Guide to Figuring out the Age of an Undated World Map.
No but take the time to actually read it because I lost like 15 minutes.
I have a friend who is really good at this type of thing. Ā He once found an old globe at a garage sale and he was able to pin the date of itās making down to like a 6 month window, because it only wouldāve been correct during a specific point in WWII. Ā
I was mad impressed, because I have no mind for geography. Ā I can barely remember my own stateās capitol.
THIS IS GOLD ššš
This is amazing. Take the time to actually read it.
Holy shit the super specific things towards the end
Oh wow!
I didnāt know anything about the giant lake in California being created by accident?!
I love how it differentiates the maps of Narnia based on which book youāre looking at
I almost scrolled past this

If I could have your attention for one minute I want to talk about an upcoming game Iām REALLY excited about
Itās called Draconia and itās an open-world survival sandbox RPG game where you play as a dragon.
If youāre like me you probably love video games and such that feature dragons BUT get frustrated that often the focus is on slaying dragons, or on human political intrigue, or some other non-dragon nonsense.Ā Have no fear.Ā Draconia is going to give us everything we crave.
It looks SUPER prettyĀ
Choose one of several dragons, hunt to feed yourself, find water sources to drink from and develop your character through various tasks and events.
Draconia features:Ā
Character Customization: Give your character a custom name, change its pattern, colors and body parts, such as horns or tail tips or choose from pre-made textures.
Character Leveling: Complete tasks, quests and events to level your character and make it stronger. Spend talent points to increase your dragonās traits.ā
Optional PvP: Play on servers without being afraid of being attacked by other players. Simply disable PvP in your character profile and enable it if you want to have a battle with someone else.Ā
Group and Clan System: Go on your journey and bring your friends with you by inviting them to your group or creating your own clan, which allows you to announce events and keep track of your members progress.Ā
Create useful items: Ā Build a hoard to hide all your treasures in, create objects which improve your dragons stats or add temporary buffs.
Nesting: Build and defend a nest and raise your own dragon hatchling.
Questing: Find and complete several one-time and repeatable quests.
āInteractive Environment: Ā Interact with several objects in your environment to gain useful buffs or uncover more parts of the story.
Dragon Dens: Earn yourself a place you can call home. Unlock and upgrade your own den to live a more comfortable dragon life.
It will have a single-player offline mode and an online mode where you can interact with others, either with or without PVP.
Your character is customizeable and if they meet their stretch goals, new players could even start out as hatchlings.Ā If you pledge enough money on their crowdfunding campaign, you can get custom decorations, items, even another species!
You will be able to play as many different species, 6 species of dragon and various smaller wildlife.Ā Another stretch goal is to build a humanoid species that has mechanics for farming and dragon breeding and riding.
Draconia is currently trying to fund its project through Indiegogo. (Link)Ā Ā They are not offering exclusive content as a play-to-win system and nothing will be behind a paywall.
This game looks extremely beautiful, well thought out, and fun to play.Ā The creators clearly care a lot about this and have put their heart and souls into it.Ā I want to see this happen.Ā It will be released on Steam.Ā If this seems like something you would like to play or exist, please consider contributing to their Indiegogo or Patreon, or reblogging this to get the word out!Ā Thanks :)

IVE LITERALLY WANTED A GAME LIKE THIS MY ENTIRE,LIFE ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. ISTARIA IS LIKE THE ONLY OTHER GAME THAT HAS PLAYABLE DRAGONS BUT THEY WERE BEHIND A PAYWALL
PLEASE support this game, they have great devs that have shown a lot of promise.
On a similar note do NOT support a similar-looking game scam called Day of Dragons, which notoriously got over $500,000 from a fundraiser (that Draconia deserves instead) and has some of the shittiest, scammiest dev practices Iāve ever seen

The problem with the idea of 8 hours of work, 8 hours of sleep and 8 hours of recreation as a structure for a day is that it simply canāt work that way. If Iām expected to be at work at 9, then my work day must begin at 7. Allowing myself a rushed experience to wake up and get to work. And I live close to work. So either my recreation or my sleep needs to take a hit, but for some people it could be more. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week as a basis for full time work is honestly unreasonable at that point. Because it isnāt actually 40 hours a week, itās 50 hours a week lost to a job, of which 10 is unpaid.
some of my coworkers have 2h of transit to get to work, which takes 4-5h off their free time. working full time is a bad idea and shouldve never been a thing
This is, itās worth noting, by design.Ā Ā
Itās perfectly well known that people can only really āworkā (in that they can only consistently and effectively perform tasks and create products) 3-6 hours a day, forĀ 1 hourĀ to 2 hours at a time. Generally speaking, the broad consensus among actual researchers is to aim for about 4 hours a day.
The rest of these work hours, and the associated sunken time necessary to get to and from these work hours, serves one purpose:
It exhausts people.
People who donāt have leisure time are stressed. People who are stressed need conveniences. People who need conveniences will pay for them.
People who are stressed also donāt have the energy to fight for their rights, having expended all that energy in just staying alive.
And letās not forget that maintaining a clean home and providing food for yourself takes over 20 hours a weekĀ (appx 20 hours in-house, and varying hours spent running outside errands)Ā if you are completely abled.

this was my zine from the library show at MCAD that just ended so thats cool i guess

Thereās several reasons I love this gif:
1. The WTF reaction by the ref
2. The dude who escapes looks like an Irish boxer from the 1800ā²s
3. Whoās also gay sassy (I mean those trunks and that hand flick)
4. The other wrestler just holds his arms in the same position while heās looking dumbfounded at the gay sassy wrestler and then the audience and back

Patients of surgeon Harold Gillies during WWI and WWII
Okay, these photographs pissed me off a bit, because they donāt show off how much of a genius Dr. Harold Gillies, the father of modern plastic surgery, was.Ā Rhinoplasty, skin grafts, and facial reconstructions have been practised for centuries.Ā However, it was this New Zealander surgeon who standardized these techniques and established the discipline of āplastic surgery.ā
The introduction of more destructive weapons of WWI and WWII resulted in devastating injuries. In addition, in trench warfare, the head was more exposed than the rest of the body, and soldiersā faces were often shattered or burnt beyond recognition. Despite the best efforts of surgeons, many soldiers were left hideously disfigured. Traditionally, the edges of facial wounds were simply stitched together, but when scar tissue contracted faces were left twisted and disfigured, so a new type of surgery was needed.
Gillies rebuilt faces using tissue from elsewhere in the body. Antibiotics had not yet been invented, meaning it was very hard to graft tissue from one part of the body to another because infection often developed, so Gillies invented the tubed pedicle,ā where he used a flap of skin from the chest or forehead and āswungā it into place over the face. The flap remained attached but was stitched into a tube. This kept the original blood supply intact and dramatically reduced the infection rate.Ā After many surgical construction, grafting, and healing, which could take months to years, the tentacle-like tubing would be removed, and (volia!) a new face!
He was also the first to do sex reassignment surgery from female to male in 1946, then male to female using a flap technique in 1951, which became the standard for 40 years.
tl;dr, these were his patients BEFORE the surgery. He didnāt DISFIGURE these people he HELPED them.
This is amazing holy shit

The more you look at this picture, the more anxious it becomes.
this is just a normal waffle house

Blind man reading news paper Skull in the coffee
Milk is $15
Ladyās hand is a tentacle
the bleeding pie, the eyeball and fingers on the blind manās plateā¦
I was trying to find something nobody else had seen yet, when I realizedā¦
Look right above the tentacle arm. The second man at the buffet, what the hell is he doing? Heās either throwing up or eating an octopus.
I think his face is just tentacles.
The blind man has gills.
Scariest detail: this image was ripped from the creatorās site and vandalized (edited to remove the watermark), then reuploaded for viral fame without so much as a mention of the artistās name. SOURCE: http://jeffleejohnson.deviantart.com/art/Blue-Plate-Special-661961724 That said, the earlier observation about milk being $15 is off - artist confirms this is based on a 1920ās diner, so the price would be in cents. (http://comments.deviantart.com/1/661961724/4375070065) The table under the journal is lacquered with ants. The person holding the skull-creamed coffee paints the underside of their nails. Either that or their natural nails grow red. The journalās writing, intentionally made hard to read and partially obscured, is somewhat of a cheat to all the things amiss in the scene. (http://comments.deviantart.com/1/661961724/4372574544) I can make out: ā⦠and eyeball ⦠have to think he is less strange than the horrifying creature that seems to have inhabited the cabinet behind him ⦠all tentacles and teeth ⦠(obscured by cup) ⦠Where in the world can be found such nightmares?!ā
Reblogging for the correct source (I didnāt even notice the OP wasnāt the artist oops).
Thereās a second one, and thereās even more in this

Honestly, in my work as a therapist, Iām seeing this A Lot, and tbh I still donāt have a satisfactory approach to it. A heavy dose of Existentialist ācreate your own Purposeā tempered with āwhen the planeās going down, put your own oxygen mask on firstā, but⦠yeah, there is no ethical way to work on individual emotional distress without acknowledging the systemic socioeconomic, geopolitical fuckery going on at the moment, and the sheer grief that comes with it.
Iām a guidance counselor/psychologist for teenagers and itās getting really hard to motivate young people to work for a future they donāt believe in.Ā
Ā They look at ther future and see global warming, wwIII, unemployement, political unstability, poison in everythingĀ they eat, the earth and animals dying all around them.Ā
I saw this video where someone was asking french teens in the 50s how they imagine the future would be. The war hadnāt been over for long and yet it was all positive with like peace and flying cars and such. Then they went and ask the same questions to nowadays teens and hell that was depressing. Some still had hope, but it was just thatĀ āwell I hope Iāll have a nice house and maybe some kidā but there was such a hesitancy to it, like they didnāt dare to hope too much.Ā
People mock Greta Thunberg but what they donāt get is that when she saidĀ āyou stole my dreamsā, it was the truth.Ā
Young people donāt get to dream like they used to. They donāt dream anymore, they grief all that wonāt be anymore and thatās just so fucking sad.Ā
I was gonna write this in the tags but ya know what, maybe this might help someone out there.Ā Ā This is such a heavy and sad reality for the younger generation and although I am fortunate to not have mental illness to add on to this burden, I am also of the millenial gen and have to face this reality too.Ā Ā And yes there are other advice and articles to remind you that this rapid and widespread news sharing thatās made possible thru the internet really has a damaging side effect because no single individual is made to handle such vast onslaught of suffering we now see constantly happening throughout the world. So yes, if you need to step away from the news, you do so.Ā And while Iām doing ok for myself at the moment, itās both believing in the semi-delusional possibility of a personal bright future, and the very real possibility that the end of the world will be within my lifetime. Granted, being in the older range of millenial, maybe I still had a childhood where I could dream and have kept some of that. I cannot imagine how it is for those who were born post 9/11 and only have this hellish landscape to reference.Ā
Thereās an odd thing happening where the younger generation seems forced to mature by being faced with their own mortality so early on in life.Ā So on one hand, this can manifest in a form of hopelessness:Ā āWhy should I bother when I am helpless to do anything about whatās going on? Why should I try when the world is going to die, and Iām going to die anyway?ā Being forced to constantly see what we are losing keeps you focused externally and lose touch with yourself.Ā
However there is another side to what acknowledging mortality can do:Ā āIf I am going to die anyway, then what is it that is truly important to me?āĀ Ā I mean thereās nothing like coming face to face with death to rearrange your priorities.
Ā Here Iām just gonna add a disclaimer, Iām not trying to give any sort of advice or answer.Ā Iām just choosing to share how Iāve decided to look at this for myself and maybe if someone out there can relate and find some comfort in it, then thereās that hope they can find some comfort.
But yeahĀ So, what IS important to you? This then turns the focus from outwards in the world, to inwards inside yourself. It grounds you from getting lost in the onslaught of tragedies.Ā
And the thing is, what I thought was important to me has changed over the years (as what happens when you go through life experiences and mature). When I was younger, I wanted to be known for my aspirations, be famous for being a great comic artist or whatnot.Ā Now, while that is still something I am striving for, I canāt really say is the most important thing to me.Ā Not in this sense that Iām talking about right now.
Right now, I think the most important thing to me is actually really simple.Ā Being my most genuine and authentic self, and to be loving and compassionate to myself and all I come across in my life.Ā Thatās it. I want to know, that if I die at any given moment, that I will die without regrets, and that at every moment I have breathed on this earth, I have always tried my best to be the best person I could be.Ā Itās a simple directive that can allow room for change and growth, whatever it needs to be at that time. But it is also something I think, that starts with you yourself, and expands to those around you, to those whom you touch and affect.Ā People feel helpless because it seems what we wish for, our voice and say, doesnāt matter in the face of those in power.Ā And while you hear this in the context of voting and such (and PLEASE do go out to vote), Iām talking more at itās basic personal level.Ā It starts with who you are as a person.Ā Who you are uniquely.Ā Learning to truly love yourself opens that door to discovering who you are as an individual.Ā And itās in this self-discovery, that begins a chain reaction to your outward expression, your outward expression affects others around you. And then those around you add on to it.Ā What starts off small can grow to become something very powerful.Ā Ā
And sometimes, it takes facing impending mortality to do away with distractions for learning who you really are and whatās really important to you.Ā I mean, weāre all gonna die anyway.Ā And a whole chunk of us are predicting sooner rather than later.Ā So accept it and move through the fear that paralyzes you.Ā Remember, thereās nothing more dangerous than an animal cornered and fighting for their life.Ā So too, would be an entire generation that chooses to no longer fear being genuine in the face of the given society and have their voice heard.Ā Because when you no longer fear death, you will be at your most powerful, and collectively, we can give those in power something to really fear.Ā Ā
