Reflection
I thoroughly enjoyed my Studio 1 Communication Design experience. The course, being split up into Essentials and Studio, provided me with a vast range of skills and knowledge.
The Essentials classes gave me a great insight into industry practice, as we learned how to write a project proposal, manage a project and plan a project. The skills we learned in Essentials will stick with me not only in this course, but in my future careers.
Moreover, the core classes of Studio 1 broadened my creative horizons, inspiring me to think in new ways about food and design. Taking on the topic of ‘tacit taste’ my class was challenged from the beginning, as most of us hadn’t heard of a tacit recipe. I loved how personal the responses were, as most people’s tacit recipe’s were something nostalgic or meaningful to them. When focusing on something so close to the heart, creativity definitely flows. Class activities such as the exquisite corpse and painting with food opened up opportunities for design, whilst giving us inspiration for our final pieces.
Andy’s lectures never failed to disappoint. Presenting us with a vast range of examples of food in design, I was continually inspired.
