gonna have a new genre of photography to throw into the mix here with this lovely minolta srt super (102 for the US).

notes: - i said you'd see more of these reeds. they give so much character to this shot, love that they bend in the direction the bird is looking in.

notes: - a local, threatened species. - was on a walk with my family to see the sunset after a sibling's birthday dinner and we walked through a small preserve for this species. - the trail had a self-locking door that apparently locks after the sun sets, so i was very stressed out about my family, who took their time to return. missed some cool shots of the gnatcatcher snagging these big ol' beetles outta the air, but i was very happy with this silhouette that had one and their prey (moments later) in frame.

note: - one of my favorite photographs. - there's a lot of details in this shot which may make it kinda busy, but the fence, spots of moss and greenery in the rocks, concrete, barnacles (white near the plumage), mussels (black near the wicked black legs), dark water surface... it just feels like a feast for the eyes. and then there's the actual subject with its stark shrek-green face and the piercing yellow eyes/beaks, with the slippery silver fish.

note: - i love the blurry pine tree foreground in this shot. would love to do more things like that.

note: - one of my favorite photographs. - i'm a huge sucker for house finches. it's the first bird i ever photographed, and seeing that red up close in great detail really woke me up to what amazing details i've missed throughout the years with casual bird observation.

note: - have you ever seen a century plant? they make for spectacular poses. - (1) the shot has problems—it's far away, i'm shooting through a chain-link fence (squint! you can sorta make out the diamonds); but i love the composition—it feels as though the heron is presiding over the cumulonimbus in the distance. just good vibes. - (2) while the heron's back is to us, obscuring the iconic silhouette, i still think the way the head/neck branch from the body compliments the curved branches of the century plant in a pleasing way.

note: - you'll probably see a lot of these reeds from april-august, they make for incredible shots and beautiful bokeh.

note: - surprise! - a cute couple of bewick's were nesting in a bag of fertilizer on the side of the house but unfortunately got spooked by something and had to abandon the eggs...

note: - one of my favorite photographs. - the bird can get lost in all the detail, but since the details are these complimentary yellow flowers with spots of deep green and brown i just really dig it—flower and bird alike are looking to the sun, and that's just neat.
