Turtle Cove Boutique Resort sits on the beach of Ambergris Caye, Belize's largest island, a short distance from San Pedro Town. The island's economy centers on tourism tied to the Belize Barrier Reef, part of the Mesoamerican Reef system that runs offshore. San Pedro, the caye's only town, developed from a fishing village into the country's main destination for diving and snorkeling operators.

Tucked along the coast of Ambergris Caye, John’s Escape Bar & Grill has a connection to one of Belize’s most controversial former residents. Named after antivirus-software pioneer John McAfee and located on or near his former beachfront property north of San Pedro, the bar’s name playfully referenced both a tropical escape and McAfee’s dramatic flight from Belize in 2012.

Pirates is a beach bar on the west side of Ambergris Caye known locally as Secret Beach, a shallow stretch of shoreline that developed rapidly into a popular gathering spot over the past decade. The area sits along the island's undeveloped western coast, reachable primarily by golf cart or boat rather than the paved roads that serve San Pedro Town. Bars and restaurants like this one operate mostly outdoors, built on wooden platforms with open-air seating close to the water. Rum, tequila, and local Belikin beer make up much of the stock behind these bars, catering to day-trippers who come out from San Pedro for the swimming and the sunset views.
