probably one of the most heartwrenching headcanons I have would be Kaeya and the Angel's Share. the way he still lingers around the corners, knows every bit of the wood, holding the tavern, every note of scents and every item in the wine catalogue.
and knows that he once felt so safe within these walls. so calm, so grounded, so peaceful. it's as if nothing could get through them.
four years of Diluc's absence shattered that peace completely, leaving him defenceless, vulnerable, open to the very world, scarred and burned. he doesn't feel safe anywhere. he feels dread at the every step of his, at every breath he takes. his mind is in shambles.
so, he carries himself to the tavern. so, he drinks. so, he notices others spilling their secrets and babbling about everything when the tip of the scales tolls to the side. so, he decides to take the risks and put aside his own safety for the sake of Mondstadt.
after all, he knows what drunk people can do.
every time he enters the tavern, his mind screeches at him, begging to leave. every time he smiles and adds one more glass of the patron to his tab, he's pushing it, terrified of what can follow next. the secrets he's seeking or the punches he's avoiding. there's also a chance of poison in his drink, he has to be alert all the time. there's also a chance of spiking his drink. he's a handsome bachelor, after all. he's terrified.
he ruins his mind by paranoia he can't keep at bay.
then, Diluc returns. then, Diluc takes the bartender position in the tavern. then, Diluc seems to catch his consealed nervousness and bubbling horror.
then, Diluc tips his drink to the side, apologises, takes the glass with himself, and Kaeya sees the patron grit his teeth, seething. oh. then, Diluc breaks the fight before it's about to start, dragging the adventurer out, and Kaeya, pinned to the wall by the very adventurer, slips to the floor and sits, the tavern suspiciously empty of other people. then, Diluc throws him a look and gets him a mug, full of Glühwein, and Kaeya, half-delirious from the fever and shivering from the cold, sips at the spiced wine long after the shift is over.
then, Diluc sits on the other side and shares a wine with him. it's the day of Crepus' death. Kaeya hides his face in his hands, dry sobs stacked into his lungs, the long forgotten feeling of safety washes over him, and he can try and believe it's not as lost as he has imagined.
Kaeya, young and scared, dropped into a world who deemed him a sinner for simply being born. A land where he watched as the cursed remnants of his people are slain without thought, sometimes even as practice.
Dropped in a land with purity and freedom built into its foundation. Yet he was a boy tainted in the abyss and tied to his fate. A world where they tell stories of his homeland as a cautionary tale, where they speak of his people as lost souls and not ones crying out for help.
No wonder he never felt safe to reveal himself. Even past his mission, just his existence goes against Mondstadt's ideals. Maybe not Venti's because I doubt Venti cares, but he wasn't raised with Venti's ideals. He was raised by the ideals of the devout church visitors, the loyal knights, the reverent beliefs of the citizens.
Born with ties to the abyss and placed in a world where its mere presence is considered evil.

I live for Chaeya's first impressions of each other reflecting their first appearances in game. I mean, prettiest mystery guy Kaeya, long eyelashes, camera spin, instantly charming anyone on sight vs friendly weirdo Childe, staring with dead eyes from the most awkward angles, opens his mouth and puts his foot right there. And they're both equally charmed. Yeah, that's Kaeya's man.

their first meeting are always still the most exciting part to me up to this day, the chemistry is adorable. the he makes me laugh is so real 😭😭
Chaeya but Childe falls for Kaeya right after their nations stop being at odds.
I mean, there's a battle and they're told they now are on the same side? Seconds later they meet in the field, covering each other's sides. Childe has this slow-motion movie-worthy moment where he sees the Mondstadtian guy who is fighting with him side by side, adapting and clicking with him as if he has done it before.
And the moment they find each other at a camp, he's both sharp and kind all in one. Proceeds to ask him on a date once the battle is all over, and Kaeya is speechless. He falls for him somewhere between the flowers he hands him on their first peaceful meeting and listenig to him talk while cooking for the third time. (I hc Kaeya falls easily for the little things if he's in a comfortable space, and Childe falls fast like a slap to the face)
They met after whatever showdown with Sneezhnaya already happened and things are still shaky between other nations and Sneezhnaya? Their relationship raises the morale by itself. There are bards singing ballads about their epic love story, when what actually happened was more like the clumsiest meet cute turned date proposal ever.
i had to close tumblr a few times from how fluffy this is EWWWW EWWW EWWW i am vibrating. THEYRE SO DISGUSTING. oh to be one of the bards and fans celebrating chaeya love story in there. this is so sweet im gonna be sick
