listen. in the original concept album version of "one night in bangkok," freddie is not participating in the nightlife. he is actively looking down on it. the entire song is him listing everything bangkok has to offer from his bigoted tourist point of view (the bars, the massage parlors, the "gods that could be she") and dismisses all of it. he's not interested. he finds it disgusting, or boring, or beneath him. the chess board is right there. that's all he cares about.
