Finally a walk around the downtown area which was shuttered for the weekend although we did see the flood markers on the town hall.

I had the opportunity to take my students to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, two Frank Loyd Wright houses that are an easy drive from Sate College. Kentuck Knob also has a large amount of land that featuring the current owner’s sculpture collection. Beautiful places to walk around and interesting to compare the seminal work with a later home that is still privately owned.

After our first visit here, I think we’re still really partial to Del Grosso’s (so cheap, compact, and convenient), but there were some fun new things to explore like the dinosaur area, the splash park, the tram, and the boat ride. Not many pics!

We ate lunch in Bradford at Slice of the ‘80s. Our son saw some ‘80s music videos on the TV which spawned an amazing week of him playing imaginary rockstar. Onto the well designed Zippo Case Museum complete with giant ball run and many many lighters. A little ice cream and a nap for some sleepy kids...

The weather dashed our hopes of overnight camping, but we drove down to Raystown with s’mores supplies for a fun and wet afternoon. Lots of awesome houseboats and beautiful waterfront campsites. We will return!

Grown Up edition! We spent a kid-less & unambitious weekend at the After Eight Bed & Breakfast near Lancaster.  We checked out the Central Market and it’s many treats, took an epic and hot walk from one end of downtown (Cork Factory Hotel) to the other (It’s Modern Art!). Just when we were about to expire - an oasis - the Wacker Brewing Company & its companion Thistle Finch Distillery. We took a great drive around a bunch of the adjacent towns - giggling at all of the names (Fertility, Paradise, Bird In Hand, Blue Ball, Intercourse...). Another highlight was the outdoor location of the Pressroom Restaurant.

Lovely birthday dinner, quiet drive, and walk around downtown.

Three years, two months, and one baby later, we return to this beautiful spot for a quick hike. Hide-n-seek is a great motivator for A. on the trail.

Never afraid of the cold, we caught the final toss of the Punkin Chunkin festival. Super windy as we watched some pumpkins catapult into the water and fried dough, jalapeno pierogies and what have you. And baby O. got a little homemade pumpkin hat. Beautiful light!

Outlets are an embarrassing excursion? How about Chocolate World? Big crowd pleaser. There is a free ride where singing cows explain the chocolate making process. We also did a chocolate tasting and - the biggest hit - A. sat in his first movie theater for a 4D movie experience.  We still talk about Sour Von Sour... Lovely timing to buy Halloween candy.

We finally made it up to see the Corning Museum of Glass. The building and exhibits are pretty exciting even for the short attention span of the littles. We saw one of the glass blowing demos & ate in the comically multicultural cafe. We’ll have to head back when the kids are older for some of the hands-on activities. Love the tower of corningware showing off the different opacities & some of the older generation buildings in the complex.

It took us three year, but we got out to the Grange Fair. And then we went twice in one weekend. Super fun. A. loved hopping on all of the tractors. Yeah for the Grilled Cheese Cafe. Tons of rides with little man while the baby (O.) sat patiently in her stroller. And OMG tractor pulls. I really had no idea.

It has been two years since we played hookey on a day when the kids were in daycare. Totally fun and frivolous - we went shopping at the outlets in Hershey and got lunch in Harrisburg. Outlet shopping... it surprised us too, but many things feel like treats sans little people. We stumbled upon Ad Lib Craft Kitchen & Bar which had great small plate dishes, yummy beer, and a slick hipster meets hotel interior.

Great spot - water, picnic tables, snack bar, rental boats, playground, and short hikes. A quick trip for a little splashing around!

An afternoon finally checking out Horseshoe Curve and the surprisingly decked out Railroaders Memorial Museum. We saw three giant trains at the curve and next time we’ll know to bring a picnic! Gorgeous day.
