There is no way in hell Ted would come back to the UK if he was fulfilled and happy in Kansas. I hereby declare we were right all along. He left England because he felt obligated and not because he wanted to. Whatever was ailing him in the last few episodes did not get fixed by going back to the States.

I think they might explore the harsh truth that Ted’s feeling of unease in his own skin won’t get fixed by moving to and fro across the world or by moulding himself into whatever shape the world tells him is right. Dotty Lasso did so much damage. Looking after himself first is what makes him the best dad he can be. Even if it's from afar for a while.

And who's back to brighten his life now?

This might be proven true because I’ve seen a clip of season 4 where Ted watches a football (soccer) game with Rebecca and Keeley in Kansas City and Ted very evidently is dissociating during it and only comes to when the team scores and he starts clapping reflexively. He’s miserable. And we see Rebecca noticing.
