For decades, the photographer Vivian Maier supported herself as a nanny in the wealthy enclaves of Chicago. But her real work was roaming the streets with her camera, capturing images of sublime spontaneity, wit, and compositional savvy. When pressed about her occupation by a man she once knew, she said, âI am sort of a spy.â All the best street photographers are.

I canât stop thinking about when Susan Sontag said âI donât feel guilt at being unsociable, though I may sometimes regret it because my loneliness is painful. But when I move into the world, it feels like a moral fall â like seeking love in a whorehouse.â
Are you fucking kidding to me?

People need to fully understand what RGBâs death means. Itâs not just a vacancy on the supreme court that could be potentially filled by a conservative Justice - thatâs an awful thought, but thatâs not the main problem.Â
The problem, is that this is EXACTLY the opportunity Republicans have been looking for for decades. If a conservative nominee is pushed through before the election, and Iâm hoping it wonât but if it does, that will lead to a Republican majority in the Supreme Court. And you can bet your life, literally, that they will work to roll back every progressive law they can.Â
The concept of a separation of church and state is already a joke in this country, but it will get so much worse.Â
But more than that? Even if a nominee isnât pushed throughâŚÂ
The vacancy RGB left behind will motivate Republicans to come out to vote in droves.Â
THAT is what everyone needs to understand. This is a once in a life time opportunity for the Republicans. You think you donât want to vote for Biden because heâs not exactly who you want? Because heâs not progressive enough or liberal enough?Â
What about all the Republicans who may not support Trump, but want a Republican majority on the Supreme Court? The ones who may not like him, but would be willing to deal with him for four more years if it means controlling the Supreme Court for the next 40?
Itâs awful and unfortunate that RGB died so close to the election. Throughout her life she worked tirelessly to fight for equality. Donât let her life be in vain.Â
Now more than ever, itâs important to vote. Everyone. Down the entire ballot.Â
Iâm lucky enough to live in California, a historically Blue state. But those of my followers who live in Red states, you especially need to call your representatives in the Senate and tell them to postpone any nomination. Cite Mitch McConnellâs own actions in 2016. Anything you can do to add pressure. Remind them who they really work for: you, their constituents.Â
We cannot give up the fight. We canât. Your vote matters. If it didnât, why would the GOP be trying so hard to take it away? Make sure youâre registered. If you want to mail in your ballot then drop it off at designated polling stations instead of the post office to ensure itâs counted in time.Â
I donât have many followers so I donât know who will see this, but please, reblog this. Spread the information. RBGâs death will galvanize Republicans out to vote en masse. We canât afford to be apathetic or disenfranchised. We can make a difference, but not if we donât bother to try.Â
