Happy Barricade Day from George Blagden I guess
https://twitter.com/gblagden/status/739594821602545669
https://vimeo.com/169469516
I am BEGGING someone to write a saccharine, genuinely sweet gay romance movie with no subtext or thematic analysis. Not EVERY gay romance should be a disturbing body horror film or examining an unhealthy power dynamic.
Fire Island
I have art that I'll post tomorrow but for today take some substandard contrapuntal poems for Barricade Day!!!
Grantaire and Enjolras:
Javert and Valjean:
Fantine and Cosette:
And Gavroche and Ăponine:
@barricadeday (no clue if that's just for art sorry if not)
the other day one of my students asked me if i was 'into musicals'. anyway here's a crop of a wip i've had sitting open in photoshop for a year and a half.
A Group Which Almost Became HistoricÂ
It's been over a decade since I first read Les Mis, and first drew this, (which still floats around in reblogs, the original post now being deleted with my old blog) and I thought I ought to finish this for Barricade Day. At the time, that illustration was the most ambitious I had ever drawn.
In the last ten years, Les Mis has perhaps felt more pertinent than ever. In Australia, where I live, bigoted, far-right political parties that were previously considered fringe are leading polls on the back of racist, anti-immigration rhetoric. I donate regularly to a charity that supports refugees that is local to me, the Asylum Seeker Resource Center, and am going to do so again today. I encourage you to do the same, either to the ASRC, or to an equivalent charity in your area.
"So long as there shall exist, by virtue of law and custom, decrees of damnation pronounced by society, artificially creating hells amid the civilization of earth... books of the nature of Les MisĂŠrables cannot fail to be of use." â Victor Hugo

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is âinternationalâ pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isnât our pride, itâs theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that âyou owe your rights to Black trans womenâ is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) MÄori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa donât even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we donât.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. iâm truly sorry that most of you donât see the negative impact your nationâs culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and cultureâs queer history, donât accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
guys not to alarm anyone but i feel like lamarque is ill and fading fast

As an aroace girly, I think people are placing too much importance on a kiss. Itâs not needed when their relationship and bond does all the talking.
GO hot take apparently
Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.

it's alright if you didn't like it but I draw the line at calling it homophobic and queerbaiting. grow the heck up. Heated Rivalry deranged y'all's brains.
of course it's not the ending we wanted, but it's an ending that makes sense
