Chicago was like night and day. Some days were boring and normal, the kind of beige day that made him want to headbutt his way out of where he was staying. Then there were other days, days he met lightning wolves that turned into painfully gorgeous, cocky bastards or others with anti-grav motorbikes and teenagers that work for multi-million quid businesses. And yet, it was still more preferable to home; something about the freedom was nice; keeping away from the inevitable fight waiting for him felt good.
Adam had taken up jogging in the evenings he didn’t have any other plans, already having met a handful of guys he could call on if he wanted; Aleki for a drink, Levi for…well, whatever, Elijah for a workout. He was making friends here and it felt good, different from back home where people kept to their own circle. That night Adam was going for another jog, working off the beer that would’ve probably given other people the beginnings of liver failure; he was that bored.
His step had faltered when he saw a bright, orange flash up ahead, trundling to a stop as he pulled his earbuds out. He wasn’t stupid enough to think this wasn’t Conduit related; this was Chicago where people just used out in the open. Remembering Muscles and the drone thing he’s mauled as a lightning wolf, Adam crept closer, ready for…well, whatever?
“Wow Jesus!” There was stumbling upon something, and then there was feeling like Sarah Connor being loomed upon by the damn Terminator! That was how his shock felt as she came around the corner like a bloody murderous spectre, his heart lurching and time slowing around him defensively, instinctively preparing to save himself from hurt that never came. In just a second, time slid back to normal and Adam was scowling at the woman - girl? “The hell I need to leave for the hell’re you doin’ scarin’ the bejesus outta me!” Adam retorted, heaping in breath, his eyes glancing over her shoulder: had she been the source or was someone else around…? She did seem agitated…
“I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to scare you” When it was beyond clear that her assumptions rang true, Cassie allowed her guard to drop a little. A heavy sigh blew out of her tiny frame, eyes darting around to make sure there was no sign of anyone coming their way. She crouched down, bare hand to the ground so she was able to read the vibrations for any sign of people stumbling upon them. At the moment, they seemed to be safe but that didn’t mean things couldn’t change in an instant.
The girl stood up straight, arms firmly by her side as she tried to hide the annoyance she felt as he began to protest. The destruction around them was not from her, but it very well could have been. She had levelled a forest once, after all. It was clear to her that he wasn’t fully aware of the situation he had literally stumbled into and she really didn’t have time to argue and prove her point. Any other time, she would, but tonight it different.
To answer his question, she stubbornly threw her hands to her side, using the backdrop as a reason should be self-explanatory “If you stay you’re gonna get in the middle of something you really don’t need to be in the middle of” she tried to leave out any and all details, unaware of his own situation as assuming that he was nothing more than a human in the wrong place at the wrong time “I’m just tryin’ to get this kid out of here safely- I don’t need another head to worry about so just fucking run, alright?” Time was precious in these situations, she didn’t have time to argue but she didn’t want to risk him being caught up with the guy who was after her.
