Santa Barbara - Jesusita Trail

Unfortunately, I cannot make it up to the mountains this weekend. But, I’ve been making a lot of maps lately which our turning out quite well. I’ve specifically been unhappy with the trail maps that I’ve seen available for the iPhone (which is what I use for a GPS), so I’ve been creating my own Georeferenced PDFs (which I use with Avenza’s PDF Maps) using information from the NY State GIS Clearinghouse combined with waypoints from Catskill Mountaineer. I now have trails on top of USGS Topographic maps as well as incredibly high resolution orhtoimagery, both of which can be viewed and used with an iPhone and its internal GPS (and all without cell service!). They’re pretty crude right now, but I’m still compiling all the information. Once I finish I will make them available for download.

Breakneck Ridge, Hudson Highlands State Park

I went to Taconic State Park over the weekend and hiked along the trail into Massachusetts (and Bash Bish Fall State Park). Really quite an easy walk (.75 miles from the parking lot in Taconic State Park), and I believe you can park even closer if you park on the Massachusetts side.
