YouTube trying to show me an Ancient Aliens episode about Akhenaten.
"Pharaoh or ALIEN BEING?!"
Pharoah. There. Glad we cleared that up.
He was a weird dude to be sure but we have mummies of a bunch of his relatives (up to debate if we have his mummy or not) and it's all human DNA. Super inbred, of course, but human.
Minor cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to the hospital cafeteria in my hometown. 🙃
When I'm not sure if what I'm looking at is real or AI now, I find myself looking for the flaws. Not too many fingers or garbled text. Real flaws. Broken paving. Weeds. A pile of laundry in the background, or a snack wrapper. Worn spots in the car seat. And I'm not saying that's a sure way of identifying whether something's AI or not. But I am starting to value those imperfections in a new way.
Ok now I’m curious… Which do you prefer:
I have lived in and out of the city, I prefer the city
I have only lived in the city, I prefer the city
I have only lived out of the city, I prefer the city
I have lived in and out of the city, I prefer out of the city
I have only lived in the city, I prefer out of the city
I have only lived out of the city, I prefer out of the city

Touting the new line of currency as an important way to recognize the many babes bagged by the commander-in-chief over the years, the U.S. Mint announced plans Wednesday to release a series of gold coins commemorating President Donald Trump’s extramarital affairs. “These coins will allow Americans to celebrate their nation’s semiquincentennial by collecting 50 of Trump’s sidepieces throughout history,” said U.S. Mint director Paul Hollis, adding that the line of tokens would feature the president on the front and a portrait of the model or porn star with whom Trump cheated on the back.

America’s finest young scholars competed to mark their country's birthday. It led to a disputed finish in the age of mistrust.
Looked over the library's emergency preparedness document and was horrified to discover that I'm fifth in line to be in charge.
Director is obviously in charge, then the succession as follows:
Assistant Director
Head of Youth
Head of Reference
Systems Admin
Collection Development (me)
Deputy of Youth
Chair of Library Trustees

I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.

hey so filming people without their consent is weird. you know that right? filming people you don't know and they aren't aware of what you're doing is creepy. posting strangers online is fucking weird. we're too comfortable with doing it now for shits and giggles, chasing some sort of viral hit instead of reckoning with the fact that you posted someone who did not consent to their body and face being publically used.
we're being pushed these Meta Glasses as if mass surveillance of strangers is fun and normal! it's weird!!! there are already reports that people are using these to film women without them knowing and sharing it to communities who get off on this shit. who else knows who people are filming. these glasses with cameras are not obvious and that is dangerous.
We had a drag storytime at the library this weekend and the director was prepared to march into battle over it, all these contingency plans in place and then . . . it was fine. Some people bitched about it online but couldn't be bothered to come out and complain in person, and everyone had a good time.
It's not surprising because we're a pretty liberal town, especially for New Hampshire, but the thing that befuddles me about this is how it is completely optional. If you don't like the idea, don't bring your kids! It's really very simple! And people complain about the tax dollars, but programs are funded (at least in our library) primarily by the Friends of the Library! So, sure, I guess your tax dollars paid for the lights and staffing, but they didn't pay the performers directly, and staff would have been there and lights would have been on anyway.

Trying to figure out who the 18th dynasty mummies are and how they are related to each other is somehow even more frustrating that trying to figure out which of the Grand Duchesses was missing from the Romanov grave.
Like ONE of the girls was buried separately with their brother but which one?!? Either the age estimates on the bones are wrong or the height estimates are wrong. The American and Russian teams came to different conclusions about whether Maria or Anastasia was missing.
Likewise with the mummies, they did DNA analysis like 15 years ago but these people were, uh, famously super inbred, so I'm a little skeptical about how useful that was. It's not a family tree so much as a family knot.
But anyway they think the KV55 mummy is Tut's father and KV35 Younger Lady is his mother. They also think KV55 and KV35YL are full siblings, children of Amenhotep III and Tiye. But if Tut's father is Akhenaten, then the age estimate on KV55 is wrong--almost all studies say KV55 was around 20 when he died, and Akhenaten ruled for 17 years and seems to have already fathered at least one child by the time he took the throne or very shortly thereafter. So Akhenaten's gotta be at least 30. Does that mean Tut's father isn't Akhenaten? Then who is this mummy? If he's a son of Amenhotep and Tiye then he's Akhenaten's brother. So Tut's his nephew? Or all they just so inbred that it's impossible to tell the exact relationships?!?!
Likewise KV21a could be the mother of the babies in Tut's tomb, so she's presumably his wife Ankhesenamun. But Ankhesenamun we know for sure was Akhenaten and Nefertiti's daughter, her birth name was Ankhesenpaaten and she was all over the tombs and temples and stuff, and apparently the DNA says KV55 can't be KV21a's father. But KV21b could be her mother (so Nefertiti?!?). Tut wasn't known to have any other wives and the babies have alleles from mutual ancestors of Tut and Ankhesenamun that they didn't get from Tut so like, the mother has gotta be her or a DIFFERENT close relative.
So is KV55 actually Smenkhkare? Is he Tut's father? It sort of makes sense? It was always weird that there were apparently all these shenanigans of co-regents and possible female pharaohs after Akhenaten's death if he had a biological son right there, even if he was only a child. But if Smenkhkare is Akhenaten's younger brother and Tut was Smenkhkare's son, then it makes sense that Smenkhkhare would reign first (and die almost immediately) and that Nefertiti might try to take power--Tut isn't her kid or even her husband's kid, he's a nephew (and eventually son-in-law).
And this would mean Tut didn't marry his sister or half-sister after all. He married his cousin. Which by Egyptian royal standards is pretty good!
But then I'm back to "I don't know that these tentative family links actually can be determined" because, again, the inbreeding. "DNA suggests they are close relatives" um, yeah, they all are. I think you'd have to do full DNA profiles to be certain rather just compare shared alleles or whatever.
