I’m a 19 year old sophomore in art school working a part time bussing job at Red Lobster. I often don’t know where my next meal will come from and usually go to bed hungry 4 out of 7 days of the week. My mother hasn’t worked since I was in single digits and suffers from crippling depression that makes her lazy and unwilling to do the things needed around the house. To put it bluntly, my home is disgusting—my mother leaves days old food on the stove and the litterbox remains unchanged until my cats leave a present in the hallway. I’ve been struggling with my own anxiety issues since college started and have been focusing on making the grades I need to get a scholarship again next semester. My mother’s favorite pasttime is ignoring issues until they become prevalent enough to be a threat to her.

Here’s where the message of this post comes in: 

Here in Richmond, it’s getting to the bitterly cold winter months. I’ve been unemployed for the last month and currently have $20 to my name, which I’ve been rationing for gas to school and work. I’ve noticed in the recent colder weeks that all three of my cats have severe flea and earmite infestations. The last time one of my cats had mites, we had to have correctional surgery for his ear because it had filled with blood due to shaking his head—this cost us several hundred dollars and left my cat with a permanent deformity. The infestation has gotten so bad that I’ve noticed Irvine won’t even walk on the carpet in the living room—he immediately jumps to the next piece of furniture. In fact, none of my cats will stay on the floor. I’ve been trying to talk to my mom about getting them medical attention but she refuses to do anything due to our lack of income so I’ve been forced to watch them suffer. Not only that, but trying to encourage cleanliness in this house is nearly impossible and I’ve tried just about every home remedy for these pests that I know and they keep coming back. I fear for my cats’ safety from these pests and only hope I can help them before they contract some disease or worse

I love my animals. My cats mean the world to me. If I had the money to take them to the vet myself, I wouldn’t be asking tumblr’s help. But as it stands, I can barely afford to feed myself let alone a $200+ vet bill.

My calculated costs for veterinary attention is roughly $250 for the three of them including Advantage and Ivomec drops for earmites. 

If anyone could even spare even a few dollars, then maybe I can give my pets the care that they need.
