also seriously if a character isn’t white, i promise your only descriptive options aren’t food words and varying degrees of tan. it’s okay to say brown. pale brown! light brown! golden brown! medium brown! dark brown! deep brown! so many kinds of brown!

pros of s/kam: the great rep

but like in all seriousness, i think this is a thing worth keeping in mind. i have these moments of being like “HOW could someone who did such good mental illness rep do such bad race rep, how could someone who did such good gay male rep just pretend lesbians don’t exist” and i have to stop myself and be like no, actually, that’s not surprising, that’s not uncommon, that’s not weird. people who can address problems of ableism gracefully are sometimes racist as hell, people who are perfectly comfortable with gay male sexuality are incredibly lesbophobic. s/kam deals really well with the intersection of sexuality and mental illness but really terribly with the intersection of gender and religion, and i shouldn’t be surprised by that, because those are categorically different issues and it’s possible for someone to be a great ally in some areas and really bigoted in others
