hi guys just watched the odyssey (2026). lemme tell you. its pretty shit

no gods (except athena just. standing there and maybe adding 2 or 3 cryptic dialogues), no cunning, no Nobody, no olive tree. but instead we get calypso in a weirdly empathetic light! she just! lets him leave! (among many other issues I had with it)

Not having Odysseus meet the Phaeacians is a cut that i guess makes sense but also leads to so many issues. When we meet ody he just doesn't have his memory so the start of the odyssey is being told from him slowly remembering it on Calypso's island. Which calypso encourages while at the same time is like. Obviously keeping him against his will and manipulating him. so which one is it??? hello??? There's no gods that appear other than athena and so what they do is just make Calypso say, literally, "you're a man who needs to control his fate" AND SHE LETS HIM LEAVE

listen I didnt go in with high hopes at ALL. And I don't mind most adaptation changes in general. but my god it got worse somehow w/ calypso especially because that's just bad writing??
