Final 322: NYC 1980βs, Earth Art, Feminism
The entire canvas is supposed to oppose itself, the wording being βNow soft gothβ versus the bright, floral, and happy theme. When flipping through my magazines, one magazine was encouraging men and women to be goth, but not too goth. The other magazine was encouraging βfeminineβ characteristics. I thought it was humorous that the magazines were saying two totally different things are the βnew trendβ. This is why I chose the words βNow soft gothβ because I thought it was humorous, considering the different βnew trendsβ.Β
The flowers represent earth art, I cut flowers from a bouquet that was given to me to create a mini-garden. I added pearly light paint as a background, I think that helped all the colors stand out. The flowers also oppose the idea of being goth, and embrace what is apparently not the trend in the particular magazine. I also drew flowers with paint markers, and added gold paint to them.Β
The dancing people holding hearts also oppose the βNow soft gothβ and represent NYC 1980s art. I added paint with texture for the hearts and used chalk markers to paint their bodies. To add a little more, I scribbled inside the bodies to make it separate more from the background.Β
I love the use of flowers and how they contrast with the words you chose!
