âYes. And violently? âViolently.
William Brewer, from Voices As Of Lions Coming Down (via aryadewinter)
suffering-and-strange:
âThatâs right, you havenât bought me dinner before.â Rabastan rested both his arms onto Cassiusâs shoulders, staring between his eyes as the other spoke. He noticed how unconsciously they leaned towards each other. In the back of his mind he thought about cracking a joke about Mulciberâs height, and it made him smile more.Â
The teen laughed at Cassiusâs words, tilting his head slightly, âJust because Iâm easy doesnât mean you canât woo me. Youâre not really the woo-ing type though.â Rabastan stuck his cigarette back into his mouth and took a drag as he ran a thumb over Cassiusâ cheek then touched the corner of his mouth. Holding the cigarette with his other hand, he turned away to not blow smoke in Mulciberâs face.Â
âYou strike me more as a, âskip class to fuck in a broom closet and buy coke with daddyâs moneyâ kinda type.â As much as he liked to poke fun, Rabastan was grateful to be able to see Cassius again. He was leaning over so much by now their foreheads were touching. Rabastan grinned and pressed a kiss to Mulciberâs lips before straightening up a bit and running his thumb over his cheek again. âYou could at least pretend to court me and get me alcohol. Iâm easy Mulciber, but I still have standards. At least slightly higher than âfuck a fourth year in the Potions supply closetâ.â His eyebrows raised as he continued to tease his friend.Â
He meant well in a way. But was also just funny to be an ass sometimes. Rabsatan knew by now, none of it would be taken personally by Mulciber. Itâs not like Rab really meant anything by his jabs anyway.Â
It irritated Cassius how Rabastan towered over him, but in an odd way, it almost made him feel safe. He liked to think of himself as big and strong and manly, a protector of those around him, but a small part of him found comfort in the way that Rabastan could wrap himself around him, shield him from the outside world. Protect him from the darkness in a way their parents never could, never would.Â
Cassius opened his mouth to retort, but he was cut off by a kiss to his lips. It came and went too fast, just a flash of warmth. There was an echo of this warmth in the thumb that stroked his cheek, hands that were usually used in cruelty so gentle, always with Cassius, only with Cassius. It almost made him feel pampered.Â
âLike you need me to get you booze,â he chuckled. âFine, Princess Rabbit, tell me what you want. Your wish is my command.â He leaned against a tree, pulling Rabastan against him. The dry tone of his voice was undercut by the affection in his eyes, the playful use of the nickname rabbit. Cassius had tried to use the French word for it, like Rodolphus did, but he inevitably garbled the word. The French kept too many letters silent-it was cruel, really.Â
rodolphxsheir:
Perhaps it was for the best that Rodolphus differentiated from Cassius in terms of character so much. A life of endless aggression and constant snaps was unimaginable to the young heir. However, the viciousness and total dominance with which Cassius walked over those the Knights fought against, those that deserved to be dominated was unmatchable. Mulciber was a soldier respected for his brute strength, rather than sharp intellect, and standing here in the lionsâ den Rodolphus wished to open his brain and make him think for his actions. He needed no brainless fighters, but the best from the best.
A plan all too dangerous was brewing in the heirâs brain. Point him in the direction of your intentions and heâll have no choice but to subject. To listen. To be subtle and elegant with his victims, ripping them in half with finesse and blood splattering over hands like paint. To know when to speak and how to speak, not to cause uncontrollable chaos that was too risky for the well being of their Cause. The voices of excited Hufflepuffs and screaming Gryffindors engulfed the two Knights in a tight embrace, Rodolphusâ brain pounding but not yet completely exploding.
An almost innocent, sly smile was sent towards the other Slytherin, a hand falling on the boyâs shoulder for a short while before landing back to Rodâs side. âQuite boring, indeed. Those imbeciles suffocate me.â words in need of no decoding, embers dancing in the leaderâs eyes. Hazels traveled to the bottle in Cassiusâ hands, trying to read his body language before anything else. âHowever, perhaps we could spark up the mood, Cassius. What would you do to have a little bit more fun around here?â
The sly smile growing on Rodolphusâ lips intrigued Cassius, making him wonder what the other boy had in store. Perhaps there was something more to the evening than met the eye-or at least, Cassius hoped that someone had something planned, beyond the scavenger hunt. Next time, he decided, Slytherins needed to host the party. They knew how to have fun, without behaving like shrieking children.Â
âWhat do you have in mind?â Cassius asked, a slight smirk tugging on his lips. His eyes scanned the room, cool and shark-like, seeking out the potential in the party, the room for chaos. That was where Cassius thrived, in the midst of the uncontrollable, dragging everyone to his own level of animal depravity. He knew this depravity was what made him an asset to the Knights, and Cassius took a twisted sort of pride in it.Â
âShould we have a talk with some of the Mudbloods here?â he murmured. âThey all look a little too comfortable, and with the circulating booze, everyoneâs guard is down.âÂ

rosalieselwyn:
Rosalie couldnât deny the small wince that was briefly depicted upon her features at Cassiusâ reply. You canât be serious. She knew it had been a bad idea from the start to mention Ted of all people, but she really hoped that she could at least salvage this before things got out of hand. Watching his features to have a mirthless smile appearing upon her lips, she knew that there was only two options to go from there.Â
However, she always believed in standing up for her family and friends, so it seemed there was truly one option. âOf course Iâm serious. Heâs a person too, you know.â She snapped, not amused at the way he thought that she was joking. She could have easily caved under his words, but there was something about his self-righteous attitude that was getting underneath her skin. This was getting out of hand just as she wanted to contain it.
The startled half-smile on Cassiusâ lips faded, twisting into a snarl. The way she snapped at him, the way she spoke as if he really was a person. It made Cassius feel betrayed, if someone as integral to Pureblood society as a Selwyn could be a blood traitor. It felt like the Muggle poison was seeping into their ranks, corrupting the purest, the most innocent. It was now another person Cassius had lost.Â
âNo, heâs not. Theyâre fucking animals, Rosalie. Muggles burn us alive, and then steal our magic to create Mudbloods like Tonks,â Cassius growled. âYou know better. You know what itâs really like, youâre not a blood traitor. Itâs not too late to take it back, to be a good Pureblood. I only want to look out for you.â His tone was tinted with anger, but fundamentally concerned, sincere. He really did like her, and didnât want to watch her slip away.Â

florencefawlcy:
Florence would be lying if she said she didnât know who was standing in front of her. Many people, especially people in her house and her year would be terrified of the boy standing in front of her. But Florence saw him as just that: a boy. He was a boy who was just as scared of the little things that she was probably scared of. Floâs overwhelming love for people occasionally had a blinding effect on the way she saw the world and the people inhabited it.Â
And so, maybe that was why she uncrossed her arms and instead clasped her hands behind her back to smile at him. âI think I can handle it,â Flo said, tilting her head. âThey wouldnât have given me a prefect badge unless someone thought so, right? Nothing too scary, really. You Slytherinâs arenât all that bad, really. I think snakes are quite cute.â
There was no doubt in her mind that Mulciber wasnât moving from his spot against the wall, but that didnât mean Florence wouldnât try. Few things were as serious as her love for people, and doing her job as prefect was one of them. Unfortunately for her, it got her in these situations with people that she really should stay clear from.
âListen, if you just go back to your common room now, Iâll leave the detention slip in my pocket and you can say you didnât get a detention on the first day. Start a new tradition. Sounds like a good time to me, really.â She smiled sweetly, tilting her head to the side as though she was a little puppy dog.
There was something fundamentally grating in the way she looked at him, the way she spoke. Anger, fear, those Cassius could process. With a few people, Cassius enjoyed casual affection and interest. Florence was different, though. She just looked at him, at anyone else, at a suit of armor or a live hand grenade with those bambi eyes, like everything in the world was magical and glittery. It made him want to Crucio her.
âAre you saying Iâm cute?â Cassius laughed, but the sound was dry, almost forced. He took a step forward, waiting to see a flash of hesitance in those wide eyes, a sense of fear lurking behind the sweetness. Or perhaps she wasnât intimidated because, behind all the innocence, she was attracted to the grotesque. Perhaps when she said she thought snakes were cute...she liked the poison.Â
âHow about this?â His much larger frame dwarfed hers, crowding her against the wall. âYou forget I was here, and Iâll leave you alone. Wonât lay a finger on you.â He raised his eyebrows. âIf thatâs what you want.â

arosenamedevan:
According to Nikolai Cassius Mulciber could be valuable. Evan failed to see, how. The boy was volatile, crude and not particularly bright. Dangerous and unpredictable in a way that made Evanâs skin tingle with discomfort. And yet he was supposed to be an asset, so Evan, no matter if he liked it or not, should at least be civil.
He watched with a raised eyebrow as Cassius levitated the book over and into his lap. There was little finesse in his performance of the spell, he didnât possess any of the elegence Evan prided himself on. He refrained from commenting on it however, instead focusing on Cassiusâ textbook.
âI do not believe in doing other peopleâs work for them.â He explained and crossed his legs. âHow would that be beneficial for you? Ultimately, you still wouldnât have learned a thing.â Laziness was something Evan simply didnât understand. As far as he was concerned Cassius was only digging his own grave and should be a lot more concerned about his education. If he was ever to be in any way valuable, heâd need a lot of work. Â Evan closed the book and levitated it back to Cassius, non-verbally and much gentler than the younger boy had. âDo your homework, Mulciber. And when youâre done, come to me. Iâll tell you if youâve done it correctly or not.â
The condescension in Evanâs tone was grating, even if his words were largely accurate. He reminded Cassius irritatingly of his own father, who once bemoaned Cassiusâ grades, before finally giving up on him. It was a pattern in Cassiusâ life, and he was surprised that Evan would even consider that Cassius could learn.Â
âI donât need you to play tutor to me,â Cassius sneered. âIâm not fucking stupid, Rosier.â He didnât believe that, but it didnât matter. Cassius had some modicum of pride-or at least the projection of it, even if it surfaced in a different way than the other boys. He didnât have the slick eloquence of the other boys, never had. Cassius was much more blunt in nature.Â
âWhy would you even help me?â he asked, a suspicious edge to his voice. Every inch of the boyâs face read disdain, yet he was still offering to put the time in to help Cassius.Â

She was tipsy, or she was over the top. Nonetheless the world didnât quite look right, and she walked with slower steps in order to make sure it didnât fall away from her. But between the glances at her shoes and the awe of the people surrounding her, a particular figure caught her eye. Oh, a figure she knew. And one she didnât detest with that! She was so lucky, wasnât she just? The bottle swung back and forth in her grip, lazily, as if it could simply drop to the ground and shatter beneath her. ( Maybe that would be a blessing. Maybe she had enough running through her veins already ââ but it was never enough for her. )Â
âYou, Cassius Mulciber,â she called across to him, but it sounded like it was from a distant voice. âI need to talk to you.â
Cassius was in the midst of a deep sulk. Lips jutted into a pout, nursing on his beer, skulking in the corner sulk. Rodolphus and Rabastan had decided to partner for the scavenger hunt, leaving a miserable Cassius in the common room. He was trying to avoid Micah, not wanting to deal with the angriest Bones. Making eye contact with Emma, a small smile tugged on his lips. Cassius had always liked her.Â
âYeah? Whatâs so important, Vanity?â he asked, eyeing the nearly empty bottle that was swinging from her hands.Â
(HOW DID YOU SURVIVE?) they ask. how much did they have you bleed; how long did they make you suffer; how low did they force you down; how dark did they tint your dreams? Â Â Â âuntil you had their blood glistening on your teeth; Â Â Â âuntil your suffering paled in comparison to their own; Â Â Â âuntil it was their throats pinned under your boot; Â Â Â âuntil you learned to enjoy the sounds of screams. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (I DIDNâT.) you reply.

suffering-and-strange:
âI think Dumbledore would trust a troll with a prefect badge more than you, at this point.â He couldnât help but poke fun; of course they both knew how close Cassius came to expulsion because of the Mary incident.Â
Rabastan held the cigarette between his teeth and smiled around it when Cassius laughed at him. Holding it again he let out his own laugh at Cassiusâs dry proclamation of love. At the mention of him actually getting something for Cassius he raised his eyebrows in question. Really, had he? The other boy was close enough to drape an arm over his shoulder, fingers idly running through the hair at the nape of Cassiusâs neck.Â
He barked out a laugh in surprise when Mulciber grabbed his ass. What a romantic, huh? He missed Cassius, as crude as his humor and affections were. Almost anything was better than the harsh solitude of his home. âYouâre a modern Romeo, arenât you?â Rabastan smiled down at Cassius.Â
The teen took another drag from the cigarette before cupping Cassiusâs face with the hand that held it, staring the other down. He really had missed Cassius. It was hard to even recall a moment heâd enjoyed over break without him. His expression was blank for a few moments before his smile was returning and he was pushing aside Mulciberâs bangs, âShouldnât you buy me dinner first, Casanova?âÂ
There was something comforting, how Rabastan so easily draped an arm around him. He felt a slight shiver on his skin at the touches against his neck, Rabastan so easily toying with him without even realizing it. Cassius would never admit it, how much of an impact his best friend had on him. How even the slightest of smiles enthralled him.Â
âIâve never bought you dinner before. Youâre hardly a classy one,â he teased, leaning in ever so slightly, so his lips were just barely apart from the otherâs. Cassius knew how this would look, if anyone walked past them, but this was their safe space, their corner away from the world. He couldnât think such thoughts, even comprehend anything infringing on this moment.Â
âLetâs face it, Lestrange. Youâre easier than any bird Iâve ever had,â he drawled, a proud grin spreading across his lips.Â
Perhaps, in another life, if people accepted the way they were, Cassius would have been proud to show off Rabastan, wanted everyone to know the relationship they shared. He was proud to be friends with Rabastan, certainly, but part of Cassius wished everyone knew the other dynamic their relationship shared. That someone as beautiful as Rabastan was warming his bed, someone as intelligent and witty and powerful. Maybe in this other life, they could write letters and talk about love without a hint of irony.Â
for @cassiusm
Members of all houses swarmed the Gryffindor common room - Ravenclaws mixing drinks to attain the highest potency, Hufflepuffs dancing in the center of the room without a care in the world, Slytherins besting Lions at their own dares. It exhilarated Marlene, this atmosphere of united celebration - well, that and the copious amounts of liquor sheâd already managed to consume. Not quite pissed drunk, although nowhere near sober, there was very little semblance of tact left within her. ( If someone told her to hold her hand in the fire, she probably would have without waiting to hear what was in it for her. )
Therefore, when she very clearly bumped into Cassius Mulciber and spilt her drink on him, she decided that it was his fault ( it wasnât ), and said to him, âThat was a dreadful waste of good butterbeer. I wonder - has anyone called you an arse today? If not, youâre an arse and you should watch where youâre going. If someone has, then youâve almost met your quota.â
Cassius thought the worst possible thing in the world was a room full of Gryffindors.Â
He was wrong. The worst thing possible was a room full of drunk GryffindorsÂ
Cassius did his best not to make eye-contact with any of these miscreants, not wanting to be seen associating with any of these people. He had lost track of his fellow Slytherins, and was now hidden in the corner, nursing his drink, until he was suddenly crashed into.Â
âWhat the hell, McKinnon?â he barked, taking a step backwards. Cassius looked down at his Butterbeer-stained robes, before looking up at Marlene, a snarl twisting his lips. He took a step forward, not able to believe that the Gryffindors would invite him to this party and then treat him like this. âListen, you dumb bitch, you crashed into me. Now apologize, before you really piss me off.â
