.â
He looked at you for a moment, before the smirk widened on his features again. As he reached down for your empty hand that was holding your drink. Lifting it up to his mouth, âMaybe since you arenât leaving, you could keep me entertained instead.â He pressed a kiss to your hand.
You faltered at that. Eyes widening slightly as you looked between your hand and his eyes.
He immediately laughed, but still kept your hand in his grasp, âYouâve seriously got to get better with your reactions, you make it seem like youâve never had your first kiss.â
A beat, the air still filled by him and the rain pouring down.
âI havenât.â You mumbled out quietly. Barely above a whisper, leaving it almost in audible above the sound of the weather around you. As you looked down at the ground.
He took your drink out of your hand, using his height to place it over the vending machine so it wouldnât get in the way. Before he took a step closer to you. Pressing another kiss against your hand, âDo you want to have it?â
This couldnât be happening. This had to be another made up scenario in your head. Laurance wouldnât date a girl like you, let alone kiss. If he did⌠itâd be someone outgoing like Aph, or, as much as you hated to say it, some popular pretty girl like Ivy. Maybe heâd even pick Michi before you.
You didnât see it, but his eyes softened as he looked down at you. A small smile replacing the smirk.
âYou can say no, I wouldnât be mad.â His hand other hand found its place on your cheek. He lifted your gaze up to meet his, âPlease donât tell me Iâve made you not trust me. Is it my reputation with girls making you hesitate?â
âI justâŚâ You took a deep breath, trying not to stutter your words. This was beyond embarrassing, âYou donât have to kiss someone like me.â
âSomeone like you?â He furrowed his eyebrows, trying not to laugh again, âYouâre making it sound like Iâm on a whole other plane of existence than you. Iâm asking because I want to kiss you.â
When you didnât answer he moved a little closer, âI like you, I mean it. Please just trust me here. Consider this making up for how many times youâve stared at me and I didnât make it clear I felt the same.â
You finally looked at him properly. A look of shock on your face. Had you really been that obvious this whole time. But you have a small nod in response.
âIâve been told Iâm a good teacher with these kinds of things.â He smirked, before pressing him lips against yours.
He used the hand on your cheek to guide your jaw. Helping you kiss him back. As much as he wanted too, he wasnât going to push you further. All of experience and flirting didnât matter right now, he just wanted to kiss you. His kiss seemed more excited than confident.
To him, his feelings for you seemed obvious. He cut down the flirting with others, always sought you out and asked about you, really didnât mind your stranger habits. But now that he truly knew your lack of experience⌠maybe he shouldâve been more straight up sooner.
He pulled away, looking over your flustered face. He reached up to the vending machine. Passing your drink back to you. Before he reached into his bag.
He had an umbrella this whole time.
âCome on, let me walk you home and we can talk things over.â He mused, opening it and holding it over both your heads. As he looked down at you in your shocked state.
