X-Men Hair Color Headcanons!
So the x-men have… a lot of gingers. (As a ginger myself I appreciate that) In fact, there are some characters that Marvel can’t seem to decide if they’re gingers or brunettes. So I thought I would share how I see their hair. This is my hair color head cannons for MOST of the main ginger mutants.
Obviously, we have to start with Jean Gray as she is the most famous ginger mutant and the most consistently ginger. I do think her hair would still be very bright and lighter, more on the side of orange than Auburn. But definitely more natural looking than it’s looked in some past movies. As Phoenix, her hair would get brighter and appear more orange, but it’s mostly just glow from her powers. The color didn’t change at all and it’s definitely still natural looking.
If we did Jean Gray first than naturally next is Scott Summers. I know some of you are probably thinking, wait but Scott Summers has brown hair. Yes in some movies he does, but his hair does look red in X-Men 97 (though it could just be the art style), and it was recently announced that he was going to be played in the MCU by Kit Connor who is famously ginger. I do still think Scott’s hair is much more on the brown side, so much so that he wouldn’t call it red. but it definitely has red undertones and looks pretty red in sunlight. (or when he’s using his bright red lasers, obviously)
Next is Banshee, who is canonically Strawberry blonde (at least that’s what it says on his wiki) however, strawberry blonde is a very subjective term and I’ve seen his hair be drawn very clearly ginger in some comics. I air on the side of ginger, I think he would have very light orange hair, there’s a bit of blonde in it, but it’s still very clearly ginger. If you want more specifics, I literally just picture Domhnall Gleeson.
Next is mystique, she is quite simple. Bright ariel red, yes it’s natural, End of story.
now we get to the ones that are often debated if they are ginger or not. Like always I air on the side of ginger. First we have rogue, obviously nothing needs to be said about her white streaks. That’s pretty straightforward. Though I definitely prefer a more natural white look to bright white. As for the rest of her hair, I think she has a very dark rich auburn, but it is still very clearly naturally red, and can be extremely vibrant in sunlight.
Next, we have gambit. My personal favorite character. This one might be controversial I don’t know. Is his hair brown or red??? I say both. I think he does have naturally brown hair. But he frequently dyes it. The color of the dye varies from a vibrant cherry red to an almost burgundy color. But it is very clearly and intentionally, an unnatural color. He just thinks it’s fun. His hair will appear more brown when his hair dye is fading but also when he’s in a bad headspace and doesn’t have the energy for the upkeep. Though constant dye jobs has made his hair undertone a bit redder. He feels most confident when his hair is dyed.
(see I gave you 1/2 of a brunette)
