It was when she started running out of steam that she saw him there, just, waiting for her to be done. It might've started her up again, if the flush of shame she felt hadn't snuffed it out.
If he doesn't trust you, that's not a me problem.
In that, he was right, and she had nothing to say.
"Make this stupid pasta." Fuck her husband. She shook her head, stepping forward to the counter to clear aside the broken machinery with her floury hands, gently nudging Andrew aside.
At least without the roller, maybe she could channel some of this rage into beating the dough
"...Are you still not coming back to the restaurant?" She murmured after a long silence and some pride to swallow.
Trying to hide his amusement, Andrew nodded with a clear 'yes chef', as Julia dug into the dough with fervor.
"I might. Now that you're running off to California." they were going to need another chef.
"And why California, of all places? You could've gone to any other restaurant closer to home."
“It’s just stuff, stuff can be replaced,” [Andrew] @chaosdujour
"Well, that's nice, but y'know this stuff- can't actually, this was a gift, it's an antique and who knows if I'm gonna be able to find somebody to fix it, so," Her hands fly up at her sides, then go to cover her face, rubbing down it in tired frustration.
She remembered to take a breath.
"Whatever. Whatever."
She pulled her hands down to glance at her former boss. "Are you okay?" Hopefully the ancient pasta machine hadn't harmed him in any way.
What Andrew thought was a simple kitchen tool breaking down turned out to be more valuable than the advice he was offering.
Oh.
"Hey it's.." clearly it meant a lot to Julia, seeing the way she would tense up and all that frustration let out in short spurts.
Stepping closer, he lay his hands on the side of her arms, brushing them gently up and down.
"I'm fine." he chuckled. It has just pinched his finger, that's all. "Look I know some great people. I'll send out a feeler, see if they can get this back to its glory, yeah?"
He sighed. Julia was really upset about this.
Or something else.
"Hey.. What's wrong?" brows furrowed, brown eyes tried to lock in on hers, worried about the amount of emotions having just come out.
At least he wasn't hurt badly then. She let out a sigh.
God. Whatever, whatever..
Add the stupid thing to the list of broken ones. She doubted it'd ever be fixed. At first feeling the touch of two hands meant to comfort, she sees his dark brown worried eyes searching out her own.
After a brief moment her hands come up to gently push them aside, stepping out of this close proximity in her discomfort.
..What's wrong?
"Ugh. Everything? This machine, and I promised I'd take good care of it.. and-
why did you have to do that?" She exhaled her exasperation, now thinking of Josh. "Saying all that. You really got him in his head, Andrew."
With his hands being pushed aside, Andrew took a step back to give her some space. Everything? Everything was wrong, well...
Blinking in confusion, it soon clicked what she was talking about, and then there was a slight smirk on his lips, finding that whole thing amusing, honestly. But she really did not.
"That was the point." he let out a chuckle, though it got rather sucked in when she didn't see it the way he was.
"Look, I meant no harm I was just messing with him. He deserved it..
And he really doesn't deserve you." he shrugged, dusting wiping his hands on the towel thrown over his shoulder to get back to the pasta dough.
Her own dishrag flew at Andrew's chest in a light puff of flour at his commentary, at the goddamned nerve of him.
"He is my husband." She snapped at him. "So watch it." The way he talked. It bewildered her, though not as badly as what Josh had had to say earlier.
"I chose him, you don't just say that to me."
Where did he get off?
"You think it's funny to mess around with my life? You have no idea what we've been- what we're going through! You, you- uGH,,"
"—And I'm your friend, aren't I?? Friends are supposed to tell each other these things." the dust of flour made him grimace, wafting away what he could with his hand.
"I'm sorry. But.." Josh is an ass. "He cheated on you.
How has that not made you pack your bags yet?" he sighed, feeling he'd come on too strongly, a hand on his hip and the pasta dough abandoned.
"I only want to see you happy, Julia. And lately.. You haven't seemed happy."
"I dunno, aren't you? Just stop. if you think that was helping, it wasn't." She let out a guffaw, hands on her hips right back at him.
how has that not made you pack your bags yet
"...You just don't understand." Julia shook her head, uncomfortable how familiar the words tasted in her mouth. But how could he understand? He didn't know Josh, he wasn't in this.
"yeah, this ordeal has really helped me feel happy." Julia scoffed. "really helped to have him accuse me of cheating with you, or wanting to cheat with anybody in California." God it still infuriated her.
"really got us back to a good place, Andrew."
Brows shot up the accusation. Of course he was her friend. What was all of this if not doing the work of a friend.
He didn't understand? He didn't understand?
Wiping his hands again, he dropped the towel on the counter, letting her get it all out. Okay fine, he would stop.
Raising his hands in surrender, Andrew waited for Julia to finish, keeping silent for a moment after.
"Fine. I will stop.
But if he doesn't trust you, that's not a me problem. If he doesn't trust you then that's something you need to talk to him about.
Now are we going to make this bloody pasta or talk about your husband the whole time?"

Outtakes of Aaron taylor Johnson for GQ Spain/ México (2024)
Wow.
How did- Yeah, of course Julia told him. Okay, cool. This was Miles all fucking over again.
Jesus that really fucking infuriated him.
"...—No."
She wouldn't.
Would she?
No.
Fuck this guy, he was just getting in his head—
"—Did you two hook up?"
"Oh, mate,"
So much for Josh's confident answer, Andrew was too surprised by the question to keep his laughter in.
"You gotta ask your wife about that. Unless you don't trust what she says."
Sure, he could just be upfront. But this was way more fun. And maybe he wanted the guy to squirm, a little payback for what he did to Julia.
"I gotta tell you, this is not a good look on you."
"Feels like I do! Julia talks about you..." whichever way you want to translate that. "So fondly. Feels like I really know you.
But I'm talking about Julia being a way for a whole year while you stay at home with Bernie.
Just thought you'd.. You know, have something to say about it. I mean, it's one whole year, after all."
?
Hold up, wait.
Julia gone for a whole year and... he was staying with Bernie. Alone. Without Julia.
While she was in California.
Uh.
"...that's,
what she want's." how come it feels like he missed a big part of that decision,
again.
"Yeah-- What am I supposed to say—"
"—That's real brave of you, mate. I mean, if I was you, I'd be wondering if she would get back at me for the whole cheating thing."
"You're not worried she's going to find some handsome CALIFORNIAN guy over there? All those chefs running around, sweating, bumping into each other, working as a team. Intimately."
"So,"
"France, huh?"
That was a bold move, letting your wife travel across the world, alone, while the husband stayed at home with the child.
"Gotta tell you, didn't think you were that kind of guy."
@fuascailt
..Oh, excellent. Andrew knows.
"What the fuck are you on about." the disdain, that he wasn't even trying to disguise, merged with the confusion of the words coming out of the chef's mouth.
"I doubt you know me well enough to think anything of me."
"Feels like I do! Julia talks about you..." whichever way you want to translate that. "So fondly. Feels like I really know you.
