โi wish Peeta was here โ the old Peeta โ because he would be able to articulate why it is so wrong to be exchanging fire when people, any people, are trying to claw their way out of the mountain.โ
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAYMITCH ABERNATHY!!
and will I be killed if I say the acting in the new SOTR clips is a little disappointing
i get so sad about sotr bc i love tbosas and i still think itโs one of the best, most interesting prequels to a series ive ever read and i thought sotr would be of the same caliber and itโs just not ๐ญ
i love declining birth rates ๐ฅฐ "what a horrible problem! society will collapse!" oopsie it looks like you're gonna have to make having children worth it ๐ teehee you're gonna have to improve society in order to fix this problem, or it will all collapse. oh noooooo. how horrible. :3c

You know, I actually really appreciate that Collins chose to describe Katniss as having brown skin but her sister Prim as whitepassing. It's nice to see a depiction of a mixed family actually, realistically differing in appearance for once. Genetics can be weird y'all. Mixed kids can range from one parent to another and are definitely not always (in fact rarely) a perfect middle blend of both.
Take one look at my art blog and you'll know, I love the interpretation of Katniss as indigenous with brown skin. However, I think people give Suzanne Collins a little too much praise for it? Yes the text can be read that way, with so many details (neighborhoods mysteriously segregated based on looks and income, Katniss and her father's knowledge of native plants and animals, as well as many other things I can't think of off the top my head) pointing towards such an interpretation. The text supports it! But I truly think it was an accident on Suzanne's part. Otherwise, why would she continue allowing her books to be whitewashed? Why would she leave descriptions of looks out of SOTR almost entirely? Even the new play has a white Katniss.
TLDR: Charlie loves brown Katniss and the POC Seam, but I don't think Suzanne Collins should get the credit for it
A 2014 study shows that despite the wealth of talented actresses in Hollywood, women still remain grossly underrepresented when it comes to major film roles. Here to give us her take, a one-dimensional female character from a male driven comedy.

If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.
Reblog to save for later. Your WIP will thank you.
