Hey, so I know this is super personal. But how much does a road merch manager make? I'm asking because I've been a merch seller so many times, usually make $100, more if it's a festival. But Like how does it work on the road? I've heard both salaries and percentage wise answers. Also how does Warped tour work with your day being so much longer than normal tours? I'm genuinely asking because I feel like I'm on the verge of getting a touring gig, and I have no idea how much to ask for.
Firstly, id like to apologize since i genuinely have not been on tumblr in a few years, so i hope you got the gig!
Alright lets get to it the, huh!
The income varies from artist to artist and so there will never be an agreed upon salery. However there is a ballpark on how much you should be making in correlation to how much merchandise the artist sells and how much you work.
To overly simplify everything, if you are very good at your job and the artist you work for is selling out shows and making about $6 a head, then i would say this should be the range of what you should be getting paid.
300 - 500 cap rooms: $700-$900 a week.
600- 1,000 cap rooms: $1,000 - $1,200 a week
1,250 Cap & higher: Totally dependent on way to many variables.
Hope this helped, again this is sooooooo loosely speaking and should not be taken as anything but a soft recommendation.
As for warped tour (RIP), the length of the days has little to do with the pay. I believe pay should be determined by just how much work you're doing. On warped some artist are small and just starting and so they don't really have massive sales and because of it, it wouldst be uncommon for the merch person to have a good amount of downtime, and so it would be unfair for the artist to pay them large sums of money when all they're doing is sitting in a tent listening to live music and chatting with friends.
Again, this is an over simplification, and I'm not saying you should be making $300 a week on warped tour, but im also not saying that because you work 8am to 8pm that you should be making $2,500 a week to just sit there.
Thank you for your question and i hope all is well. Maybe ill catch you on a tour!
