life's a beach

I’m a school counselor at a low income, title 1 school in Virginia Beach. Every year, one of the local high schools fundraises money and gifts to give these kids a day they’ll never forget. Every student (about 430 kids) each got a bag full of snacks, and two gifts from Santa. The high school kids dress up as elves and spend the whole day in the building reading and doing crafts with each class. A snow machine is brought in and you can just FEEL the holiday spirit.

I think we all can infer from the title what this will be about and as someone who went through it with her mom, I just want to hug you and tell you everything’s going to be okay, even if it might not be so

Got word tonight that someone I’ve known since 3rd grade passed. This is the second friend from that class to pass away in 2 years. My heart is just so broken... I wasn’t as close with the most recent one, but it’s incredibly.... earth shattering to lose a friend. Both of these passings were completely preventable. Check on your friends, old and new. Help them make good choices, help them get help.
