Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who won an Academy Award for the 2007 film “Once,” died in a motorcycle crash on the outskirts of Dublin early Wednesday, his management said. He was 56 💔

He died in a motorcycle crash in the Lucan aerea on the outskirts of Dublin. Without naming him, Irish police said he was treated at the scene for his injuries but died a short time later. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 29th July 2026.

Frontman of chart-topping band the Frames had huge success as the star of 2007 romantic drama Once. The film's breakout duet, “Falling Slowly,” won them the Oscar for best original song at the 80th Academy Awards. A Broadway adaptation of the film later won eight Tonys, including best musical.

A modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story.
