OP: I finally get why travelers in ancient china always brought bamboo flutes with them especially when they went mountain hiking. (cr你真是饿了)
<3 Proper way to help these lil buddies on their way <3
If you’re in the habit of helping small creatures, as I am, here’s how for snail. Prob also applicable for aquatic snails.

me, wearing nothing but a sheer plunge-neck ballgown that’s plastered to my skin from the rain, soaking wet and trembling with cold and fatigue as i stand outside the entrance to the castle: p-please help me ;) i’m s-so lost and s-scared ;) ;) i have no where to stay for the night ;) ;) ;)
the sexy vampire lady who answered the door, and to whom the castle belongs: of course ;) you poor thing ;) ;) come inside, you must be freezing… you may stay as long as you need to recover from your ordeal ;) ;) ;)
You walked up to that house in the rain on purpose
the fuck else would I be sloshing around in a wet ballgown for
I drew it…. & animated it…
"cozy bookstore" "cozy cafe with a bookshelf" "omg imagine if there was a place you could just sit and read at" we have this its called the library. you guys want to go to the library. the two college libraries near me have cafes inside and they are open to the public. people need to go to the library
This is an illustration I did for the August 2014 issue of Popular Science Magazine. The assignment was to show a scifi take on human aging in the future. I wanted to do something relatively positive, so I drew a lady whose life has been been prolonged through cybernetic enhancements and augmentation, so she gets to spend time with her great-great-great-great grandchildren.
Thanks to AD Michelle Mruk!
this is beautiful
So I keep wanting to reblog Cyborg Matriarch here, but I keep losing track of her.
She’s not getting away this time.
I really want a sci-fi story to go with this.
scientific fact
I love post like "you all are against rich people until they're a fictional character" because it's completely true. I am against rich people until it's a fictional character. I don't think liking Scrooge McDuck makes someone a class traitor

And this, my darlings, is why finding a skilled cobbler is a game-changer.
I know we talk a lot about the literacy crisis and the horrible anti-intellectualism happening rn but I think we need to talk more about how much of an entitlement complex the stupidest among us have developed
Dear readers,
Please be ready to expand your vocabulary when you read books/fics - thank you
Yours truly - a writer who gained her big vocabulary from reading
Seriously. How do you think LEARNING happens?
You look shit up.
That's how we all did it. We looked shit up. A lot.
We need to romanicise collecting non-physical things again. When I was a teen, I came home at least four times a week and told my mom "so you know what I learned today? Did you know that [insert obscure word here] is a word? Did you know that's a thing that existed?" and things like that change you for the better.
Don't expect the world to shovel knowledge into your mouth. You're not a baby bird. Look stuff up. Ask that person on the train what they're reading. Ask that grandma taking a walk what kind of plant she's carrying and why. Ask that 4yo what kind of animal they're watching on the sidewalk (probably a snail). Ask your cashier about their cool tshirt. Ask. It's so important for so many things. Knowledge, connection, fun.
Ask.
THIS IS THE HARDEST I HAVE LAUGHED IN SO LONG YOU HAVE CURED MY DEPRESSION
This is one of the greatest posts I’ve ever witnessed. The payoff was amazing.
My roommate heard it going and went “OH MY GOD is it EVER going to resolve?” then the payoff hit and she busted up laughing
at least now we know why he has yet to return when Britain is in peril
We need a flick where King Arthur wakes in modern Jamaica and is very confused.
I think that would be so much funny. He wakes up on a remote beach in Jamaica and he only speaks/understands Brythonic and Medieval Latin. Locals assume he was a tourist who fell from a cruise ship or received a head injury and floated away from a resort. The authorities cannot match his description to any missing persons reports and his fingerprints and DNA produce no hits on INTERPOL. They suspect he may be Welsh or French because the language he speaks resembles Welsh or Breton but France and the UK both state he is not a citizen of their country. Stateless and deeply confused, he is taken in by the community near the beach where he was found, being cared for by a number of local families and doing odd jobs. He slowly learns English and adjusts to the contemporary world, uncertain if his belief that he is the legendary King Arthur was formed by whatever traumatic event caused him to end up Jamaica or if he is actually King Arthur and Prydain is in eminent peril. Mysterious letters from Morgan begin to reaffirm his belief he is King Arthur. He must choose between staying in Jamaica and continuing the happy life he has made for himself or finding a way to get back to Britain without any documentation.
ancient king white boy stuns locals by ordering in perfect Jamaican Patois
He gets to Britain and everyone expects him to sound like a posh noble Englishman because that is the picture Malory painted but he prefers to speak Welsh and when he has to speak English, he speaks with a thick Jamaican accent.
One fun thing to me about German, at least in my regional dialect, is the -ong bastardization of words that really adds a village fool twang to words
Beton -> Betong
Pardon -> Pardong
Saison -> Saisong
Karton -> Kartong
etc etc, a personal favourite: Croissant -> Crossong
I make sure to make it sound as stupid as possible because it's fun that way

I'm one of the few people that genuinely LOVES working customer service (hotel receptionist here), like yes the occasional person is rude and entitled. But most of the time? People are kind, and funny, and will jump at the chance to share a bit of their lives with someone else.
The businessman that comes in every week who seemed grouchy at first now smiles and waves when I remember his name, and explains he's just finished a long drive, and he doesn't MEAN to come off as rude, he's just tired.
The mother and daughter who visit the hotel each summer and tell me they've been coming here for years, and each time they visit they go to the pier and save up their tickets for the big ticket items. One day they come through the doors with the biggest grins, the older lady in the wheelchair proudly waving a huge stuffed toy tiger she's "had her eye on for years".
The young man with his girlfriend who looks nervous as he approaches reception, and stumbles over his words, his hands shaking as he signs the paperwork to check in. I've spent the last two weeks on the phone with him organising this; we've set up the bedroom with balloons and petals and decorations, and he's going to propose as soon as they get to the room.
The woman who I've not seen before who asks if I'm local, and tells me she grew up here, and had recently found herself drawn back. We talk about the sounds of seagulls, and the metal clanging of masts down at the harbour, and how the sounds that fade into the background are the ones you miss most when you leave. She's writing a book and promises to send me a copy when she's done.
The regular who goes out of her way to buy us all the strangest biscuits she can find at the tourist shops. We try them together, pulling faces at the ones that just don't work.
The thirty something woman who immediately sees a kinship in me and whispers to me that she has been here before, but under a name she no longer uses, and we celebrate the freedom she feels.
The support group that comes in for coffee each week and sit together filling the foyer with laughter.
Every single person living their own wonderful complicated rich lives, and I get to be a part of that. How is that not beautiful?
your month, your mini bird wearing a hat!
These tiny birds are now sticker sheets in my shop!!
