I love hcing Edge as just being like. So ridiculously loving. It ties into my longtime yet only sometimes hc of the red trait actually being love and him n sans n Undyne having been augmented w/ it, or literally created w/ it. But also the struggles w/ not being allo conflicting with it, so him really struggling to understand his own relationship with romance and sexuality, but once it clicks, once he finally feels comfortable opening himself up to those feelings, once he feels safe to do that with someone else, he’s just absolutely over the top head over heels for them.
This was supposed to be about sex but I got carried away. anyway. I love to imagine him as being a very passionate and affectionate lover, regardless of role or position or intensity of the session, because like, it really is an act of love for him, a physical expression of his feelings, how much he loves and how safe he feels, the closeness being so so so important to him, trying to be mindful and attentive but also struggling to not just wholly lose himself to it.
I personally like to hc Intent as being a sort of literal force monsters can pick up on, but frankly I feel like even if it wasn't his partner would still be able to feel the adoration and excitement and love just bleeding off of him.
It's also a little like the whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder" thing, where he spent so much of his life repressing his desires for compassion, for companionship, a place he could let himself be vulnerable, someone who could be just as vulnerable with him, that once there's finally a crack in the dam, the whole thing comes crumbling down.
Another thing, because I'm still ruminating on this
I'd made an aside in the tags about how this isn't strictly speaking healthy, but I wanted to expound on that a little. I've mentioned on my main blog a number of times now, about how I hc the Papyri by their very natures tend to be reflective of the world/people around them.
Edge's whole issue with this is compounded by his responsibility complex and self-dehumanization (for lack of a better term). He, essentially, entirely lives for others, with no real self awareness of this or why that's Not So Good. He dedicates himself to whatever he believes makes the best use of him, his time, his abilities, to help others, as was his intended purpose upon creation.
This also, rather unfortunately, clashes wildly with his nature as a monster, who are more dependent on...emotional well being, I'll say. But given he’s a bit more sturdy than the average monster, he doesn't believe this true about himself. He doesn't need what other monsters need, or as much as they need it. The less he takes in return for what he gives the better.
But then enter: love. And I don't just mean romance, I mean love. Yes he and Sans care about each other, yes he and Undyne are deeply loyal to one another, but there's something wildly different about boldfaced, honest love that is really truly very bewildering to him. Being somewhat...introduced to that kind of love with Frisk was jarring, and it cut a wound he didn't even realize.
The thing is, he craves closeness and openness, desperately, but those things just don't exist in their underground, not anymore, so especially if his relationships with others start to improve post-Frisk, it just pulls that tear wider. Because he still keeps trying to give without taking.
Alright, they're more receptive to his mother henning, cool, great. Alright, they're badgering him to take breaks more often, well, he can still probably squeeze something else productive in the meantime. Alright, they're taking better care of themselves so he can focus more on work, great! Awesome!
Depending on how things play out, this can really leave him scrambling, trying desperately to "keep control" over himself. It wouldn't seem particularly chaotic, and it likely wouldn't happen too quickly, but he would absolutely deteriorate if left to his own devices. If no one intervened.
Now imagine throwing romantic feelings into that mess.
If it happened prior to Frisk, it would likely take much longer for anything to really culminate. He likely wouldn't even recognize or understand those feelings, equate them to his feelings for Undyne or what have you. After Frisk, post surfacing, it may happen more quickly, but likely no easier.
It's a challenge and a half for him to even accept that he’s developing feelings like that, even if everything's clean cut and lovely, someone charms him, pursues him or returns his feelings, because despite prioritizing someone else, as is a-ok in his book, he’s also prioritizing himself, since it's not just for their sake, but his as well.
It's frivolous, it's self indulgent, but at the same time, it's the only thing that reaches that gash he tries so desperately hard to ignore. The closer they get, the safer he feels, the more that wound closes and it's addicting. Maybe he’s convinced himself he doesn't need it but oh, he wants it. He wants it so desperately.
It's so terrifying, the thought of giving someone that kind of power over him, but at some point, depending on how desperate he is and how bad the wounds gotten by then, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. The reward far outweighs the risk and he can finally be swayed to acquiesce to the whims of his heart. But even just getting to that point, he has to have fallen so deeply, so completely in love, that this person has become elevated to a status previously unthinkable to him.
At this point, he would do anything for them, even molding himself to suit, if need be. Whatever they want or need, he's now convinced himself it's his top priority. He doesn't entirely forgo his other responsibilities, of course not, but it's a deadly combo, both the imposition and the desire.
That's what I mean, about the obsession and devotion and love and utter submission all mix and blur. If he were with someone who could balance it well, it would likely be manageable, but if he were with someone who couldn't, it could sway in either direction. Obviously the heartbreak route would be significantly worse, but if they were just as unwell about him (if they matched each others freak), well, it might still be fine, or it might be catastrophically bad for them and anyone else involved ha

I think prior to character development, he'd think he should expect a partner equally as great as him (or """as close as anyone could get""" anyways), someone competent, smart, strong, attractive... But really what he'd want, even if he couldn't admit it, is someone who makes him feel safe. Someone gentle, maybe patient, but not afraid to correct him when he needs it.

Clover is a surprise guy, but in a very good way. Once he comes to know someone better, he’s usually pretty in tune with them and their energy. So he does a lot of check ins, or offers to listen, and he always seems to know what to say or do to help or comfort.
He’s very in sync, which also makes him an expert gift giver, but the biggest sign of how much someone means to him is if he makes something for them. Even just something little, like a silly little doodle on a notecard or an origami animal. He makes things special in his own ways, so while he might not say it with his words very often, or have the energy for bigger gestures, he does a lot of little things to show his appreciation for someone.
I am so deeply unwell about size difference. I don't even know what else to say. It just makes me insane. When they "hold hands" but one of their hands just engulfs the other's. When they snuggle and the larger partner has to be mindful not to suffocate the smaller partner. When they can shape shift so they can be small and accommodating, or perhaps even smaller still, thusly turning the tables...
I really and truly did originally make all of the Fell monsters larger than Tale monsters just bc I love big scary monsters but I just couldn't resist giving Papyrus the, ironically, shortest end of the stick by making him Taller Still because there is something so insanely important to me about Big Scary Intimidating character who is actually a massive, touchstarved softy who neeeds cuddles or else they will die forever immediately when they're truly comfortable with someone
This started off a mostly Tenna related post and somehow swerved into Underfell Papyrus so quickly. Okay. Girl can you leave me alone for like five minutes. Please.
