Bloodymary art + Ramblings (Iron Lung spoilers I guess)
My Bloodymary Ramblings/Ideas
So one of the things I struggled with about the bloodymary ship was imagining how Simon and Grace would meet. Mainly because Simon dies at the end of Iron Lung. Most of the time with ships where a character dies, I usually just make up a storyline where that off chance of them surviving occurs. I couldn't really do that here because his death seemed like something I couldn't wiggle away from in a smooth manner. If the explosion didn't kill him, then the sudden change of pressure, the lack of available oxygen, or the blood loss from his missing arm would. Like, I wanted to imagine a fan storyline that would allow Simon to meet Grace while also not damaging the impact of his death in the film, if that makes sense. I was racking my brain trying to tie it all nicely together in my head, when the most fire type of concept came to me.
What if Simon does die but comes back?
Don't leave the table before the dinner is set out, listen...
We saw that the blood on the moon was not just eroding his skin, but mutating him, right? (The weird teeth on the side of his face.)
We also know that the big, evil telepathic eel has human-like characteristics molded into it, right?
So, when his sub explodes and Simon is fully submerged into that liquid, what if it causes his consciousness and body to join this weird, primordial soupy ocean of biological material and other people's minds? Like joining a hivemind-like mass of organic material. This would also work with the eel's ability to use telepathy since I'm pretty sure it didn't start speaking to him until he was exposed to the blood, showing how its contamination is what links the person with the rest of the ocean.
Anyway, after his death where he defeated the ell, something happens where Grace and Rocky come into contact with the moon's ocean. Maybe they try to take a sample of the ocean and it responds by building some weird sack a new, rebuild Simon burts from. I don't have a path planned out for this part as much since I've really only seen the Iron Lung side of bloodymary but whatev-
Like, the soupy ocean hive mind thing or whatnot is aware enough to realize that there is something it can spread itself to, (like how a virus would) and it builds a biological structure that allows Simon to be reborn from the ocean.
I really liked the different scenarios and ideas that could play out from something like this. It makes a new point for angst to develop for me. Simon had to experience the horrors of that ocean, die from it, and then get brought back into the world as a living thing again. How would something so bizarre and traumatic affect him? Would he still have the memories of his old self and still be him, or would being in an ocean of minds and blood cause him to have recollection of the other convicts? Would he still be tormented by the eel in his head? How could the themes of life, rebirth, freedom, and suffering affect his and Grace's story? Maybe his mind was at least somewhat there after death. Maybe his sheer will to be free or his spite of the eel and crew brought him back to life. Maybe the whole thing caused him to get biological manipulation powers or something I dunno.
I just really liked the idea when it jumped into my head and thought I'd share. Guys I feel crazy I promise I'm not. ANYYYWAYYY thank you for listening if you've read this far.
