Opal and Pearl were researching an Earth term after overhearing a human speak about it.

"Bi.. rth.. day..." Opal typed into the computer. The results loaded and Pearl read them aloud

"The day someone or something was born, created, or began. A celebration."

Opal brought a hand to her chin "Creation celebration... when were you created?"

"70096 years ago! Perfect and ready for my dear Opal and Spinel." Pearl did a sweeping bow, while still holding her head up.

"I meant what day, silly."

"I don't know. The day a gem is created is not logged. None of us have a 'birthday.'"

"Well then," Opal grabbed Pearl's hands "Why don't we make it Spinel's birthday tomorrow? Spinel loves parties and fun, and that's what a celebration is, right?"

"Ah, of course!" Pearl smiled and turned her head "Though, what exactly do we do for a celebration? Spinel was always the one to plan them, not us."

"We can figure something out! You're smart."

Pearl brushed her hair out her face and typed 'birthday celebration examples' into the computer and looked at the images attached. "A cake, balloons, the.. stringy things and a 'happy birthday' banner. We can find those in a store, I believe. There are letters on the cake as well... what are those..." Pearl leaned in closer to the screen, trying to get a better look.

"Zoom in on the computer, not with your eyes, remember?"

"Oh, right. I remember."

Pearl and Opal walked out of the shop with their celebration materials after looking around for a few hours. The plan was for one of them to distract Spinel and the other set up their home for the party! ...Could one really call a party a 'party' if there's only three gems there? 

Opal set the bags down on the table "Okay, I'll put all the decorations up and you'll go and distract Spinel for a while! I bet they'll LOVE this!"

"Love this, yes! I'll do my best."

"Yeah, you'll do great!" Opal spun Pearl around and then put her back on the ground "Distract them! Quick!"

Pearl nodded and went off to find Spinel.

"Spinel! Spinel come here!"

Spinel flipped over to Pearl's side hugging onto her side "Hi Pearl! What's up?"

"Well..." Pearl thought for a moment coming up with something to say "I was thinking about going to the donut store that we saw the other day. Would you like to come with me?"

"The Big Donut! Yeah!" 

Pearl held out her hand, letting Spinel take it and led her to the front door "Let's go then."

"Did Opal not want to come?"

"She's... um.. she's busy right now." 

"Oh! Okay!"

Pearl smiled to herself. What an easy lie...

They made their way to the Big Donut and Spinel ordered two donuts for the both of them. The donuts they ordered happened to be "Yellow..?"

"Like Yellow Diamond! Cool, right? Humans are interesting with their foods. There's food in every shape, size, and color, kind of like gems. And they taste good!"

"Like gems..." Pearl repeated under her breath, looking at Spinel enjoying her donut 

"Hey, we should bring a donut back for Opal! I think she'd like one!"

"Um, yes." Pearl tilted her head to the side "I'm sure she would." 

Pearl watched Spinel eat their snack, up until the last bite where Spinel turned to her and questioned "Were you going to eat your donut?"  

"Of course. I was making sure you finished yours first."

"You don't have to, Pearl! Just enjoy your food!" Spinel jumped up, putting their hand on their forehead and looking at the sky as Pearl ate her donut "I wonder if Opal is done being busy?"

Pearl took a few bites of the donut and stood up, putting the snack into a napkin for later "She should be. Do you want to go back now?"

"Yeah! What about her donut?"

"Her donut..." Pearl looked away this day was meant to be for Spinel, yet they keep bringing up Opal. How could Pearl distract them for longer? "Um... We'll get her one. But don't you want to visit another place?"

"Like where?"

"Perhaps the arcade, do you remember when we saw it when exploring the Beach City?"

Spinel gasped and jumped "THE ARCADE! I remember! On the computer it said that arcades are supposed to be fun!"

"Yes, fun! Let's go find it."

Spinel ran off and Pearl followed close behind. This can give Opal more time to get everything ready, just for Spinel!

Opal hung up the 'happy birthday' banner and put her hands on her hips

"Looks good! Yay! Now the confetti for when they walk in!" She sat on the floor and looked at her progress "Wow I did way more than I thought I would, especially for the small amount of time. I hope Pearl and Spinel are having fun!"

Opal grabbed a part hat and balled up her fist "And now I just gotta finish! That shouldn't be so hard."

Pearl and Spinel finally came back home and Pearl knocked on the door, calling out for Opal. She cracked open the door and peeking inside, where Spinel squeezed through and yelled out

"WE'RE HOME- huh?" Spinel looked around. There was a banner up, party hats, streamers, even balloons and a cake! "What's all this? Cake?"

"Oh- you guys are back!" Opal swiped confetti and a party blower off the table, throwing the confetti in the air and blowing into the noisemaker, Pearl rushed to her side, her arms waving from both sides of her 

"Happy birthday, Spinel!" Pearl and Opal sang out 

Spinel pointed at themself "You guys... set up a party.. for me?" Their shocked face quickly turned to a bug smile as they pulled Opal and Pearl into a hug
