i've never really cared about hotd being "book accurate" when there's barely any material to adapt anyway, so i do think the choice to make rhaenyra into someone who believes in her own godhood quite appealing. it works on the level that the throne was denied to her as a woman, so she transcends gender and becomes a prince elevated by the gods. and it's tragic, because she really tried to emulate viserys the peaceful after taking the throne, but found the people around her failing her and her own insecurities biting her. daemon's speech about them being gods early in the season came true for rhaenyra because no options were left to her. it's desperate and tragic and emma d'arcy is a marvel to behold.
