A loon at the Renee Good Memorial that reads "NOT ALL THAT HAVE FALLEN ARE VANQUISHED". On January 7, 2026, 37-year-old Renée Nicole Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during a federal immigration enforcement operation in south Minneapolis. Video recorded by bystanders showed Good attempting to drive away as agents surrounded her vehicle before an ICE agent fired multiple shots into the SUV. Federal officials claimed the shooting was justified because the agent feared being struck by the vehicle, while witnesses, local officials, and independent video analyses questioned that account and called for further investigation. Good, a Minneapolis resident, and community advocate, was remembered by family and supporters as compassionate and deeply involved in supporting immigrant communities. Her death sparked large protests across Minneapolis and intensified national debate over immigration enforcement, the use of federal agents in local operations, and the expanding role of ICE under the Trump administration. The ICE agent that shot Renee Good has been identified as Jonathan Ross of Chaska, Minnesota.

As seen at the Renee Good Memorial in July 2026: ""It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out all the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holding onto something — that there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for." — Samwise Gamgee, The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien" On January 7, 2026, 37-year-old Renée Nicole Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during a federal immigration enforcement operation in south Minneapolis. The Alex Pretti Memorial in July 2026 on Nicollet Ave in South Minneapolis. On January 24, 2026, federal immigration agents fatally shot 37-year-old Alex Pretti during Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis. Pretti, an intensive care nurse at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, was killed during an encounter connected to large-scale federal immigration enforcement operations taking place across the Twin Cities. Video recorded by bystanders and witnesses at the scene quickly circulated online and contradicted portions of the initial federal account of the shooting, leading to public outrage and demands for the release of additional evidence. Video showed that Pretti was armed and was shot and killed an after he was disarmed. Pretti’s death sparked days of protests, marches, and confrontations with law enforcement in Minneapolis as demonstrators condemned the federal operation and called for accountability. The shooting became a major flashpoint in ongoing national debates over immigration enforcement, federal policing powers, and the use of force during domestic operations. As of this writing, no one has been held responsible for the killing.
