Steph Bulante is an illustrator currently studying at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her interests and artistic endeavors take shape in figurative illustration focusing on narrative, graphic novels, visual development, and cultural anthropology. She is currently working on a comic focusing on the experiences of second generation Asian-Americans and currently resides in a spooky apartment in Baltimore. Just launched, the Center for Art and Thought's virtual curated exhibition: Encounters. The group show features work by Katrina Bello, Kat Larson, Gina Osterloh, and Kenneth Tam.

This curated exhibition captures how art encounters the precarious realities set forth by the current political and social moment and the possibilities of new interpretive strategies by its viewers. While none of the works by the artists were created after the inauguration of Donald Trump, the artists’ representations take on layered meanings in this new political climate. What rises up from the works as we encounter them during these times?

Contributors’ works are published in staggered waves from March 14 until all the works have been revealed, after which the whole exhibition are archived permanently on CA+T’s website.

We need your support to cover CA+T’s nuts and bolts expenses—the operational costs that many grants do not cover.

Break, Burn, Hoard

We welcome Vince Schleitwiler as our new Artist-in-Residence! Dr. Schleitwiler is a scholar of comparative ethnic studies. His residency project is called the “City of Refuge,” inspired by Rudolph Fisher’s 1925 short story “The City of Refuge.” For the next two months or so, he will use the blog to recover and reactivate what he calls “lost Afro-Asian worlds,” the Black and Filipino “betrayed visions of a liberated future." New RaceCraft pieces up at Center for Art and Thought. 

Check out sculptor Tim Manalo’s “Imperial Floods,” a work commissioned for RaceCraft up of manila rope, bamboo twine, fibreglass resin, and bleach.
