1). You can still do that without making the A stand for ally? Like you can just say you’re an ally and go to pride?? You don’t have to be on the list?? 

2). Surely if you’re closeted and don’t want to tell people you’re part of the community then including it as part of the community literally entirely defeats the point of that? Surely that then makes them unsafe?

3). Closeted people are still whatever their identity is? If you’re a closeted gay you’re still gay and therefore already included? If you’re not sure what your label is we have the Q (Queer/Questioning). You’re part of the community, you don’t need to be out for that and no one is being excluded because you’re literally already included. 

4). Ally literally means “supporter of the community” if you’re part of the community you can’t be an ally that’s not how it works !! Ally means you’re not part of it but you support us anyway because it’s the decent thing to do. You can be included in our spaces without actually being queer yourself. 

5). No matter how many times you say the A stands for ally and allies are part of the community that’s literally not how words work. When someone says LGBTQ+ films they mean… films with lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, asexual, aromantic etc. people in them not films with allies in them asdfghjkl. 

And I’m saying all this as someone who used to go on about being an ally before I came out. Yes, people absolutely do do that and that’s fine, it’s great in fact. But that doesn’t mean allies are automatically part of the community.

In fact, that’s the exact opposite of what it means and should mean. Allies are great. Allies are welcome at pride. But you’re not part of the community yourself, you’re a guest in our space.
