Headcanon that Peter and Elias play battleships a lot. Elias always cheats by Seeing where Peter's pieces are. He denies it every time, but he keeps on mysteriously winning, and it's very obvious he's cheating. It's been the cause of at least 7 of their divorces.

Shannon Diaz (9-1-1) vs. Melanie King (The Magnus Archives)
Shannon Diaz
Melanie King

Melanie King painted by painted by Feifei Wang
Propaganda below the cut:
Melanie King:
She is flawed in many of the same ways as the male protagonist, and is upset and traumatized about the awful situation she has been trapped in, and she is hostile to people who threaten or mistreat her or dismiss her concerns about and proposed solutions to her situation, and is eventually physically violent in response to experienced and threatened physical violence done to her. Fandom flattens her to the mean girl who is mean to the protagonist for no reason who exists just to make him feel bad or scared, or alternatively as the woman who Got Therapy And Is Fixed so she can be one of fluffy background lesbians who are the Only Sensible Ones.
Melanie King is a paranormal investigator in a world where the paranormal is incredibly hostile to humans. She's proud and determined and got shot with a bullet made of The Fear of Indiscriminate Violence. She's also trapped in a manipulative supernatural organisation, and she's one of the few characters who actually leaves it, despite needing to blind herself to do it.
Shannon Diaz:
General hate against her as a woman and a mother, the indignity of people naming a man as her own son‘s ~mom figure~, general ugliness about her mistakes, no shades of grey or nuances allowed when you‘re a (fictional) woman I guess
Shannon Díaz got pregnant as a teenager, married the father who then fucked off to join the army and left her alone with their disabled child and his horrible family. When he came back she left him (and their kid) to take care of her dying mother because husband refused. They reconnected years later. And then she died. She deserves so much better than she got, and somehow fandom is still ugly towards her
Oh my god, not only did this woman commit the crime of being married to half of the big fandom ship, she also Was Cruel To A Child before being killed off. YOU CAN IMAGINE the stuff she gets blamed for. My favorite is people implying that she was somehow happier dying in a car crash at twenty-six than she would have been being a normal divorced co-parent.
She literally leaves her husband and her four year old with a note and nothing else for two years!!!!!!! and then bitterly regrets it and messily starts sleeping with her ex-husband (okay, technically they're still married,) while begging him to let her see their son again, and then she breaks up with him AGAIN. If this woman was a man, the whole fandom would be OBSESSED with her. She is JUICY. She is DRAMA. She is MESSY. She is traumatized and terrified and turned on and trying her best, and sometimes her best sucks. God I love her.
Fandom sees her as a road block to their ship; Treat her like a pariah for wanting to be her own person, aside from being a mother; act like her abandoning her child is somehow worse than when the father did the same thing
She became a mom at 19 in a conservative state. She was forced to marry her boyfriend at the time and then he left her to go to war, because he thought she needed a provider more than a partner. Meanwhile his family criticized her every move and made her feel like a bad mother and then villainized her for leaving when it became all too much
Fandom fails to acknowledge the nuances of her character, insists she is unforgivably a bad mother.
She was a teen mom, she unquestionably loved her kid, her husband (main character) left her with their son to go to war - by his own admission, he was using joining the military as a way to run away because he was scared. Well, Shannon was also scared! Strong evidence she was dealing with both PPD and in-laws who were negging her. So when he came home, she ran away. She was overwhelmed, and she didn't just go for no reason, she went to take care of her terminally ill mother, and she HAD initially been trying to convince her husband for them all to move to her mother as a family. So she left a note and she went and she ignored calls, and after a while she started to think: my son is better off without me. She did eventually come back, though she died shortly after. She haunts the narrative, but she's remembered as a concept. Mother and wife. Well EYE remember her. I remember she was young and scared and full of love and the fighting spirit. She loved sharing Christmas traditions with her son and understood the power of a token. She wanted better for herself and her son AND her husband so she asked for a divorce. She wanted to be there for them and she was realizing at the end there that she couldn't do that if she let her whole self be subsumed under the identity of someone's wife. And then she died. And somehow fans hate her.
as i slowly try to get over my arachnophobia i must confess i always thought it was silly when people told me "don't worry, they're more scared of you than you are of them!" like okay first of all i'm not even sure if thats true, most house spiders seem like they're kinda minding their own business while i am demonstrably freaking out. second of all if it IS true then it doesnt even change how scared i am. like great now we're both scared. i'm scared, the spiders scared, everythings fucked. lets just burn the house down hand in unlovable hand (and hand and hand and hand and hand and hand and hand and hand.)
^This. Like the tags said it is veeeery hard to get a spider on your hand they just hate touching you so much. Despite the fact that I'm not even a little bit scared or grossed out by bugs I still have to let spiders outside by the paper-and-cup method because trying to get one on your skin is just impossible.

Sorry I'm just getting a bit emotional about the optimism of TMA again. I don't know man, something about the specific way that the finale changed from what it was once meant to be to what it is now. Crazy to think that the plan at the beginning was for Jon to end up truly alone, with Martin betraying him as an avatar of the Web (or later on being taken away from him by the Web by force and uh. non-consensual spider-ing.) But then Martin was less a puppeteer and more a lonely defender and so he couldn't become an avatar. And then Jon and Martin were so so sooo important to each other in s5 that Jonny couldn't let Annabelle take Martin. Sure the magnus archives sure is a tragedy distributed by rusty quill and licenced under a 4.0 noncommercial sharealike international licence or whatever but it is not pessimistic. Did the love change the outcome? Not really. Could it have? Probably not. Did it change anything? Stars above, it changed everything that mattered. It wasn't important on a cosmic scale but neither are we and so even if the Fears, things of cosmic greatness, do not care whether Jon dies in the Panopticon alone or with Martin, we do.
you gotta be careful with horror that is an analogy for addiction because there will be a character with crippling vices who is taken advantage of by the villain and invokes the stigma of addiction to isolate him from others so he'll have less support and then you'll still get fans who are like 'idk the villain just was nicer to him about how its literally not his fault and its not bad to become Even More Addicted so i think it would have been better if they wound up together'
A conversation I don’t think yall are ready for yet is that you can love a character sooooo much and relate to them and see yourself in them but at the end of the day they’re still fake and that’s why someone else’s take on them or headcanon about them isn’t a direct message about you or insult to your identity. If your identity is so wrapped up in a character that you can’t distinguish between reality and fiction, then you are the problem. Not some random person online who interprets the character differently than you.
this also goes for when you hate a character soooooo much and relate them to every person who hurt you and see everyone you hate in them, at the end of the day they're still fake and someone else's love for them is not a commentary on your trauma
#i also think we should not be using 'i relate to the character' as a claim to authority on the character #just because you relate does not mean your interpretations are law for the rest of us or even correct or 'more accurate' than anyone else's #it just means you relate full stop lmao.
